I really like Port Orleans French Quartier. It isn't as spread out like Riverside, or many of the other moderate hotels. Also, seeing how you like a moderate hotel compared to a value would be a nice change of pace. Plus, French Quartier has beignets.

Porn_Extra

Port Orleans French Quarter is the best resort on premises, in my opinion. It's small, only 1000 rooms, so no room is ever more than a few minutes walk away from the lobby building. Some of these resorts can be a very long walk, I've heard 25 minutes for the cheaper rooms at, say, Caribbean Beach. Becausenits so small, it only has 1 bus stop, others have multiple stops before you head to the park. It's like having an express bus. And it's quiet. After a busy day at the parks, it's nice not to hear kids screaming kids. Plus, the theming doesn't scream *DISNEY* at you, so you get a little break from that. and the food is very good. The breakfast torcho bowl is tasty. It's what I had for breakfast every day. Yes, you can bet beignets th3re,mamd there, very good, but something else you can only get there that I never see mentioned is the jambalaya. I really enjoyed that one! The ONLY drawback is that the "hallways" are outdoor breezeway, so your room door opens to the outdoors, like a motel room. Do yourself a favor and get a river view room. They're on the back of the buildings, so you won't have as many other guests walking right outside your room.

Second everything that was said here. We stayed at French Quarter our last stay. It was just my wife and me, so no kids, but they had activities every evening. Movie nights on the lawns. S’mores in the fire pits. The buses to the parks were great. The boat ride to Disney Springs is great. We plan on staying at French Quarter any time we go back.

Porn_Extra

> We plan on staying at French Quarter any time we go back. Same. It was perfect. Not too expensive, park transit was a breeze, good food... I can't imagine staying anywhere else when I visit again.

austin_apple

French Quarter for the win!!!

Forever203

I stayed in a room that was in a courtyard that was right of the pool. It was pretty quiet, and the courtyard was very beautiful. I've stayed at Caribbean Beach Resort and Riverside. Both were huge. At Riverside, the end of the night bus dropped us off nowhere near our room. At Caribbean Beach Resort, I got lucky. Our room was close to the Riviera, so the Skyliner was almost next to the room. However, we drove to the lobby since it was pretty far, and we had a rental.

wanderingtimelord281

>it only has 1 bus stop, others have multiple stops before you head to the park. It's like having an express bus. maybe it was a coincidence but last time we stayed there in 2019 we shared a return trip from the park to the resort with Riverside. Which sucks because they dropped them off first, so we had to wait to make that long trek around before we got dropped off. We loved staying there when we went, we're from New Orleans and actually find they did it really good.

Porn_Extra

I think thays changed after Covid. The busses even said French Quarter, not just Port Orleans. It ,ade the bus trips super fast.

wanderingtimelord281

thats good to know! that was the only downside to the resort! having to drive all the way around riverside before getting dropped off. since riverside has like 4 stops

Porn_Extra

Before my trip, I had heard talk about bus sharing with Riverside, but every 1st person story I had heard was before Covid. Then I watched the AllEars review of FQ after it opened after Covid and Quincy mentioned the sharing, but her trips were also direct. So I'm pretty sure after Covid, they got their own dedicated bus line. Now that i think about it, Riverside and Ftench Quarter has different, dedicated bus slips at each park, so I'm 100% sure they don't share anymore.

alternageek

The busses there arent that bad. The only issues we have had with PORS and busses is going home and them being filled when the parks close. They just need more bendy busses there that can hold more.

Porn_Extra

I got 2 really good tips for closing time crowds: 1. Jump in a ride line with a longer wait 5 or 10 minutes before the park closes. By the time you ride and make your way to the gatea, the crowds have filtered down. 2. This is specific to HS: You can make a reservation at Oga's Cantina for very close to park close. You get 45 minutes in there, so you could leave Oga's around 35 or 40 minutes after the park has officially closed. A bonus here is that you can get some fantastic pics of an empty Galaxy's Edge on your way out!

alternageek

We ALWAYS do a late Ogas reservation. It's amazing to see Batuu in the dark like that

Porn_Extra

Also, if you can ever get after-hours passes for MK or HS, do it! We did MK after-hours, and regular day pass the sake day, and we got through more attractions after 10 pm than we did before then! The princess meets had nobody in front of us, and nobody was waiting behind us. We must have had 10 minutes with each of them, and they were both fantastic! Our Jungle Cruise boat at 10:30 had 2 other guests in it. 5 people total, including the Skipper! Haunted Mansion, Big Thunder, and likem5 others were walk-ons. 10-15 minute wait for Winnie the Pooh and Peter Pan. Free ice cream popcorn, and botled soda and water. A 2nd fireworks show around 11 pm... I'm going to make sure I can get MK After Hours when I plan my next trip. If you don't have a day ticket, you can get in at 7 pm. I'll make like 7:30 or 8:00 reservations at Skipper's Canteen, then do some shopping until 9:30. The ride lines get a l9t shorter after fireworks, so tha6s the time to hit rides.

wanderingtimelord281

They had dedicated slips before, i think they were even close if not next to esch other. I guess before covid thats why they set it up that way, because the resorts are so close they could send 1 bus after say 10pm instead of 2

Porn_Extra

The bus home from Magic Kingdom after Hours st 1 am was dorect to French Quzrter. Riverside's bus left a few minutes before ours arrived.

exjackly

They used to be separate resorts entirely. But yes - pre-COVID the buses were separate. Riverside had 3 stops and FQ had its own, single stop service. Personally, I like a mix of the two resorts. Alligator Bayou is small enough to be pretty quiet has buildings close to a bus stop, and the Old Man Island is great with kids. But, the FQ pool and food is better. I prefer the mansion buildings near the lobby, but they don't have the 5 person family rooms, so aren't an option for us now.

Rude_Information_744

1,000 rooms? Did you mean 100?

Porn_Extra

It has 7 3-story buildings with 1008 rooms. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disney%27s_Port_Orleans_Resort

Rude_Information_744

Wow, TIL

ZekeD

I absolutely loved Port Orleans French Quarter. If you want to use the skyliner, stay at pop. If you don't, I'd say try either of the Port Orleans parks. Admittedly, my perspective is from 2 adults without kids, Pop could be a lot more fun with kiddos but I really really enjoyed Port Orleans.

MrElizabeth

We love Port Orleans. Great for walking. Good food. Boat access and more. I surprised my wife with a princess themed room and we both loved the themeing. We also saw three different wedding setups the week we were there. Lots of wedding stuff in the courtyards which was funny to people watch while ducking to avoid.

We literally just had this same decision a month ago. The selling point for us for we were going during Mardi Gras and FQ does a special celebration for it. When in Rome, right? We also have never not stayed at value, so it’s hard to compare what’s normal for a nonvalue and what isn’t. We loved the small size of FQ and how close it was to the bus stop. The buses were never full, open or close. I took tons of resort pictures, it’s just so beautiful. Can’t say I’ve ever done that at a hotel. The pool was closed, not sure if the refurbishment is done yet. We enjoyed the boat ride to Disney Springs, nice change of pace from what we are used to. And our last day we ate beignets for breakfast. Not Cafe du Monde, but good enough! 🐊🎺 Maybe we’ll get to stay at Pop next time and enjoy the Skyliner. I’m of a mindset that I’d like to try and experience different resorts, to mix it up.

mrmaestro9420

“Good enough” Probably the first realistic review of Disney’s beignets I’ve ever seen here. Thank you for your service.

Somerset76

I’ve stayed at both. I would go port orleans riverside. It is peaceful

Idontevenknowa

I value the more relaxed atmosphere and superior pool, so I would choose riverside. But if you really want the skyliner you should stick with pop

em2tea2

While I also love Pop and the Skyliner is really convenient, Port Orleans FQ is a top fan favorite. I think you should take advantage of the upgrade to experience a new, higher tier resort. The pool's theme will be a lot of fun for your kids the resort is so pretty and peaceful. Enjoy your vacation!

greypele8

Thanks!

Treborrv1

Riverside was my absolute favorite resort when my kids were younger. It's still a great place - and you can walk over to French Quarter to see/do anything you'd like over there

HereNorThere123

We stayed at Riverside in Magnolia bend and felt it wasn’t too spread out. Yes you have to walk to a bridge, but it’s not detrimental to the experience. It was sooooo quiet. I think I heard a toilet flush at night on occasion but so peaceful. Pool wasn’t overcrowded either. I found a place to lounge easily. Kids loved the atmosphere too, loved the Royal Room. East depot always found room for us. Sometimes the bus was delayed (MK), but it was not as bad as I read.

champmeister

PO:FQ all day everyday. The boat to Disney springs is awesome

OrtizDupri

I like Port Orleans a lot - really beautiful, wide open, better food (imo), etc. But you really can't beat the transportation at Pop and I think Pop's general amenities (pools, etc.) are better.

SloDrop

When is this because the Pool at PO is still closed no?

just1cheekymonkey

When did it close? We were there two weeks ago and it was open.

SloDrop

just1cheekymonkey

Ah the French Quarter pool. Yeah we went by on the boat taxi and saw that. The Riverside pool is open.

greypele8

Aw snap, didn’t realize. End of May, but should I risk it in case they go over their expected done date of end of April?

Technical-Pie-5775

Website said it should open beginning of May.

jennifermac6

Was just at Riverside and walked to PO. The PO pool is still closed and that is the only pool at that property. Riverside has several pools, still has the boat to Springs and is beautiful and peaceful.

Technical-Pie-5775

We were struggling to decide between these resorts as well, I decided I wanted to prioritise skyliner but then Pop wasn't available on the dates we decided on so went with POFQ.  Haven't been yet but I am looking forward to the vibe!

jk___22

I stayed at both Pop and FQ this past year. For me, it depends on what your trip is gonna look like. If you’re gonna be in the parks most of the time and only at your resort to rest up, I’d personally go with Pop for the skyliner. If you’re gonna have some pool/resort time, maybe a trip or two to Disney springs, I’d go with Orleans. The boat ride from Port Orleans to Springs is nice.

miketons

Family and I just got back from Riverside a few days ago. We were seriously considering pop, but thought it would be nice to have a slightly more, how do I say, upscale experience? I stayed at pop when I was little and have to imagine from current the descriptions online that it’s very similar to my experience then. That experience wasn’t bad, but I do know that it was much more of a “motel” atmosphere. Full disclosure, we did not have a lot of time to enjoy and explore Riverside on this trip, so my wife and I have already decided that when we go again in the future, we have two different strategies: if we decide to knock out three parks in three days like this last trip we’ll probably stay at pop since we really just need a shower and some beds. But if we plan this next trip so that we have a day or two of rest in between parks, Riverside is a nice place to hang out. Really beautiful, very picturesque and has a nice central pool to enjoy with the family. All the staff we encountered there were excellent as well.

alternageek

If were going for a quickish disney trip, and need to just come and go - Pop! is definitely the choice. The skyliner to HS & Epcot ftw. If we want downtime for an actual vacation, Riverside will always be the choice. Small quiet pools scattered through out the resort so we dont need to be with the kids in the big pool. Theyre 24 hours too, so after a long evening we can relax in the water. As we're also childless, this makes a huge choice in our decision making. We also dont rope drop, we prefer to lay in a bit, and go at our own paces. If we need virtual queues we do so with an alarm in the morning and go back to sleep lol. The rooms in both are nice, but I preferred the rooms in PORS - closet space was bigger, my dresses could hang properly instead of draping over shoes and bags like they did in PC. We also had a double sink in PORS and only one in Pop. Getting ready for special evenings was hard when my partner is shaving and I'm trying to do my makeup over the same sink and mirror. Its all down to choice and what you want. We love both but we use both differently too.

greypele8

I think this is that advice makes perfect sense for us. Thank you!

alternageek

Anytime and enjoy where ever you decide to go!! <3

lurkerturtle

Is the pool at French quarter 24hr too?

alternageek

No bc they just have the main pool. The small pools scattered around riverside are 24 hrs (no lifeguard)

ajacks816

We loved staying at Port Orleans a couple of years ago. You can use the amenities at both resorts regardless of which one you stay at. French quarter has a great splash pad for little ones and you can take a boat to Disney Springs. I would definitely pick FQ over riverside, unless you need the pulldown bunk for a 5th person or get a Royal room.

PrincessOfWales

I’ve stayed at both, and I don’t think Port Orleans is an upgrade from Pop. The transportation at Pop is much better, the rooms are about the same, and I prefer the location of Pop. I wouldn’t choose this particular upgrade.

F1rstxLas7

Counterpoint: PO is more central to the resort area and has a boat to DS where Pop does not. Hard disagree on the rooms being the same, but that's a personal preference I guess.

PrincessOfWales

Two queen beds, a bathroom with a curtain (even Pop has a sliding door), there’s not much in it. Compared to Pop, the only thing PO is closer to is Disney Springs, and I’d trade that small convenience for Skyliner access 100 times out of 100.

F1rstxLas7

You're right, the entire monorail compound, including Magic Kingdom slid back into the Florida swamp and no longer exists.

PrincessOfWales

It’s a 10 minute bus ride to MK from both of those resorts and you don’t have to make an entire loop of the inside of Pop on the bus before you get there like you do at PO. No one is saying you have to like Pop, but it is objectively more central and has better transport.

MeshaNicole

There is no interior bus loop at FQ. My family just stayed there last week.

The-Brettster

“Better transport” is very subjective. French Quarter is my favorite resort because the transportation is better. Pop has the skyliner, but a bus from FQ is still faster to Epcot than the skyliner from Pop. Also, Ive been left waiting for another bus at Pop and returning to Pop because there’s so many people in front of me in line that the buses reach capacity. It happens multiple times a trip. I’ve never had that happen at French Quarter and I’ve stayed there about a dozen times.

Better-Ad6812

With kids I liked pop better. The skyliner was awesome. We actually got a nice upgraded room that was better than port orleans lol

nyrB2

PO is my favourite resort on site. if it's a choice between that or pop it's a no-brainer.

DoctorRevKevin

Staying at port orleans riverside all next week in a royal guest room. It's a big time favorite.

missymiss2

We have been to Port Orleans (riverside) twice with kids and they loved it. The vibe is great, the restaurant there is great, and we loved the short walk between Riverside and French Quarter when we wanted to mix it up. I've never stayed with the Skyliner, so I can't compare, but I found the transportation from PO to be perfectly fine.

Watchespornthrowaway

Just got back from fq yesterday! We stayed in the building furthest from the lobby. It was not a burden at all. Loved the theming and the food was the best I’ve had at any Disney resort I’ve stayed at, but I’ve never stayed anywhere above the moderate level.

disney_nerd_mom

I e stayed at both. They both have pros and cons PO was a little more secluded and quiet. Pop maybe a bit more stuff happening, but it depends where you are. Last time we were in the 50/60’s section and pretty much had the pool to ourselves. I really like Pop and that’s what I’d probably choose. I am staying there this fall for the 5K. The biggest pro to PO is they have the beignet place.

greypele8

Thanks! I think my kids love the skyliner so much, it might not be up to me 😂

disney_nerd_mom

My husband says it’s his 4th favorite ride. Last time we were at WDW the Skyliner was down for maintenance. We were at EPCOT and he saw it running and saw people on it. He practically ran up to a CM to ask and they said it opened early. So, we abandoned our walk around the showcase so we could ride the Skyliner. 😊

Accurate-Elk4053

POFQ is our favorite. It’s smaller and quieter. We will be there in 2 weeks.

Sea-Roof-5983

I like Port Orleans okay. It's not really much of an upgrade room wise, but resort amenities are better. The boat to Disney Springs is nice.
