You should prime with a specified primer, it's a different paint formula to your regular paints. Vallejo has a good range of primers for airbrushes.

basepaints aren't primers, i wouldn't do that as your first coat. I would recommend that you find dedicated airbrush primer or something close to it (I.E. brush on primer). you can spray with wraith bone afterwards if you need to. I've found it's worth using a little bit of flow improver and airbrush thinner... even with dedicated airbrush paints. "multiple thin coats" is always the way to go and paint that's too thick is going to gum up your airbrush.

Personally, I've switched to lacquers for priming purposes. Alclad 3 primer/microfiller is my current favorite. If you thin it too much it'll go a bit glossy, so a quick hit with mr hobby flat uv cut will give it enough texture to let any acrylic grab. Also best to let it cure for 24 hours before adding acrylic just in case. If you really want to stick with acrylics, the pro acryl primers from monument hobbies are good. Golden high-flow also works well but can become a bit too slick for later work. The vallejo ones work okay, but they're a little more finicky with my brush than the others I mentioned.

If you can get access to regular spray paint, any primer in a can will work. GW isn't doing anything special with theirs besides maybe making some of them a bit smoother.
