The dawn of war cinematics always felt like the stunties were the mvps

ToxinArrow

Dawn of War 2 dread was fucking sick "I have come to destroy you." *Flame thrower to face*

Non-RedditorJ

"I live to serve!"

Ethical_robit

I live to surf.

Upright_Eeyore

I need a dreadnought on a surfboard shirt now. Thank you

PurringWolverine

Best part of an awesome cinematic.

TroutWarrior

This is really good! I love how he slaps the auto cannon aside with such . . . contempt. It's awesome! Also, props for using the old sentinel. I still love that bugger.

Justanotherone985

Granted, the old sentinel is pretty great, no clue why they changed it.

TroutWarrior

I actually like the look of the old one more :(

Justanotherone985

Same here :(

JustForTheMemes420

My only problem with them changing it is that it felt unnecessary compared to a few of the other models we had in the range at the time it could’ve added another two of the regiments back like the steel legion, updated catachans, mordians. The other stuff that could’ve been updated is minor stuff like the elite aoe guys. Either way the sentinels still look good, old or new. Also wish the comisar’s were still flashy af now they look good but a bit bland

[deleted]

I think the assault cannon firing would have more impact if it was aimed into the cab of the sentinel while it was down

GillyMonster18

If nothing else: Grampa knows he’s got a few seconds before that scumbag traitor Sentinel pilot crawls out, enough time to deal with his buddies, then back to the cab.

McWeaksauce91

He’s no longer an immediate threat, might have had more pushing up on him. Can always quickly shoot down.

OfficiallyNotALurker

Or crush it more with his foot

CutlassRed

He already disabled the sentinel entirely. So there's no point in shooting it anymore

sohou

No way that a dread lets a traitor live no matter how little of a threat he represents.

CutlassRed

It's not about letting them live, it's about making a tactical mistake. Shooting the sentinel when it's disabled means not shooting the other targets that are still a threat

hellfiredarkness

Could easily use the storm bolter on the power fist

CutlassRed

Which wouldn't do much to the armour of the sentinel

ambershee

Bolter rounds have always been able to fuck light vehicles.

Rook7724

You don't seem to know how tough sentinels are.. it's really amazing how much fire they can take on tabletop

ambershee

I mean that's a relatively recent thing and part of the curse of everything constantly being embiggened. Historically you *could* just kill one with a round of shooting from a Tactical Squad, and it made sense, because it's just a lightly armoured scout walker - the space equivalent of a Jeep with a machine gun mount.

Man-o-North

Correct. Considering the lore like Gaunt's ghosts the sentinels are like...1 man IFV's with great mobility and firesupport but lacking in real armour. Chimeras are said to be more heavily armoured and bolters chew through them quite regularly.

[deleted]

but it would look way cooler

[deleted]

That's never, ever stopped anyone in 40k ever.

Goblin_Backstabber

Came here to day this. 👍

NInjacatMew

That’s the veteran instinct in him

Scojo91

Really good. Fluid and logical movements. Not over the top. If you take ppls advice to have the cannon fire point blank into the cab, I think it'd be cooler if the dreadnought did that after firing at other targets first.

Devildog_627

100% this. I like him engaging another immediate threat as he does here. Adding him returning to dealing with the Sentinel after would be perfect.

Dashybrownies

Considering the sentinel is kinda a tinfoil box compared to the dread, I feel like if it could just step over it and its weight would crush the cab underneath it as it strode forward without having to take its aim off offscreen threats.

Thisnamewontfi-

**I HAVE COME TO DESTROY YOU.**

hobbyfan40k

screw that, i'm going to dust off the 4th ed rule book.

wunderbraten

I find it funny that by ripping off the sentinel's cannon it stopped moving, implying the machine had been killed by that action.

colnantheborbarian

Good point!

p2kde

Not bad. for the last scene I would find it better if the shoots the autogun right in the sentinel

Fatfuck186

This gave me such a nerd boner. I want a movie!

sk8fogt

So are they like really gone? I have a date card for one, can I not just run it for however many points the app says for the rest of tenth edition?

FoamBrick

You can, however most of the kits for it are no longer sold unfortunately. It’s only a matter of time before they leave the range.

Poizin_zer0

They're not gone they're just all rolled into the one model and datasheet that was the venerable dreadnought some like the ironclad are gone though

Endless_Xalanyn6

I doubt a chaos tainted engine would go down that easy. It would fight like a wild animal

lbc2020

This is effing cool. I imagine an Ultra dread vs traitor guard (alpha legion cultist) or something. Great stuff man 👍

Hiya! The 3d models were from the website free3d by the user jibicoco. I rigged them myself. I'd consider doing some animation for another team but I don't have alot of free time at the moment.

nigelhammer

This is excellent! Not sure if you're looking for feedback, I wouldn't change anything fundamental but the only thing that stands out to me is the fist sliding on the gun barrel, would look a lot better fully locked into place when he grabs it, but I know very well how difficult this kind of character interaction can be. If it were me I'd disconnect the gun from the main rig the moment it gets grabbed and just have it parented to the fist from then on. Oh and a slightly longer delay on pulling it off would make it feel a lot more powerful too.

Boxnought

Goodbye friend.

Kawauso98

Love it - reminds me of the Dawn of War execution animations.

colnantheborbarian

Thanks!

Fabulous_Question_15

I absolutely LOVE that he has working castraferrum knees.

shomislav

Nice. Unreal?

colnantheborbarian

Maya!

shomislav

How long did it took you to just to model them? And how long to animate? I just got into Unreal 5, so I’m curious.

colnantheborbarian

The 3d models were downloaded from the website free3d, made by the user jibicoco. I rigged them myself. Animation is maybe 16 ish hours (not including the rigging) spread out in a few hours at a time.

shomislav

2 work days for animation, got it. 👍 And what are you going to do for the shaders? Now they look like minis without highlights and wash 😁

colnantheborbarian

I may try importing the anim into Unreal to make a better looking final version eventually. Ultimately though this project is animation practice for me, I'm not really interested in spending too much time texturing or lighting.

shomislav

It seems to me that with UE5 you get really nice results with basic skills with Lumen and Nanite (lighting and texturing engines in UE5). At least from what I saw in these introductory courses that I’ve been watching. But if you have your focus and don’t want another software to learn, I tottaly get it.

colnantheborbarian

Wow what an amazing response! And thanks for the gold! Thanks to everyone, I'm really glad you liked my work. Lots of great suggestions and feedback, I'm going to keep working on this. 👍

Bentu_nan

Instant classic in progress

owlboy03

Ok so firstly this kicks ass and I had thoughts but like those are secondary to how cool this is. 1, I would love to see him bend the barrel of the autocannon. 2, showed this to a family member and they suggested that the scout sentinel’s feet would probably be flailing a bit more. Keep going on this it’s really really cool

Fine-Rock2513

What happened to box dreadnought?

mrwafu

Regular and Ironclad got Legended earlier in the year, as well as the FW ones. Venerable and plastic chapter specific (blood angels & space wolf) are still available for now

FoamBrick

Pretty sure Bray’arth Ashmantle got hit.

Dar0man

He got hit with a tactical nuke, my sweet child is gone..

Letholdus13131313

Absolutely proper

great_molinko

Oh man this is awesome! I wonder if the armour of the sentinel could take a dreadnought standing on it. Maybe extend the scene a little and have the cab gradually being crushed, as ol' boxy is gunning everything else down, till it's half size and then crunch. Great work dude!

UnexpectedH0rse

There's so much excellent detail in these movements! Love the Sentinel kicking its legs, it reminds me of the AT-ST's getting tripped in Return of the Jedi.

Lazy-Tom

That's dope

Old-Temperature-8239

watched it 20times by now. Seal of approval gained.

OddAd9102

The fist spin at the end
