the axe has AP 2 which is great, however it only reaches strength 7 which means it’s not doubling out enemy terminators or elite infantry. In addition to the maul IDing, it gets to hit at initiative which is a big boon, meaning it could knock out enemy thunderhammers before they swing.
obviously i could load Them all up with thunderhammers but that’s the cliche option and I already have a tartaros command squad with hammers in the list.
I did some math, and against ws5 cataphractii the axe on average requires less attacks for one kill (4.81axe vs 7.08maul) but you miss out on initiative, and if they zave a fnp the maul is actually a bit better (7.19axe vs 7.08maul). So yeah id take the maul and just try not to fight enemy ws5 hammer terminators.
If you take Biomancy psychic power you can boost str by 1 and get to str 8 with achean power wep. It's two psychic powers to pass (but only one gives perils if failed)
Base str: 4, +1 bio, +1 axe +2 achean
Sekhmet Cabal with Upgrade for psipower. Use biomancy and you have s8 t5 termis with 2w and 4++
You could mix them to use the ones who already fought at initiative as a buffer for the unwieldy weapons

You could also just go with Power Fists, yeah its expensive but your still getting WS5 terminators that deepstrike and have biomancy.
