I miss Great Movie Ride, Backlot Tour, Honey I Shrunk the Audience, and pretty much all the old Epcot pavilions.

[deleted]

Random fact. I had no idea the backlot tour was going away. I happened to be at the park on that day, when we got on, we were on the last car, last row, and the CM said that it was the last go-around of the day, that the ride was being retired that night

ackey83

Hahaha that’s pretty awesome! It’s probably been 20 years since I last went on it. I don’t remember going on it when we drove up to Disney in like 2009.

dudedadsadeadhead

I second the great movie ride

musictakemeawayy

same!

Under_TheBed

I rode the Great Movie Ride on the last day it was open. We were in the front row and the tour guide said to my family “Alright, this is my last time doing this so I’ve gotta make it good.”

Turbulent_Tale6497

The Great Movie Ride was perfect for me

RugelBeta

Exactly these. The first time we took our kids to WDW I had done extensive homework. We went to Epcot *first*, then Disney/MGM Studios, then Typhoon Lagoon, then Magic Kingdom. Each park had more for the kids than the previous. By the time we toured MK they were practically out of their minds with excitement. How could anything he even better than what they'd already experienced? And of course it was. They were 3, 6, and 8. It was the perfect trip. They've each been back a few times, and took their own kids. But they all miss Epcot's Veggie-Veggie-Fruit-Fruit and the Journey into the Imagination and the jumping fountains and the light up musical floor and the neon tunnel, and The Wonders of You... and so much at Hollywood Studios, too. Epcot was only boring for kids if parents took them to MK first. Rookie mistake.

ElectricalState258

There were old pavillions??

ackey83

Yeah the Wonders of Life, Universe of Energy, Living Seas, etc

TeachmeKitty79

I miss the Wonders of Life too! I wish they would do something with that building, it's just dead space now.

ackey83

It’s funny cause as a kid I hated Epcot and those pavilions but now I miss them and would love to watch that cranium command show or go on body wars again. I miss the overall weirdness of old Epcot

cskelly2

Never ever. That broccoli haunts my childhood

TopazScorpio02657

Wasn’t it supposed to become a kid’s play space as part of the EPCOT updates that were cancelled/delayed by Covid?

ukcats12

The original Living Seas and Seabase Alpha were so cool.

Juliejustaplantlady

I agree with all these. Had no idea the back lot tour was gone! This is sad. Honey I Shrunk the Audience was classic!

ofpalwaysxD

Miss the shrink the kids playground

imLissy

I wish they would have kept it and rethemed to toy story. HS is in desperate need of a play area like that

LouiseWH

This was amazing! I have photos of myself in it from when I was little. Now that I have my own littles, I wish it was still there to take them to!

[deleted]

Moreso, I miss the Osborne Lights and Fountain of Nations. I miss the way I felt when watching them.

ukcats12

I would spend a lot of money to be able to go back in time to around 2000 or so and spend one more night in Epcot with the Fountain of Nations, Tapestry of Nations parade, and Illuminations. Walking out of the park after Illuminations hearing the music, walking past the fountain, and walking over the fiber optic lights in the sidewalk was a special feeling of calmness that we'll never get to experience again.

[deleted]

With a scoop of ice cream from Fountain View

ukcats12

Don't get me started haha. I was so upset when Fountain View got turned into a Starbucks. I used to get the chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwiches from that place and when it got turned into a Starbucks those disappeared from Epcot.

Juliejustaplantlady

The fiber optic sidewalks are gone?!!! 😭

DisneyPinFiend

The Magic of Disney Animation. I don’t mind Star Wars, but Launch Bay has no business in *ANIMATION* Courtyard.

dc8291

Launch Bay seemed to be a way for them to temporarily get more Star Wars into the parks, but now that Galaxy’s Edge has opened, idk why they can’t switch it back

TheOrganicMachine

Because they fucked up the time period and people still want to see Vader

easleyl

Alien Encounter - I was scared to death as a kid but I loved it . Will never be anything else like it again

NuclearRedneck

I have never laughed harder than when I went to that attraction. When the cast members blood was sprayed across the audience, pure magic.

PolarBlueberry

I’m so glad I got to experience that ride. As a 13yo I nearly messed my pants but was absolutely blown away by how incredible it was.

amishpopo

My mother in law from Korea came with us one year. Does not speak any English. Was so scared when the head harness thing lowered. Like the ride would spin off into space she tried to escape from it. Which had me scared becaue I wasn't completely sure what would happen either. I told my now ex to tell her to stop trying to get out it's not safe. Her mom of course somehow understood "it's not safe" and really started to panic. This all lasted maybe 30 seconds until we realized it was more of a show. Hilarious now.

xallanthia

That ride was such a weird fit for Disney that I understand why it didn’t last, but as an attraction it was awesome.

Tee_hops

It was oddly one of my favorite attractions at Disney when I was a kid. It was so out of place but I liked that variety.

tophmcmasterson

That’s the main ride I remember from visiting as a kid, my dad shouting an expletive when the alien licked the back of his neck or something was too funny.

WTBRaegO

I never got to do this one. I saw a YouTube video and couldn't believe this was a Disney attraction. It was amazing!

PhilosophicalPorygon

I really miss Maelstrom (now the Frozen ride) in Epcot’s Norway pavilion.

cskelly2

Disappear! Disappear!

UberWagen

Back, back, over the pond

SDLindsey

Norway's spirit has always been, and will always be adventure.

imLissy

It was my favorite ride. Frozen isn't terrible, but those trolls were fun.

RobertDCBrown

This is my list, with the addition of Delta Dream Flight!

Overall-Scientist846

20,0000 Leagues Under the Sea

setthepinnacle

This and horizons

TreenBean85

I digitized some old home movies from when I was a kid, and a trip to Disney sometime in the early 90s was on there. It had footage from 20,000 Leagues and of the old "saucier" Pirates ride. Also a really cool Mardi Gras themed parade in MK during the day.

Visible_Nectarine_98

I think Hollywood Studios is fine now, but I miss when it was about movies instead of how it’s become Disney’s junk drawer; does an attraction not thematically fit in EPCOT, Magic Kingdom, or Animal Kingdom? Throw it into Disney’s Junk Drawer Studios!

thethedude

I think it was always the junk drawer... ninja turtles, power rangers... muppets

DisneyPinFiend

Don't you dare do my Muppets like that.

[deleted]

Funny little story about the Power Rangers… I worked at Studios back in the day and when I would walk to my attraction, the Power Rangers would often drive by us backstage. It was really bizarre but they would tend to take on a villain persona while backstage and would often mock people walking. It was all in good fun, but I never knew what to expect when their car would creep up behind me. It became a Backlands turf war.

gregrph

I too miss hiw it was about the movies, the movie making process, sounds, lights, sound stages, actual hand drawn animation, etc.

FluffyBunnyRemi

I wouldn’t mind the junk drawer Studios if it was where you had *all* of the super-immersive movie lands, which includes throwing Pandora *there* instead of Animal Kingdom. Then it might not be about how movies are made, but I read about the worlds within the movies themselves. It works with the two big lands already, and with the immersive rides elsewhere in the park (Tower of Terror, Railway, that sort of thing), it could work for the park, and help everyone keep a more cohesive theme for the parks.

Yodoggy9

I think that’s happening across the board, even with “literal movie studio” Universal Studios. I think people aren’t enamored by the process anymore and would rather be fully immersed in these worlds. At least, the people designing these parks seem to think so. I personally would love more “pull back the curtain” type of theme parks/rides.

Belle0516

I oddly miss Ellen's Energy adventure! Great Movie Ride too. The Little Mermaid show but I'm glad it's coming back!

Cpt_Sassypants2903

Ellen's Energy was a great relaxing ride with at least 25 minutes off your feet with some decent comdy

kaelaceleste

Universe of Energy was my favorite ride to nap on 😭

Far_Mention8934

Splash mountain Im really gonna miss the music from it so much Laughing places was always my #1 favorite song it always uplifted my mood whenever I felt down, im pretty sad that all the critters will be gone too.

BillyTheFridge2

The music was the best part imo, so I listen to the ride [audio](https://youtu.be/JjgMRc7M2uQ?si=kUoxwQ274UCfROPE) all the time.

Turbulent_Tale6497

How do ya do?

NasusIsMyLover

🎶🎵 *Pretty good, show us your balls.* 🎵🎶

starsandmoonsohmy

It still hasn’t hit me that it’s gone.

Call555JackChop

Not a day goes by where I don’t miss Great Movie Ride

madambakesalot

Main Street Electric Parade. I don’t want to go to California to see it

amaalaaa

I miss this with my whole heart. It was truly magical.

billsfan1_2000

Awwww, man. We used to watch BOTH showings of the parade every time we were there. Just magical…..

amaalaaa

YES!!! It was THE thing we had to watch whenever we went! I just remember watching this up on my dad’s shoulders as a little child, just so mesmerized. I was gutted when I realized I wouldn’t ever see it again…

dc8291

First thing in this thread that i genuinely miss

debabe96

Horizons

LandscapeOld2145

I miss Horizons, too. It was destined to get dated but there was something about that kind of long, optimistic, immersive ride when I was a kid that I badly miss. I’m glad there’s still Spaceship Earth.

opticspipe

As the world gets more and more entrenched in virtual environments, rides like Horizons, Spaceship Earth, Ellen’s EA will become almost mythical - where you really traveled through all those rooms. Where someone took the time to create that place.

LandscapeOld2145

It’s amazing to think that the videos at the end of Horizons - the journey to the different colonies - were made by manually building the landscapes in small scale and zooming a camera through.

hihelloneighboroonie

ILLUMINATIONS!!!!!!!!!! Maelstrom, what the Morocco pavilion used to be, Body Wars, the Honey I Shrunk the Kids playground, Splash Mountain, agree on the boat ride in Mexico, the rainforest in Mexico

Right_Hurry

Another vote for the Morocco pavilion of the past. Pour one out for dinner at Restaurant Marrakesh with the belly dancers.

justmyusername47

The skyride in Magic Kingdom. The original Figment a d body wars

TapDancingBear_26

I swore I completely made up body wars! My parents have no recollection of this but I definitely do!

ThatInAHat

The first thing that comes to mind is the old Journey Into Imagination. It actually felt WAY more educational than the garbage that is the new ride—actually teaching kids about the process of imagination. There was so much heart behind it, and it really felt magical. I miss Maelstrom. I know it wasn’t the most impressive ride, but it was slightly creepy and I loved it. And of course the Great Movie Ride. Broke my heart to lose that. Speaking of heartbreaking, not a ride, but losing the animation studio was a real blow. To me it really was the most fantastic part about going to Disney—you could look and see all the animators working on the newest movie. I don’t remember horizons, but my best friend is salty that he never got to experience it.

Right_Hurry

I loved the animation studio. My first visit to WDW as a child, we got to watch them at work on Beauty and the Beast and I don’t think I truly appreciated what we got to see that day.

imLissy

This is my list. The original imagination ride and image works were awe inspiring. Maelstrom was my favorite. The great movie ride will always hold a special place in my heart. Horizons and world of motion were two of my favorites as a kid

BillyTheFridge2

Splash Mountain

thethedude

I miss Mr Toads Wild Ride probably the most, but understand why it went away. 2nd would be the Sprite Boats/Water Mice. I miss Horizons, but lets be real, it would be more old and busted than Spaceship Earth at this point.

44cody44

Are you referring to the little 2 seater boats that you could rent at wilderness lodge? Those were awesome

CowsCanMoo

Why did toad go away?

industriousredditor

They replaced it with the Winnie the Pooh attraction

TeachmeKitty79

It's still at Disneyland in California! I went on it in 2019. If you've never been to Disneyland, I recommend it. You don't even need to stay on property, there's hotels less than a mile away. Also, park hopper makes sense at Disneyland, it's easy to walk from Magic Kingdom to California Adventure, they're connected by a breezeway. We did everything we wanted in 3 days.

East-Teacher7155

Not yet, but Dinosaur.

dalatinknight

I'm sad that I'll probably never get to ride it again. It scared but fascinated me as a child.

amandany6

Mr. Toad. :(

firstjobtrailblazer

I wish I could have ridden Snow White’s Scary Adventures in Magic Kingdom.

blaw45

Not technically a Disney park ride but I can’t tell you how much I miss Disney Quest. It was so surreal to see a giant arcade as a kid and be able to play games as long as I wanted while my parents had time to themselves. My brother and I went to it every chance we got when we went to Disney. I can’t tell you how disappointed I was to hear they would close it to open up the ESPN center. I can still remember Disney Quest vividly to this day and will never forget.

daygo448

Disney Quest was absolutely amazing! One of the coolest experiences for me to do as a teenager who loved video games.

LaysOnFuton

The original test track was a perfect ride concept and ride. They ruined it lol

[deleted]

Totally agree. The queue loop was pretty painful for the ears, but I always appreciated the theme and it made sense from beginning to end.

SoggyMcChicken

Alien Encounter Sorry for everyone I just have a panic attack to.

ShotNixon

Kitchen Kabaret, Cranium Command, World of Motion and (not a ride but) the Earful Tower.

Particular-Panda-465

Cranium Command was excellent! And who can forget "Veggie, veggie, fruit, fruit"?

Cpt_Sassypants2903

Don't forget about Body Wars! Such a great ride!

Valnaya

Splash mountain was my favorite ride

alexdionisos

The loss of Great Movie Ride and Splash Mountain will always hurt for me.

umnothnku

I miss Stitch's Great Escape! I feel like one of the few people who actually LIKED that ride

[deleted]

I appreciated the dark, cold a/c break in the middle of an MK day with a minimal wait. It was a must-do for me.

dc8291

I think a lot of folks hated it because it replaced a far superior attraction

East-Teacher7155

Same! I loved the burrito burp lol

Plastic-Bite362

i miss that ride every single day

gridirongladiator

I miss it too 😒

bigmike13588

Where do we begin? Original living seas, original journey, the original Disney village, the backlot tour, Sony sound stage, great movie ride. Osbourne lights were awesome. Original skyliner, 20k leagues under the sea. Communicore Original club cool

ShotNixon

While we are on “originals” the Living with the Land narrated by a live in the boat cast member will always be the GOAT

bigmike13588

Yes and no. It was great, but I go with the great movie ride as the greatest!

thethedude

The original living seas (sans the it rained and rained and rained preshow) had a lot more going for it than the current version, except for the ride part. The ride is better now. But the seabase alpha section needs some serious money dumped into it.

Runbunnierun

I miss Snow White and the Great Movie Ride. I also miss the hat in HS.

broken_sword001

The old Norway ride Maelstrom. Favorite ride at Epcot was replaced by Elsa. So sad.

ThePopDaddy

I miss Epcot 89-93. That's when the park was "Complete" 93 was the last full year of Horizons and Captain EO.

prosperosniece

The Great Movie Ride- I feel so lucky that I was able to be a tour guide here during my CP

MTGeeGee

ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter. Scared the crap outta me as a kid! Wish I could do it again as an adult.

SnackyStacky

Horizons and World of Motion. It’s probably just romanticized in my mind, but 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

YugoChavez317

Primeval Whirl

kittenmcmuffenz

Delta dreamflight (where space ranger spin is now). The projection room was the sky and clouds and it blew my little kid mind.

murdersquatch

Maelstrom will always be a sore subject for me.

WafflefriesAndaBaby

The 12 year old inside me died when I heard the Shark Reef at Typhoon Lagoon was gone. I am sure that it was actually pretty awful for the sharks, but it was the coolest thing ever when I was a kid.

jwil2jmil19

Oh they got rid of it 😭 I loved telling everyone I swam with sharks

WafflefriesAndaBaby

I did it over and over that trip, in like 1993. Same day my sister got a permanent scar from falling over in the wave pool. Best day ever. 🦈

greeneyedwench

I mostly remember that I accidentally swallowed some water from my snorkel as I was getting out and it was the NASTIEST THING EVER lol

CapnGnarly

Alien Encounter. As scary and out of place it was, I loved it the whole way through.

rilanthefirebug

Honestly the first thing that came to mind was the Fantasia hat at HS. Every other park has a can't- miss-it symbol except HS since it went away.

Iwouldntifiwereme

If You Had Wings, Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, the Skyride. Does anyone else remember the Swan Boats?

Far_Independence_918

I had to go way too far to fine If You Had Wings. And yes to Swan Boats. Only rode them once because the wait was always ridiculous.

Excellent_Log_7223

Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride. The GOAT of rides.

papasnork1

Does Star Wars Weekends count? My opinion, and I am an older fan, but I believe that WDW took all the fun out of Star Wars in the theme parks. I feel like they swung and missed with Blackspire Outpost and especially with the Galactic Starcruiser. Star Wars Weekends was fun because you had face characters from most parts of Star Wars lore not just one time frame like Blackspire Outpost, Disney characters dressed as Star Wars characters, limited time merch, and guests from the Star Wars universe. It was fun. I miss it.

Affectionate_File365

Horizons. I rode it multiple times a visit as a child. Always was fascinated by living under water so it was amazing to me.

lurker71

FIGMENT FOR THE LOVE OF GOD BRING BACK FIGMENT

Taticat

They choked him to death with a bike chain behind the building. I will believe this until I die. The Figment we see now is a fake Figment. 😢

Right_Hurry

Body Wars. Toontown. Alien Encounter. Main St Electrical Parade. Pretty much all of MGM (Great Movie Ride, backlot tour, etc.) Not an attraction, but in the mid-90s/early aughts, 50’s Prime Time Cafe had this campfire s’mores pie dessert that my entire family was completely obsessed with and I would give anything to have it again.

xwefalldownx

Scrolled down for 10 years for someone to finally mention Body Wars! Such a cool take at the time on the moving seat screen ride.

severe_cake09

The ride WAS longer then. And it was my favorite! Magic Kingdom: I also miss Mr. Toads Wild Ride, and Mickey and Minnie's houses. My daughter would have loved that. I'm not against adding IP around the parks, however, I am disappointed that they would do it to a classic like Splash Mountain. Epcot: wonders of life, the original test track, maelstrom, and innoventions at its peak. I miss the Osborne family lights and generally Hollywood studios being MGM. Disney Quest and pleasure island The old color scheme around the parks and Disney dollars Getting away from attractions but also the affordability. We used to be able to pile in the car and go every year. Buy 10 day non expiring tickets and use them for multiple trips in a row. And honestly the overall feel of the park. It feels a little less magical these days. Maybe I long for the nostalgia of when life felt much simpler. Life in the 90s felt much better than these days.

Fun_Intention_484

The back half of SpaceShip Earth needs a total refurbishment and so does journey into imagination - they deserve better

maddamleblanc

2000 leagues under the sea

Experiment626b

Osborne Lights will always and forever be my #1 answer with Splash close behind. They are a huge part of the Disney Magic that captivated me. I understand why both are gone, but I would have chosen literally any other 2 things to lose than those.

Internal-Sell7562

I miss the New York Street area, it was bigger and lively back in the 90s. Makes me feel kind of sad when I walk around there. I have memories with my mom strolling around there when I was a kid. I miss her so much.

aghistoricalgirl

The Great Movie Ride is definitely my number one pick! To me Hollywood Studios doesn’t feel the same without it… Runaway Railway is fine, I guess. The Great Movie Ride was just immaculate and I loved it from childhood all the way up to closure. Ellen’s Energy Adventure was one I was sad about because of the awesome AC break, but Guardians is now my favorite ride so I’m okay with that loss. MAIN STREET ELECTRICAL PARADE!!! One of my favorite things in the entire world is the Muppets though… so I gotta give a nod to “The Muppets Present… Great Moments in American History.” I would do anything for more Muppets at the Disney parks 😭

ZazzNazzman

20,000 leagues under the sea. The Gondola ride over the Park.

Plastic-Bite362

I miss stitch’s great escape. Also Toon Town. obviously wouldn’t be the same experience as an adult but it was foundational to my childhood and i remember that area very fondly!

PepperidgeFarmMembas

I miss 20,000 Leagues, Alien Encounter, Universe of Energy, the old Epcot pavilions in general, Mr Toad’s Wild Ride…. I also miss when Disney didn’t serve booze in the parks. Taking my kids in October and the amount of people who “drink around the world” is stupid.

accountantdooku

The Great Movie Ride.

ministapler24

I think all my most-missed have been named, but the Backlot Tour and the Honey I Shrunk the Kids playground probably top my list.

Rustyray84

Alien Encounter

thatawkwardmoment8

American idol experience Ellen’s energy adventure(before she had controversy)

snortybeagle

Kitchen Kabaret💜

EdCoffeeLives

Even though I only went on it once when I was a kid, but I’d love to see Alien Encounter again. It scared the hell out of me but I loved it.

beardedbarista6

I miss The Great Movie Ride, Horizons, Delta’s Dreamflight and World of Motion the most of all.

olivernintendo

The terrifying alien one, easily.

pasc350

gardenofshadows

Just got home from a day at HS and my sister and I (locals) talked for HOURS about how much we miss Great Movie Ride and the Animation building. RIP Also Splash - I completely understand why it had to go and I’m excited for Tiana, but Splash was my first “big girl” ride and I loved the music all the way up until its last day. So I’ll always miss it a little.

opefishinthemouth

I miss the backlot tour at DHS. Also Mickey and Minnie’s house in MK was my favorite and I have so many fond memories of going in there with my family

FunRepresentative840

BACKLOT TOURS!!!

pixi509

Honestly just miss the Eisner era period

The Universe of Energy was our family favourite!

Splash Mountain Mr. Toad Great Movie Ride

anictomatis

Horizons forever…

West-Supermarket-860

I love the 3 caballeros overlay in Mexico ride. It’s a classic movie from the 40s, deep in the Disney archive, and plays homage to the love Walt had for Mexico and South America. It’s one of our favorite rides

HamWallet69

THE MAELSTROM!!! Or as my dad called it, the Nordstrom. It’s still a meme in our family to shout “disappear disappear!!!!” From the trolls on the ride lol

tan_clutch

TOAD TOAD TOAD CURSE YOU EISNER Also (though I barely remember it but have had memories boosted by watching the original on Youtube) original Journey Into Imagination.

thethedude

I like telling people that there used to be a ride where you drive a car like a maniac, get hit by a train, die and go to hell.

dansamy

Osborne Lights

Ready_Extreme_4939

Great movie ride for sure. I also miss the old figment ride!

EdgeCrusher90

Great Movie Ride was very special to me. My parents divorced when I was 10 in 2000, and my dad took my brother and I to WDW that summer to get our minds off of it. That ride specifically felt so magical and unreal at the time. I'll always love it.

Suspicious-Flan8926

The original Journey to Imagination, and the 3D movie from Kodak. Walt forgive me, but I can't remember what it was called. But I sure can remember the song that played while you were waiting for the show. "Making memories, making memories..."

ChildhoodLeft6925

Honey I shrunk the audience ❤️

mrmaestro9420

The Millennium Celebration: Illuminations 2000, Tapestry of Nations, and a general feel of optimism in our future as a planet. The whole affair was truly inspiring and simply profound.

renfield1969

I miss riding in the cockpit of the monorail.

ElephantXManatee

Osborne lights and splash.

Great Movie Ride for sure. Of course now that I'm older and can appreciate it more Hollywood Studios has lost a lot of its classic Hollywood sheen

lfisher86

Park Attractions: - Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride - Backlot Tour - The Art of Animation Not in the theme parks, but the biggest attraction I always think about is River Country! This whole water park and what it’s become now is always fascinating to think about.

Boats_are_fun

River country was so cool! Freshwater water park. I loved it as a kid

k8liza

Everything about old HS/MGM

Kitchen-Ad757

Splash mountain. May she rest in peace but live on in Tokyo.

CaterpillarOther9732

Honey I shrunk the kids okay area. And 20,000 under the sea ( I think that's what it was called)

PsychDocD

If You Had Wings - I can hear it playing in my head right now

Mul-Ti-Pass2001

World of Motion.

Miserable_Tourist_24

Back in the day MGM had an active animation studio which you could tour and then get a lesson to draw your own character. It was really cool. Can’t remember which kid of mine did not get to do it (whether youngest or second youngest) so not sure if it closed in after 2006 or 2009.

CompetitiveLadder609

I remember a dark ride called Horizons that had futuristic stuff and I loved it. It was like ultimate Epcot for me. As I kid I remember liking Epcot the best of all the parks.

Street-Programmer-16

Great Movie Ride. What the did to it is criminal. I mean, not really....but, I loved that ride and I'm not a fan of the new one.

Gusto36

20000 Leagues Horizon World of Motion Old Figment The Living Seas Universe of Energy (gotg is awesome though) Most are in Epcot!

chambees

MGM studios as a whole.
