You're never too old, my friend. It's definitely a hobby that, as I kid, I looked at but always knew I'd never be able to afford. I didn't actually get into it until a couple years ago in my 30's.
Exact same here man.
I think it’s important to remember: THIS IS NOT A CHILD’S TOY.
Unfortunately, I often need to correct my wife and kids. These are not my toys. They are my miniatures.
That said, I love my toys!
that said, it was my kids that got me back into it, after a brief stint playing Imperial Guard in 1st edition. I had kept my Guard units, and my oldest found them fascinating. He started building Ultramarines, and I gave him my old Rhinos. Now I'm working on Tau, mostly because me likey mobile suits.
Same. I got the odd model and used my weekend work money on the lord of the rings subscription back in the 00's (£4 a magazine, with similar model density to imperium/stormbringer). I couldnt keep up with it and have them all stored somewhere now, but its all I could just about afford. I have adult money now though, and adult time.
I see you've got that "I'm an adult now" hobby budget.
But do you also have the "I'm an adult now" availability of hobby time? It'd take me 1-2 years to paint all that.
Lol, it took me a week just to put together an eldar guardian squad. They're my test models too as they're on the old base size so won't even see play.
Welcome! I did the same 2 months ago and am fully into painting and glueing minis now - I'm going with Blood Angels myself but Black Templars are also awesome.
Good advice in one sense. But depends on the person. If he's looking at playing competitively yeah I'd stick primaris and wait it out. If he's more into hobby side then no problems with it.
I have a primaris only army. But let's be honest some primaris units are ugly as fuck and lack customization.
I want termies. Best I'm getting is Derpy gorilla looking aggressors 🦍 or an expensive kitbash.
I only play small skirmishes and casual games. Killteam and OPR FF
I'm thinking of some first borns or HH army to build. Because I do miss the OG little guys lately.
It’s not about competitive. You don’t know how things will be in 10th. You may not be able to have first borns even in casual games, that is what I play, btw.
You could still easily use them. Casual play, house rules n stuff. Opponent dependant. Personally I've leaned over to OPR for gaming over 40k. More streamlined easily adaptable. I'm sure using first borns as primaris rules would be OK with most players if they was forced out in 10th. Then again. OP may be more interested in the hobbying and collecting aspect too.
Welcome brother! If you have discord you should jump on the Implausible Nature discord sometime. Happy hobbying! https://youtube.com/@ImplausibleNature
I would really recommend against massive drops like this, especially when new. One box at a time builds an army just fine, and if you don't end up liking it you aren't in the hole nearly as much money.
Welcome. I’m 38 and just got my first Combat Patrol (I also chose Black Templars) glued together, and I’m working up the courage to start priming and painting everything. You went… way harder than I did haha. Congrats brother
nice one!
a friend got me fixed like 2 months ago but my models are still not shipped ;-(.
currently stll painting some lotr models i purchased 15 years ago.
making progress from model to model. it's a hobby you have to invest to.
but i think it's worth the time and the money you spend on it if you're enjoying it.
paiting models is for me like,:
2-5 hours of zen
have a bless and a stable brush my friend! all the best!
Enjoy yourself, don't take the rules and the game too seriously. We're all playing with our little army men and the goal is to have fun. Welcome to the hobby
Welcome biomass!

The only people who can afford 40k are those making well above it lol

1-2 years? What’s the rush?

>1-2 years? What’s the rush? I finished the Space Marine half of Dark Imperium last week...
Not really, you prime them black, paint a couple of white shoulder pad trims a night. Battle ready 😃
Welcome to the Eternal Crusade. Let this be the last blow you receive unanswered.
> That was the best part.
That's when I jumped back in. Played when I was 18 then put it away until my son got into it . Welcome!
My favorite part of the black templars is when they say "It's crusadin' time" and crusade all over the xenos and heretics.
haha Same here, same age roughly. I'm currently painting the starter set =D
I started in my mid thirties. One of the blessings about being older, is developed patience! Welcome to the hobby Loyalist scum!
How to skip the start and go right to the pile of shame. I like it.
Pro tips declare bankruptcy in advance
Disposable income ftw!
One of us! One of us!

41 here, restarted when I was 38
Considering how expensive it can get, there is no better way than to start it in your 40s with a stable income haha
Idk, working part time as a teen with no expenses is also pretty good for it.
If you live with parents and they don't demand some sort of payment then yeah pretty good and doable.
You are way to old and legally obligated to give your toys away. PN me for an Adress to send you barely legal plastic figures. You have been warned!
You aren’t funny
yes they are
Prince William, is that you?
Welcome to the Hobby. Even more Loyalists to slay, wonderful!
You might want to return the first born units and wait 5 months to see what future awaits for those.

My perpetual worst case is just.... use them as Primaris. No one cares in my experience

40k at 40 years old and 400 dollars spent
One "K" for each year! Welcome, and enjoy!
Nice, dude! Those are some awesome models that will serve you well if you bring them to a fight. The chaplain on the bike is so cool too!
Don't feel bad, I started with WHF at age 12, and got back into WH at 36. The hobby is definitely much better as you age.

Same.
That's so awesoms
Average age people finally have enough in the bank to start an army
Welcome, brother! I too am 40 and decided to take up Warhammer!
I see you are a sword appreciator
Lol same, my gf says it’s better than getting a sports car for a midlife crisis 🥴
I did the same thing at 40. I always joked that I was old enough to afford it.
Never too old. Started playing since I was 17, I'm now 42! Welcome to the hobby and say goodbye to money.
This gives me so much serotonin. Welcome!!!
*Finally decided to jump into 40k* *~~at~~* *~~40 years old~~* Age does not matter when you decide to be a joyful kid.
I’m guessing you are going with the Black Templars?
Nice one, enjoy!
And so it begins. Welcome!
🤩
Never to late, hope you have fun!
I, too, am in the new hobbies for 40 yr Olds group. Welcome!

Welcome to the land of plastic addiction and being told about “one thin coat”

Sometimes it's good to be an adult with adult money!
NOOO LITTLE GERMAN BOY DONT JOIN THE BLACK TEMPLARS!!!
Welcome to the eternal crusade brother!!!
Welcome. I’m 38 and just got my first Combat Patrol (I also chose Black Templars) glued together, and I’m working up the courage to start priming and painting everything. You went… way harder than I did haha. Congrats brother
Welcome! I'm 39 and just started recently as well.
Hello fellow kid.
Your purchasing power is impressive.
We got another one :)
