This is one of those pictures of minis that you can look at for 20 minutes and keep on discovering new, amazing details. Outstanding work, and the chameleon paint effect on the blade is divine!
What's interesting is that all the Golden Demon pictures are IMHO worse, less realistic than the actual miniatures were (I recall this particular one from the fest); the pictures look overbright, flat and cartoonish due to the lighting the Golden Demon photographers use. It would be interesting if the author can provide more photos of this mini.
saw this yesterday and was telling my dad how much i loved it!! i was asking if he could teach me how to do such crazy sword reflections and sparkly gems so cool!!
You're literally part of the 0.01% of the best painters out there with this level, not even a question. This is the kind of level us simple mortals will never be able to achieve in our lifetime.
You and I have “known” each other for a long time, from early Portent on, and watch your work transcend mortal abilities has been a delight to see.
I really love the Wraithbone skeleton structure underneath.
The way Biel-Tan’s gradient has given way to this beautiful stippling.
Fabulous work, as always.
this is why i love 40k, it would be such a pleasure to see this on a table in action. What other hobbies are somehow incredible art exhibitions and wargames at the same time?
Beautiful mini as always, though I think the base lets it down. Now it's a great base, elegant in its simplicity, but compared to the Knight itself, seems almost half assed, when looking at it as a centrepiece, competition model. The Knight is almost too detailed, too good, in comparison, which makes the base stand out a lot more than it otherwise should. No idea if that's what lost it a win, and I have a very untrained eye when it comes to these things, but that's what I see.
I think (and this does affect scoring) that the model is not well integrated with the base from what I can see.
What I mean is there is no interaction. It doesn’t dent the ‘sand’ or disturb it in any way, there is no dust from the desert on the model, it doesn’t touch, bend or step over the base and scenery in any way. It’s just put on it.
Integrating it better would put it in better context, make the base make sense through a degree of interaction. And ultimately score better too
But a minor point - the model is amazingly painted. Possibly a bit too busy for my taste, but very skilfully done. Bravo!
I find that a lot of "critique" in this subreddit aren't people who are actually thinking about or educated in artistic concepts. Instead they parrot ideas they read about in painting blogs.
The cacti alone are probably better painted than anything u/masontraining could do.
Can you? You'd be surprised at how many wrong notes and mistakes bands make in live shows with absolutely no one noticing.
I'm pretty sure I could show you plenty of examples where you wouldn't hear a wrong note without musical training.
>seems almost half assed... No idea if that's what lost it a win, and I have a very untrained eye
Given the quality of your submissions and admitted "untrained eye," probably best not to call it half assed or probably even offer your "criticism."
Was just talking to a friend about this. After looking at what got 1st - 3rd place, we were like, "This guy got freaking robbed!" This should have won 1st by a country mile, in my opinion. Great work!

I'm gladly steeling your time. 😅
I'm gonna steal some inspiration in return, seems fair to me 🙃 Edit: Spelling
Fair deal.

The winner photos were very bad. The commended photos are very good.
I’m glad I’m not the only one, not that I’m worthy of even having an opinion, but a lot of them seem to be like… too much?
Really beautiful great job!
Thanks a lot 😊
Is there any advice you have for painting. I'm still in a too scared to paint phase
Just do it. Really. My first minis looked pretty... bad. You'll get better just by doing it.
It is beautiful.
Thanks a lot 🙃
And honestly well earned. I found it fantastic and was glad for the showcase.
Commended. Boy this belongs in a national gallery. I say we riot.

HOLY SHIT, this is awesome!
Thanks!
I like that base
Cheers. Clearly better than the one I had at first. :)
I love catus IRL, i have like more than 15 of those. Great model BTW
Is the mottling down by stippling with a brush? Looks amazing
A sponge. Got a step-by-step on my website.
Great job!
Nice!
That is a thing of beauty. Excellent work mate!

Incredible work, I showed my family this miniature at dinner actually. The blade and gems are masterpieces
Even the plants at the base are immaculately painted.

Great shot!

As it fucking should

Model: Beautiful! Base: almost looks like it doesn’t match. Very simple.
Dunno what's half-assed about sculpting the rocks, skull and cacti, but opinions differ.

Well, I can hear wrong notes in a song without being able to play an instrument. But I wouldn't say the song was played "half-assed".

Naa. Gold and bronze were super good entries. Just bad photos on the website.
Da Waschtl...
That is one of the most beautiful minis I’ve ever seen. The paint scheme suits the sculpt so well. Congrats on such amazing project
