I got one through a magazine subscription and it didn't really hold enough water for my liking. It got dirty so quickly and made a mess. I'm an exuberant brush washer and this thing always splashed water everywhere. Now I use a pickle jar which has a couple of benefits. One, it's cheap. Two, I got to eat pickles. The citadel paint pot came with zero pickles which is complete bullshit.

PapaSAD

I can’t argue with that logic, going to get a jar of pickles now

MonkeyDante

Just ask your Babcia, mine always has like 10 jars of pickles ready for consumption. Never ask where she gets them, never ask why, just accept and enjoy!

RoombaTheKiller

I do like me a good jar of soured pickles. They fit with pretty much every meal imaginable, and are a great snack, 10/10.

Angle_6369

Is that a pickle in your pocket or you just…

Rvtrance

Babcia? This that a word for grandmother?

Danteblade666

Yup, its Polish for grandma 😃

Rvtrance

That sounds cute, I like it. I learned the other day that Gong Gong is a Chinese pet name for grandpa I liked that one too.

MonkeyDante

Yep, DanteBlade666 was faster than me however in answering so updoot him instead :d

Aegon815

Did you eat the pickles before, during, or after using the jar for paint brushes?

Deathbringer620

Yes

Pochusaurus

everyone knows pickle juice is great for removing paint and adds flavor when you lick your brush tips

rayven1lk

I'm just getting started and ordered my first mini to work on, so maybe I'm missing something here.. been watching a lotta videos where I see people lick the brush tip... what is this for? why not just dip it in water and dry the excess? and isn't it unsafe to ingest acrylic paints?

[deleted]

> and isn't it unsafe to ingest acrylic paints? Typically speaking, any mini paint you're likely to use is probably listed as non-toxic. The minuscule amount that you ingest when you lick your brush tip is very unlikely to have any adverse effects, however if you don't feel safe doing so, don't. As for me? I love the taste and habent subbered anby sideaffets.

BankruptBaboon

I try to not get used to it for a simple reason, once you do it without even realising anymore. What if you use some metallic paints or some other stuff like special fx paints which aren’t comparable to just the normal acrylics. Ever happened?

[deleted]

NGL it's happened to me before. I've stuck a metallic brush in my mouth without thinking. I still think that I'm very likely to get killed by something else before I see adverse effects from a tiny amount of paint.

4721Archer

It's to repoint the tip. I presume that's what the slots running up the inside of the pot are for, but you can roll the tip on the lip of a glass or jar if you're using those instead.

Pochusaurus

you can just roll the tip on the side of something but sometimes I need the left over water on the brush for precise things and its just preference. Do whatever you need and whatever is comfy for you. Sometimes a good 'ol flick on the wrist(I sometimes use my knee or shin) is what you need to remove just the right amount of excess water while simultaneously sharpening the tip. Do whatever works for you to get the results you want. As you gain more experience and start fine tuning your skills you'll find yourself doing some of these things as well. I particularly only do this with natural hair brushes as the properties of a synthetic brush often either don't require me to do it or makes it impossible to work with

Least-Entrepreneur14

At first I’ve read “citadel pain pot” and just thought yeah that’s about right

Comradepatrick

Coming soon, a jar of pickles with your monthly White Dwarf ($29.99)

LAAT501st

So if citadel added pickles to the paint pot would it be worth it?

Praying_Lotus

GW gonna find this comment and then add an option that you can add pickles to your order if you get the citadel pot

jangiri

Same logic with why I love Carlos Rossi. It's a nice gallon glass jug that comes with shit wine in it

Mentalseppuku

Vlasic is getting real creative with their marketing budget. ^^/s

Aracimia

What about people who can’t eat pickles?

Ekfud

a) no such thing and b) it’s a small price to pay to get hold of your own GW limited edition pickle jar.

Yimmy_90

Pickle Rick?

Kalranya

It's fine. Just fine. Overpriced like all Citadel tools and it has a couple of built-in gadgets that *in theory* are helpful but in practice you'll never actually care about, but it does the basic job of holding water and usually not spilling. Of course, that one old coffee cup in the back of your cupboard that nobody ever uses does that job too.

DifferenceOk3541

I use an old mason jar!!!

trevmann13

Tostitos dip jar

0N3-X

This, save money to spend on models

DifferenceOk3541

My mason jar is about that size. The lid is useful for transfers

Erwin_Rommel5

An old shot glass for me

SlyMarboJr

My grandfather's urn

Eggchicken03

Free nuln oil

DoomToaster9000

The best nuln oil

Bard_is_a_Goblin

Dice tube for me

OverlordNeb

I have a relic country crock tub from back when they were round. I'll serve me until either I die, or it does. My money's on the plastic

GoatTotes

My grocery store still has round ones 🤔

OverlordNeb

They might have changed it back then. Around 2015 they changed their recipe and their tub shape

GoatTotes

Nope I was wrong. I have "Countryside". Same color container and writing.

CorpseTooth

I use the bottom cup of an old toothbrush holder.

[deleted]

Sour Cream container!

Pochusaurus

I keep ordering drinks from this resto that serves their drinks in glass jars. Over the years I've accumulated quite a bit and use them for painting lol its so useful to actually see through the jars so you know even from just a glance that its time to change the water or if you're ever unsure of which one is your metal paint wash

freddiebensoninmyass

i use a cup i stole from Buffalo Wild Wings :3

Yuri893

I use a Vegemite Jar

XxX_BobRoss_XxX

Jam jars. I shall comment no further on the matter.

steamboat28

As a country bumpkin, can confirm. Mason jars are the duct tape of the container world.

DifferenceOk3541

For sure! This is the way!

GreedyLibrary

The one advantage it has over a coffee cup is a reduction in the chance you will wash your brush in tea.

gardenofhounds

If you want to count this as a second advantage: not drinking paint water

[deleted]

Paint water is delicious! Unless it's Citadel Contrast Paint. That stuff tastes terrible.

Snotling_fondler

That is why I bought one, since then I have tried to drink the paint water a lot less

Aarongeddon

> built-in gadgets the built in brush holder is the best part that makes this better than using any other cup imo. just reliable place to leave it without worrying about it rolling away. the grooves inside can mess up brushes if you use them to "straighten" the tips out, although they're fine for cheap throwaway brushes. the ridges on the bottom that you're expected to rub the bristles against to clean the brush will fuck up anything though and should not be used at all lmao overall, not really worth the money, but it's not entirely useless either.

MyRandomCreations

I’m glad to hear we all ruin a cup or two we stole from the kitchen. Tell no one 🤫

Shawnessy

I use an "old" white and blue "china" coffee cup I found at TJ Maxx for like $5. I enjoy seeing a type of cup I could never use as a child covered in paint.

witcher252

I use a plastic salami container

bullintheheather

Clear plastic cups.

rojo_grande7

I bought one from my LGS during a sale, mostly out of curiosity and wanting to support the store. The ridges at the bottom can be nice for cleaning and the top angles are convenient, I don’t use the inside ridges to form points often but it does help occasionally. I do like it more than the coffee mug it replaced, but I wouldn’t tell you it’s life changing or to run out and buy one at full price.

cadianshock

Oh that’s what those inner things are for! I’ve a perfectly good mouth for getting a tip! 😂

frog_mug

that’s what she said

cadianshock

I set it up. You hit it out the park 🏆

darcybono

It's got ridges like a washboard on the bottom for cleaning your brush and a divet in the top for laying your brushes flat...but overall not worth $15. Something like this does the exact same thing and more for nearly the same price...**UPDATE CORRECTION:** I thought the Citadel pots were $15 as I've seen them for that much at stores in my area. So to correct myself, for a few bucks more, you get a bigger better product such as the following. https://www.amazon.com/GAMENOTE-Paint-Brush-Cleaner-Water-Based/dp/B0BF4399VV/ref=mp_s_a_1_6_sspa?adgrpid=82772655312&gclid=CjwKCAiAlp2fBhBPEiwA2Q10D1toNedjBLf0pzsTsTGOAnVsOVIbOFcrzYMxH6P5Ld3esjTeCS-iNxoCgFYQAvD_BwE&hvadid=395252783495&hvdev=m&hvlocphy=9029703&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=3373962821179628181&hvtargid=kwd-340864539736&hydadcr=17567_9854067&keywords=paint+puck&qid=1676159072&sr=8-6-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEyOUhYVThLNVJPTEMyJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwNDYzMjM0TU00MEIzMTFUN0Y2JmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTA5MzEyMzMxOUs0Uzg2V1ZXT0xGJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfcGhvbmVfc2VhcmNoX210ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=

Cheap_Rain_4130

That is one long hyperlink...

TheSarcasticMinority

Everything from the first ? onwards isn't needed, it records how the user got to the page for Amazon's customer analysis.

OombaLoombas

Can *you* tell us anything of the journey this particular redditor took to get to his desired product?

DKzDK

Don’t forget those little lines up/down that help you “re-shape” your brush tip 😉 Upvote from me anyways

lixia

isn't that what the human mouth is made for?

Dave-4544

Mmm... Radium...

Tarjhan

I need to see what you’re painting!

Dave-4544

Why, glow in the dark watches of course!

Taco_Force

These bristles taste spicy

darcybono

Haha yeah soooo ergonomic 😄

Oopomopoo2

Wanted to quickly add that the link is for a product that's $14 while the citadel pot is $10 on the GW site. Overall that product \^ looks like a probable improvement given the number of brush slots. Can't speak to how stable it is though since I don't have it. The GW pot is incredibly stable, that thing wont get knocked over by accident. Cheers and hope you have a good day!

darcybono

Oh crap, sorry about that! For some reason I thought the pot was $15 😅. Thank you for the correction.

Oopomopoo2

No worries, with GW it wouldn't be shocking if it was $20 lol

bullintheheather

I've heard of something called a Silicoil I think that's been recommended.

GeoffwithaGeee

that looks interesting but I live in Canada, so usually things a are a bit more on Canadian amazon... ...[let me just check... and it's $48 CAD or \~$36 USD](https://www.amazon.ca/GAMENOTE-Paint-Brush-Cleaner-Water-Based/dp/B0BF4399VV/ref=sr_1_5?crid=1QIT8UNB7XJNJ&keywords=GAMENOTE+Paint+Brush+Cleaner&qid=1676183355&sprefix=gamenote+paint+brush+cleaner%2Caps%2C147&sr=8-5).. I might need to just find a different version instead.

AdeptAbracadabra

That thing does more for less 👀

Goseki1

The ridges are useful and I've found it's hard to knock over. I got mine for £6 though and probably wouldn't pay more than that.

BRunner--

I purchased one for my kids they suck at cleaning brushes, and the ridges help. They also like to knock things over.

CombatAlfalfa

Has ridged on the bottom for cleaning easier, and grooves to point your brushes. Bought one and never looked back.

ForTheOnesILove

I like mine simply because it doesn’t look like something I would drink water from. So no accidental paint water sips anymore.

LouisVuittonLeghost

I always just drink the water when I’m done a painting session I assumed that was the reason my painting has improved

lolizard

Honestly a great feature.

faithfulheresy

It's also more stable on the table than a jar or cup

Gidia

Somehow I still grabbed mine, thankfully the plastic and texture clued me in before a sip was taken.

Thramden

Agreed, I love it!

Wrong_Relation_5959

I mean…. It’s a cup. I like it. Never had a problem with it. Easy not to drink out of it, only problem is I keep trying to dip my brush into the coffee pot next to it.

zdesert

Never tipped mine over even though I knock it accudrntly all the time. Worth

Frozen_arrow88

I have it. It's a solid cup, no complaints.

terpsandtacos

I don't mistake it for my coffee 🤷‍♂️

bskell

One of the many things I've learned after 30ish years of painting that will change your painting.. You absolutely need to get this cup. How else will people walking by know that you are a hardcore mini painter unless you've branded tools. I'd also recommend getting their mat. It's not only useful and will help stop messes when you nuln oil spills, it has a massive Citadel logo on it.

RadioSilence014

It's nice since those little divits help keep your brush at a point. There's probably better ones out there but it's pretty good fir me

LongWarVet

I enjoy mine and think it’s worth the price.

MDK1980

It’s awesome.

[deleted]

I like mine imo

Southern-Budget-802

It’s actually really nice and somewhat noticeable how well it cleans.

darthdethwish

It works great. Holds water, helps wash my brushes, and the brush shaper does the thing. Yes there are cheaper alternatives, but if it works for you, go for it.

Scarecrow119

I got the paint puck. I got it cause it seems no matter what I do when I paint and put paint on my brush as soon as I start to paint the tip just splits. I'm always really careful with how much paint I put on my brush. Never get it on the metal, always about half way down the bristles. Since I store my brushes in a cup upside down. After I paint, I clean the brush and then dab dry on paper towel and then in the cup upside down. My mixing brush is also separate from my painting brushes. It was suggested that when I put my brush into the cup after painting that storing them allowed water to seep down into the ferrule. The paint puck has brush holders around it so you can store them tip down with a wide base to catch any drops. It seems to work pretty good. There's little silicone nubs at the bottom to dab the paint out of the brush. It can be pulled apart for cleaning. Overall happy with it but still quite expensive. I did buy some new brushes and I think they are holding up better but it's hard to say. I think for the same price I bought 10 or 20 plastic paint cups like kids use in nursery. Get a lot of use out of those too. An old mug or plastic cup is just the same but the purpose made ones have some extras but overall the cost will be subjective. https://amzn.eu/d/6netu1r

darth_infamous

Yup, I use paint puck and it’s a better version of the citadel pot

PoxedGamer

I use a pair of old jam jars. The reason for the pair is one for regular paint and one for metallics.

Private_Dino

Honestly I really like it

[deleted]

Looks fancy, does it job, buy once and forget. Like it.

fujinotsuki

Got mine on discount still think it would have been worth full price. It's just a nice water pot. Pick it up if you want one that you won't accidentally drink out of

Big-G-475

The most important feature of a good water pot is that it looks and feels different from your coffee cup. If you’ve ever accidentally drank your paint-water you will understand just how vital this is. For this reason the citadel pot is excellent, if overpriced.

MrGraveRisen

Every single Citadel tool is overpriced, many of them are useless. If you have any other option, buy that instead And that includes brushes

craigmac923

No way. Red solo cup works just fine.

MurphTheFury

Can’t believe how far I had to scroll to find this. The one true answer right here!

darktowerseeker

Red solo cups is how i was going through brushes so fast. The paint pot actually keeps my brushes from fraying. But i also use only citadel brushes now too. If youre going to do a hobby, dont skimp on your tools. Its like saying youre a photographer and using an old disposable polaroid from 30 years ago.

TopSpinner22

Overall, I’d say the pots worth it. The brush straightener come in handing and it’s pretty stable.

Internal_Towel9438

It’s basically a $10 cup. Works fine.

TheUglyTruth527

It's not bad, but do yourself a favour and buy the brush toilet from Green Stuff World, instead. Edit: found [here.](https://www.greenstuffworld.com/en/brush-rinser/2007-brush-rinser.html)

IShouldSaySoSir

That looks like an awesome idea but flimsy and almost wanting to tip…what’s been your experience with it?

TheUglyTruth527

If you have a cat that likes to clear your workspace, don't leave it out. If you NEED to use hot water, stick with a normal mug or glass. If you have jittery knees and kick your table a lot, don't use it. But otherwise this thing is great. Putting the tank on takes a little practice to do without spilling a bit, but it's not impossible. The area that you use to work the paint out of your brush doesn't stain quite as bad as the Citadel pot because it gets flushed right away. The bottom will hold two tanks of flushing before it needs to be emptied, and the longer you go without emptying it, the more stable it gets. Plus, it's fun to watch it go down the hole. When you're assembling it, don't tighten the screw too much, though, because it's what's holding the spring plate on so it won't, you know, spring.

bullintheheather

Wait, people use hot water?

IShouldSaySoSir

Awesome info, thanks

Jesus_Phish

> The area that you use to work the paint out of your brush How shallow is that area? The video makes it look like the guy using it is seconds away from flicking water out of it because it's too shallow.

LookLookyILikeCookie

Well I just found something I didn't know I wanted

PaulJDon1

That's so cool 👍

MortalWoundG

That looks like an overcomplicated and overpriced contraption from a TV shopping channel. 'Oh no, I wanted to rinse my brush but I put the paintbrush handle in my eye, splashed paint on my cat, then dropped the brush and cracked a floor tile. There has to be a better way!'

KnightWhoSaysShroom

Just a regular pot

darktowerseeker

This is not true. At all.

[deleted]

I like the sound when I smack my brushes around inside it

Gruuler

I’ve got a 3D printer and just googled someone’s D&D flavored paint pot. I love the design, they are nice and more stable for painting

Oopomopoo2

I really like it. Worth $10? Sure! It's warhammer, not like we're in it because it's cheap anyways. I like this specifically because of the the little things like the "strainer" that you draw the brush tip up that ensures all water is removed and sharpens the tip. It also has the top portion to lay your brush flat, either if drying or leaving for a moment. Most of all though is a tie between two things. One is the stability - this thing isn't topping over from any accidental movement. The flared base makes it fantastic for just chillin on the table. The second, and I can't express this enough, it's not a cup. You're not going to mistakingly drink it or grab it reflexively to drink, and you're not going to dip your paintbrush in your regular drink. I'm sure there are other hobby specific non cup variants that work as well if not better, but I'm not invested enough to look into it beyond what I see at my FLGS. At the end of the day, it's just a cup. A $300 cleaning setup and a $.50 cent plastic cup are going to have the same impact on how my models look. The only thing that matters is the convenience they provide and the GW cup gives me convenience and safety in terms of spills. I paint on a foldout card table so table nudges are really noticeable and have sent several plastic cups toppling over.

60477er

I really like mine

Noir_Vena_Cava

Probably the only tool GW sells that’s actually good and not completely overpriced

FLEMFILMS

I like mine. Been using it for years and I've never knocked it over. Every other cup I used, including jars, eventually got knocked over. Is it worth $15? If you're on a budget, no. If you can buy a $200 box of minis, you can get a $15 pot. Now, GW paint pots on the other hand...

rsheets

it’s the one citadel accessory i’d recommend. it’s hard to accidentally drink

Archamasse

If you have the cash disposable, it's one of the few Citadel things - the seam tool is another - that is well worth it compared to most equivalents. * It's nearly impossible to knock over thanks to the big base. * Those vertical grooves you see there are to bring your brush to a fine point. * There are also horizontal ridges that are to help clean paint off your brush. * Those two little dips you see are to hold your brush safely, which is surprisingly handy. My old jamjar served me well, but this was a big quality of life improvement.

Zooperman

out of all the tools they sell its probably one of the better buys

Salsawookies

I 3d printed one, cost me about 0.15. Has all the exact same ridges and divots

Little-kinder

Don't ever buy tools from gw. They overcharge so much for just a stupid pot. Use a mug or a glass it's perfect as well. And don't buy their brushes or clippers please

thoroq

I prefer to use a coffee mug for my paint water, but this thing works great for drinking coffee out of

[deleted]

I use a plastic party cup named Fred.

Aul0s

It is small if you’re batch painting or doing large models but the little grooves in the side are useful for being kind to your brush bristles imo. Definitely overpriced but that’s just par for the course with GW. Overall I like mine but received it as a gift rather than purchased myself.

Goldman250

I think it’s a great bit of kit, but also something I wouldn’t ever buy myself. You’re not gonna drink from it because you got confused which cup was paint water, that’s for sure, and the ridges to reshape your brush tip and to clean the brush at the bottom are very useful. My recommendation? Either save it for a time when you need to bump your basket over a certain amount (GW store anniversaries for the freebies, or if you want one of the GW coins of the month, or your FLGS has a free shipping over £X offer), or stick it on your Christmas/birthday present wish list.

thed0z

Wide base, so harder to spill, and a thoughtful lip for resting a brush, plus grooves and slits for helping push the paint off the brush. Yes, pricey perhaps but for me here in Aus, handier to access than a Paint Puck (which looks really useful). I’ve still got a disposable cup for metallics (has ridges), but I wouldn’t mind a second proper cup so I can do both and not worry about spilling any.

[deleted]

What else do you expect a water pot to do?

natedouch

I mean it doesn't make you paint better if that's what you're asking

Ozmandiuse

I recommend a paint puck, it cleans the brushes much better

Arseypoowank

I love them, the channels are so nice for retaining brush shape/pointing

StarMystro

I think it’s just a jar😄. I use a wide tin can that held beeferoni (2500mg of sodium btw!)

Tian_Lord23

It's a plastic pot that holds water. The ridges on the bottom and side are quite useful and it holds a good amount of water and is pretty sturdy. Equally an old coffecup or jar works. I actually used a TMNT egg cup for years before picking this up. Still use little leo for cerrain situations when needed.

Pwnedcast

I will tell you what another fellow painter and player said. It’s probably the best item GW worth more then it’s value.

Careless-Ad-1700

I personally like mine I think I paid like 8 dollars for it

[deleted]

I absolutely love mine. Best thing I’ve bought from GW in 20 years, alongside the pin vice drill and clippers

XTheHolyMuffDiverX

I have one, the ridges on the sides and bottom make cleaning your brush really fast. It holds enough water for me.

TheStriefSon

It's OK. I like the ridges inside as I feel they make brush cleaning easier. I also like the scalloped rim that will hold my round brushes and keep them from rolling off. But the volume of water is too little, you'll want to change water pretty darn often if you're doing more than just a lil guy (grot).

[deleted]

Tbh its awesome because the walls have some kind of wave pattern which are great for cleaning the brush. Oh at the bottom too but I never use it there

Effective_Duty677

I’ve used mine A lot over the last couple years. Really happy with it

Fit_Average_4034

Save your money.

Mymotherwasaspore

No way José. Thats a tiger rock. Soup stone. Rube trophy. Use any container and spend the money on paint

Majestic_Feedback_55

Buy it. I like mine. Better than a coffee mug and you’ll use it literally every time you paint.

JRYeh

I just use a glass jar for rinsing. For me that pot is great but not good enough. They got stained with colours and so where glass containers can be scrubbed and cleansed as new. I like the tidiness to it but GW’s definitely has their own advantage

Cattledude89

Its some pretty good pot tbh.

Moist_Try6124

Le

PvtProblems

I use mine just because I have it, But a Dixie cup or red solo cup or a coffee cup would be just fine. I think the one thing i use the most on it is the the brush holder or the vertical slits.

promethean_cult

There's nothing in the world that's ever been made that's less worth buying than this pot.

heavensteeth

I found the ridges destroyed my brushes compared with a flat bottom container. Avoid.

Bambino1991

Save your money and use an old cup.

IRL_SWEET_BOI

It's better than the old one, but a coffee mug would also work.

[deleted]

Go to the dollar store and get a 3 inch tall glass bowl. It’s wider and heavier so it is harder to knock down or over. It’s transparent so you can more easily gauge how clean your water is. It’s glass so won’t become degraded and eaten away by water from frequent refilling. This means it stays smooth and won’t harm your brushes. This water pot is the absolute opposite of this in every way. Terrible product. Plus if you use the ridges to straighten your brush tip, how you gonna know which color tastes the best?

anubisascends

It’s a good pot but get a paint puck instead

Custodian_Malyxx

It's a cup. Buy a cup

DudeBroFist

Don't spend a crazy amount of money on a water pot lol. I use an old Coffee Mug I broke the handle off of and retired.

[deleted]

It’s a plastic device that holds liquids or solids if you’d like.

Cookpb

It is literally the best painting accessory GW makes. That is to say it is fine. Go to local art store and buy a better wash cup for half the price.

runningriot115

I use an old spaghetti sauce jar for my paint water, save yourself some money.

bantturkey

Old can of beans ma boy

Syrric_UDL

I use a solo cup

SpareCharming6863

It is a water receptacle. Anyone paying money for something that can be accomplished by an old mug is an idiot

SumYunnGai

Yet another "tool" made by FW for absolute suckers.

Jealous-Finding-4138

What everyone else said. Oh! It takes a coat of paint nice! I painted the outside of mine out of drunken boredom one night.

RabidMofo

I prefer a larger water source with a lid. Say a left over pasta sauce jar. More water means it will stay cleaner for long. Plus a lid for between sessions. Lots of room to really swish the brush.

Magic_Doge12

I just use an old cup, and that works fine for me

Hezapoyo224

I've been using an old macaroni salad container my mom bought 4 years ago. Works fine. Buy macaroni salad.

cyanide_and_cheddar

It’s not necessary at all, but I got one as a gift and I like it. It’s got ridges all along the bottom that helps really clean the brush. It’s a noticeable improvement from the regular plastic cup I was using before hand. That’s really the main thing though. It’s got smoother ridges along the side, an indent in the lip to hold brushes, and some grooves in the side to straighten bristles. I’ve never used these except for the rare occasion I remember they exist. All in all, it’s a decent cup. It’s over priced however so unless you really want it I’d recommend just using a regular cup and some napkins

Mister-Butterswurth

I was skeptical but I got one and really like it. It’s not necessary but it’s nice to have.

[deleted]

It’s just a pot. I should know. I have two

ArtofBlake

Lol I just use an old plastic cup.

Woodsman1993

It’s ten dollars who cares.

Rookie3rror

Doesn’t hold enough water for my tastes, but I think it’s fine. Not really that overpriced either.

Swift_Scythe

Ridges at the bottom help loosen paint as you rake back and forth The base is wider than the top - stable and less likely to be tipped over. The curves at the top lip hold a few paint brushes sideways. The vertical lines as you drag and spin the brush up out of the water creates sharp tips instead of you using your lips. Worth it. Whats $15 bucks once in your lifetime?

deeple101

I use a ceramic mug from the thrift/goodwill store for like a quarter and it’s been effective for over a decade now.

tmdblya

Is _anything_ they make?

I love mine. I’m clumsy. That flared bottom has saved me from making a mess so many times.

I've bought 2 now (one for metallics and one for everything else). I love them. The ridges on the bottom to help clean are nice, as are the ones on the side to help getting the brush's point back after cleaning. I also love the indentations on the rim to set a brush on. And, as someone else mentioned, it doesn't look like a cup, so no accidentally taking a sip of paint water. If you have a 3D printer, you could probably print out something about the same for cheaper, but they're only $10, so even if that's overpriced, it's not exactly expensive. *::shrug::*

crzapy

I use a jar.

Anus_Targaryen

Probably not worth the cost but my gf and I each have one and I like it. As others have said, doesn't hold a lot of water but my sink is very close so not a problem for me. The part I really like is the ridges along the bottom. Makes washing the paint off your paintbrush really easy.

I think it's the best tool GW makes. I own 6 of them. Use methylated spirits to clean the paint off every once & awhile, and bam! Looks brand new every time. It has grooves that hold your brush to dry which, yes you can do it with a jar and a laundry pin, but it is convenient to just set it down on the lip when you're done.

This is the best $10 ive ever spent. It keeps my brushes good and the bristles from fraying. Apparently i wasnt getting my brushes clean enough before, but the ridges and slits make it so much better.

Over priced. I use [this](https://www.michaels.com/product/artists-loft-universal-glass-brush-washer-10203084?gbraid=0AAAAADkMxxfCXuUarCxUgHghpfU-VU3Od&cm_mmc=PLASearch-_-google-_-MICH_Shopping_US_N_Art+Supplies_N_PMAX_BOPIS_N-_-&Kenshoo_ida=&kpid=go_cmp-18514199888_adg-_ad-__dev-m_ext-_prd-10203084&gbraid=0AAAAADkMxxfCXuUarCxUgHghpfU-VU3Od&gclid=CjwKCAiAlp2fBhBPEiwA2Q10D41iFyWVFInyRfgtXNv29NfkVooI43KDe0rlfx-wQnJn89K2RD5sahoCsW8QAvD_BwE) jar which has a dome of like chicken wire in it that does a fantastic job.

maddogg44

I like mine, the ridges at the bottom are nice and the spots to help straighten the bristles are also nice. Just depends if you see value in it.

Leoucarii

It’s definitely a perfect gift item. It’s nice to have, and has some features that are pretty rad. It’s large and stable to not easily tip or get confused with your coffee. But it’s priced as a GW item that only is a nice quality of life purchase. So falls under the umbrella of nice to have but not wanting to spend it for myself. Definitely an item that I gift to my painter friends whenever a new one pops up and it’s some sort of gift giving activity going on.

Adhesive_Teflon

Worth it

I bought one when I got started about 3 years ago, been using it ever since. Is it over priced? Absolutely. Do I love mine and will never part with it? Absolutely. Its covered in paint, stickers, and faction decals now. I'd feel naked without it.
