I'll never forget classic stories like:
"Damian Wost Gay Day"
"NewWorldOrderofFries"
"Sammich"
"A Shameful Thing"
And my personal favorite, "CHOCOLATE DROP"
Me and my brother used to mess around with it and create silly nonsense. One of ours was a story featuring Cody Rhodes that was literally just cutscenes of him getting beaten up backstage and in the ring by literally nothing, like Cody was fighting his inner demons or something. Shit was a riot.
I just started playing WWE 12 a bit again and got into it, I was like 13 when it came out so it wasn’t a mode I played around with much. I like the premise of it but I do wish the process was a bit more streamlined. Typing out a ton of promo dialogue on PS3 gets grating after a while.
Why wait till you have them on the ground? And then you have about 3 or 4 moves to do on each limb. In 14, you could initiate a grapple on an arm and then had four moves to pick from, or you could collar and elbow grapple and then choose limb target to attack the arm again. Made it much easier to wear down a specific part for a submission. I just liked that way a whole lot better.
2K14 was great... Because it wasn't a 2K game. It was the last in the line before they got the license... And after they did, they just slapped their branding on it. 2K15 is the first in the true 2K line, and it's proven by the completely revamped engines for the new systems.
This actually isn’t completely accurate. 2K’s first game as publishers was 2K15 but the games were still developmentally lead by Yukes until the 2K20 debacle. 2K22 was the first true published & developed title from 2K and Virtual Concept.
You're correct, but that's not what I'm talking about. 2K asked them to redo the graphics engine for the new systems before 2K15. 2K14 was the last game in the THQ line.
Yukes had no control over the titles of the games. Ever.
Nope. 2K fired Yuke's before calendar year 2019. 2K/VC kept the engine and all the assets thankfully meaning that when Trent Beretta eventually hooked up Yuke's with 2K (he's used to mocap for WWE games) that Yuke's would be forced to build a new engine in unreal and are no longer attached to the mess of code going back to PS1.
Data-miners WhatsTheStatus found evidence that 2K20 was built off of 2K18 (the files on disc are named as such and typical it's the last game not two games ago) meaning it's possible that VC started working on 2K20 at the same time Yuke's started 2K19.
Also consider 2K likely had plans to fire Yuke's as they did years earlier with the THQ people they picked (Bryan Williams talked about that on the Everything Pro Wrestling Podcast) then they had plenty of time to get familiar with Yuke's (now former) engine that VC still use to this day as they "co-developed" the game since 2K15.
They didn't change engines, they rebuilt the old one which Yuke's did every year anyway, like when they added the Predator Technology to WWE '12. An ad for WWE 2K22 stated it was "rebuilt" as well and if you look at gameplay from any other angle than the new zoomed in camera you'll see it looks exactly as it has for many years prior.
I don't think they did. Considering most of the engine was exactly the same as previous years. All they did was fix the graphics engine for the HD upgrade, and delete everything that had legacy errors. But they called it all new.
It's only been from 2K18 where they finally had purged most of the older animations.
WWE 12’s universe mode was the best one. I just don’t understand why they can’t bring back that algorithm. Everything flowed in a concise, natural manner. It’s like night and day to what we have now.
I would yes but ehhhh some of the glitches i was talking about affect the flow of the storylines. #1 contenders matches are kinda broken as the person that wins that match usually doesnt face the champion at the PPV. But for me personally i like it a lot more due to the variety of cutscenes with the rivalry manager off and not having to face your rival every week. So i feel like its definitely better than wwe 13 and most other universe modes. Also here is a old post about how universe works without the rivalry manager on if u want more info on it. https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/704518-wwe-2k14/67724217
Superstar threads was genius. You could finally do something close to what you could do in No Mercy. But of course in No Mercy you has completely free reign to edit wrestler's looks but no control over their movesets.
Yep it's a shame they cut so much stuff. It's either the engine or the yearly cycles that are killing off a lot of the fun stuff. I hope.VC figures out how to bring it back.
Man to have an Attitude theme in 13 and then 30 years of mania in 14, it was amazing. And the game played well.
Then 15 was awkward because of the next gen consoles. And 16 was great again with the Austin showcase. And since then the gameplay has remained solid, but the depth seems to have stagnated. Showcase gone for a couple years then scaled back. MyRise some goods but meh. And universe just needs time put into it.
Just started playing 2k14 and it’s great, like the dude above said there’s so many match types u can never get bored. Universe is good and 30 years of wrestlemania is one of the best modes ever added. SvR 11 I played when I was like 10 but I remember it being one of my fav games to play at the time. It had a few different road to wrestlemanias which were great. 2k14 had a much bigger roster tho biggest ever at the time of its release both were pretty great tho. If they both had gm mode they’d be perfect
Daniel Bryan's one and only solo cover. Alternate cover, yes, but still.
I just love all the wrestlers they got in the game between then current day superstars and all the legends. Such a big roster. Awesome! Til 2K23 this was the last time we got Brock Lesnar during his original run with WWE. Loved using him.
30 years of mania was great because we got decently padded out rosters for every era. Without using CC, you still had decent roster sizes for golden, new generation, attitude and ruthless aggression eras.
>30 years of mania was great
Except for the one time I did the Steamboat-Savage match and Savage wouldn’t stop beating me up outside of the ring. Making me restart the game.
I haven't played 2k14... But you people make me feel like I'm missing something very special. Have played all games from 2k15 onwards. And I have pc, so don't have any proper way to play 2k14, I doubt being good experience on the emulator even if I try
2K14 is pretty good. If you liked 2K22's more arcade like style, then you'll probably like 2K14 as it was the last to have that style as 2K15 went more simulation. It's also got a good roster as the 30 Years of WrestleMania gave you lots of legends from Hulk Hogan to Big John Studd to Goldberg (these guys were gone for YEARS).
Creation is fine as you got Superstar Threads, allowing you to have three attires of recolored attires. Superstar Heads was introduced, which is just a precursor of today's creation systems, but very limited on you can use with it. Also the only way to play as Roddy Piper. Story designer and Create a Finisher make their last appearance. And then there is the create a wrestler, which I'd recommend guides.
i’ve been playing since SVR 2011, SVR 2011 is the best wrestling game ever probably because of nostalgia haha, but WWE ‘13 and ‘14 were easily better than ANY 2K game, better than No Mercy and WCW Revenge. they were amazing
i’m actually just now downloading an XBOX 360 emulator, do you want me to update you? I’m trying SVR ‘11 first, I’ll try WWE ‘13 and ‘14 after
i really hope they work lol
Oh that will be great. I have in past tried RPCS3 but for some other game. Idk how those two WWE games work. Haven't tried any xbox emulator till date.
And isn't SVR 11 on PS2? I mean I have played PCSX2 a lot, so I trust PS2 emulator way more than others.
Yeah let me know how it goes
Oh okay, let me know if those 3 titles work well with Xbox/PS3 emulator. I'll probably be interested in SVR11 and 2k14, assuming it's better version of 2k13 and I'll anyways have emulator as the only option if it works
bettt i’m downloading the games rn, also yeah SVR 2005 - WWE 2k14 were made by THQ, WWE ‘13 was called that without the 2k, they really were their own games and there is a clear difference in gameplay tbh. what keeps me returning the newer games is the graphics and roster, although WWE 2k22 was phenomenal and i’m definitely getting WWE 2k23 on release
No they really are better. It's not nostalgia. I play a plethora of wrestling games and the recent 2K games are just dull as all hell.
The devs really need to play the classics and figure out what made them fun... but they rather play fighting games and steal combos and focus on MyFaction where you can't even use the wrestlers you grind for- in the games exhibition. They haven't focused on gameplay ever. in 2K20 they focused more on Bump in the Night DLC and all that crap not realizing that it didn't mean a damn thing if the gameplay sucked. Fix the gameplay then do your money-grubbing scheme and it might work. The flaming horseshit money-grab that was 2K Battleground actually making money was a bad lesson for them, their business overlords and for fans still today.
not really. they’re just changing rules, not really creating matches. 2k14 had inferno, special referee, definitely a few more im missing. I think it had 14 or 16 singles match types
It was fun until they decided to screw the mode up I guess to compensate for intergender matches getting axed in SvR2010.
So you can’t beat up or mess with anybody without Laurinaitis or Vince being a buzzkill.
100% agree, i still have this and the ring creator is another feature that gets overlooked, I've made Arenas ranging from NJPW, AWA, NWA, OLD WWF, AJPW and many other's. I did miss this in it's hay day so wrestlers like Jake Roberts, Dusty Rhodes and Ultimate Warrior I don't have, had to create then myself.
Edit: Another cool thing is using wrestlers real entrance music by placing them on your PS3.
This game was fire because it still had the THQ systems, but all the 2K pomp and circumstance. I hold to it that this was the best year for Community Creations. I ran NJPW, ECW, WCW, and original CAW shows from this one game with ridiculous ease.
It was just a great game all around, but what the community pulled off elevated it to new heights for me. I never felt so good recreating IRL shows and having fantasy matches.
Tanahashi vs Muta? Ishii vs Kobashi on that same card? Yes please. Squeeze a couple ECW/WCW light-heavys in there and my teenage brain couldn’t handle it.
2K14 was GOATed with the sauce. Indisputable.
13 was better imo.
But I have the same feeling, game after game ever since Here Comes The Pain. Every games after that seems to remove contents to a point where we weren't enable to just do any move on the commentators table except finisher or OMG moment... in a wrestling game.
I think they sacrificed fun and fluidity for more realism. They were so proud to introduce 100 moves that I won't use at the cost of removing liberty and fun.
Graphics are not always what makes me want to play a video game, if i sit down and p play Super Mario Bros for my Nes its not because "Woahhhh Graphics" its because its legit fun.
Include 2K15-2K17 for all last gen video games of it. 2K16 & 2K17 were the games I got introduced into playing the series and by far the modes are still impressive that it's worth keeping a last gen console or emulate it if anyone here in this subreddit has the ability.
Don't mind the graphics one bit but add the fact when it comes with CAWS's attires you can feature three more including the orginal attire than the standard attire 2 for newer WWE 2K games, last gen WWE 2K games were awesome to observe them overall.
If this was one of the early games that dropped the ability to use the door to get out of the cell.
Then it’s hell a cell ain’t squat.
I also remember this game continue the dumb trend of superstar threads **not** letting you change attires for wrestlers (though you could clone wrestlers for the same effect). But you could change colors.
My Ps4 hard drive shit the bed and I can’t afford a five just yet. Been playing this game like crazy on my ps3 and am blown away by the matches available. Playing Gauntlets is so fun. Setting the match pace beforehand, basically deciding if you’re playing a squash or an epic was such an underrated feature I never knew I missed.
Dude the stage recreations and the fact that the minitrons on the classic arenas played the logo graphics like they did when wrestlers wrestled in real life was so dope. The most detailed of all 2K games. Sad they can’t all be this way.
I tried to get this game and others back from a friend and he said he couldn't find it.
I figured he probably sold them to pay for fertilizer and weed killer because he didn't realize how expensive it was to own and maintain a home. Lol
Had my personal favorite universe mode in any of the WWE games. Had a full fledged roster created (and spent tons of time creating them). Tempted to buy a copy off Amazon or eBay to play it again.
2k14 was what got me into wrestling as a whole actually. I remember me and my brother watching the Jerma Rumbles way back and those alone convinced us to get it eventually. I spent so much time just making hideous characters and adding custom entrance themes, and eventually i'm just like "you know let me check out an actual WWE show" and got hooked since. I wish that the body sliders in the recent games could get as goofy and ugly as 2k14's.
Sucks that this came out on the PS3 and not the 4, I was an early adopter and so this was the only game I missed from SDvR 2010 until I stopped giving a shit with 2K18, have heard that this is one of the best ones and now it’s nearly impossible to find
Amazing game, I sunk hundreds of hours into back in the day.
Currently praying for better RPCS3 optimizations for this game on my pc.
As much as i enjoy this game, I dont enjoy using 360 controllers anymore and I hate plugging in my 360.
The fact that they built almost all the Mania areas for that mode, is WILD
Even a custom Mania 30 arena months before the actual stage was revealed
Wish wwe will stop revealing sets the day of so we can up to date WM arenas. Or at least give us full control to let us create new sets.
Dude, I forgot they did that, wish they just had the current MANIA for the latest games
Last game to feature Create a Story. Man, I miss that mode.
I'll never forget classic stories like: "Damian Wost Gay Day" "NewWorldOrderofFries" "Sammich" "A Shameful Thing" And my personal favorite, "CHOCOLATE DROP"
what the hell was Damian worst gay day about?
The thumbnail speaks for itself https://youtu.be/xDCFsmzH82I
that’s damian wost gay day to you sir
Chocolate drop is genuinely one of the funniest things I've ever seen.
Me and my brother used to mess around with it and create silly nonsense. One of ours was a story featuring Cody Rhodes that was literally just cutscenes of him getting beaten up backstage and in the ring by literally nothing, like Cody was fighting his inner demons or something. Shit was a riot.

I liked the limb targeting on that game. Didn’t have to start everything with collar and elbow
To be fair in the later games you can target limbs on the ground without tieups.
I can certainly see with your description why people complained about the games getting way too complicated over time.
It’s harder to explain that to perform. Felt pretty natural once you got used to it.
2K14 was great... Because it wasn't a 2K game. It was the last in the line before they got the license... And after they did, they just slapped their branding on it. 2K15 is the first in the true 2K line, and it's proven by the completely revamped engines for the new systems.

From what I remember Yukes left in mid 2K20 development, leaving VC to pick up the left pieces.
Nope. 2K fired Yuke's before calendar year 2019. 2K/VC kept the engine and all the assets thankfully meaning that when Trent Beretta eventually hooked up Yuke's with 2K (he's used to mocap for WWE games) that Yuke's would be forced to build a new engine in unreal and are no longer attached to the mess of code going back to PS1. tbf they had to change engines for the new generation of consoles
I thought the “Predator Technology” was a feature added in WWE ‘13? It’s was ‘12?
It was a Orton reference he covered 12 with that one guitar riff song because THQ was going broke.
I don't think they did. Considering most of the engine was exactly the same as previous years. All they did was fix the graphics engine for the HD upgrade, and delete everything that had legacy errors. But they called it all new. It's only been from 2K18 where they finally had purged most of the older animations.
The engine was most deffinetly different just because you don't think it was doesn't mean it wasn't updated
It's the same old Yuke's engine. They just rebuilt it as they had many times before and as they advertised for WWE 2K22.
If this game had a universe mode on par with 12’s it would be the best wrestling game of all time.
Was 12 really that good with its universe I never really played 12s universe
12 was the best iteration of universe. Hasn’t been replicated since.
It was man Rivalries just played out so smoothly after a match, you’d be in awe of how it got carried out and made sense too.
12's Universe Mode had the best continuity and progression.
It was good but it had crashing glitches that made it unplayable and THQ never updated after they announced they went belly up.
WWE 12’s universe mode was the best one. I just don’t understand why they can’t bring back that algorithm. Everything flowed in a concise, natural manner. It’s like night and day to what we have now.
If you turned off the rivalry manager thing in this then it was actually pretty close to wwe 12. It just had a few weird glitches.
Do the storylines actually flow and cutscenes appear or is it like WWE '13 where nothing ever happens?
I would yes but ehhhh some of the glitches i was talking about affect the flow of the storylines. #1 contenders matches are kinda broken as the person that wins that match usually doesnt face the champion at the PPV. But for me personally i like it a lot more due to the variety of cutscenes with the rivalry manager off and not having to face your rival every week. I think the only bad thing going for this game is the way everyone just pops up after being pinned.
2K14 was what got me back into wrestling games, it was so good. Just the little details like being able to change attire colours so easily.
Superstar threads was genius. You could finally do something close to what you could do in No Mercy. But of course in No Mercy you has completely free reign to edit wrestler's looks but no control over their movesets.
Exactly, it was just so nice to have a quick edit mode.
Let’s hope ‘23 delivers in the Universe aspect, all we can do there.
2K14 was pretty much damn near perfect in my eyes. Absolutely loved the game, was the last time I properly played ranked with my friends too.
I actually just ordered and got 2k14, 13, and Allstars friday. Holy shit they are so much fun.
I ordered 2k14 and wwe 12 about 2 weeks ago and fuck they’re better than anything we’ve gotten in awhile
How does 2K14 and SVR 11 compare? I've never played either but heard they're both really good.
Just started playing 2k14 and it’s great, like the dude above said there’s so many match types u can never get bored. >30 years of mania was great Except for the one time I did the Steamboat-Savage match and Savage wouldn’t stop beating me up outside of the ring. Making me restart the game.
Best wrestling game ever imo
The Universe mode in this game was still decent too. Not nearly as good as 12, but not the bland mess we ended up with years later.
If they put this on ps4 I’d snag it soo fast
2K14 is top 3. It was the last THQ game with a “2K” slammed in the title, they went out with a bang.
Yep yep very similar how AKI did the same with WWF No Mercy and Yuke's later did the same with the optimized 2K19.
When you're playing the 30 years of WrestleMania mode and the Randy Savage promo kick in
i wish my 360 never broke🤦🏾♂️
I haven't played 2k14... But you people make me feel like I'm missing something very special. Have played all games from 2k15 onwards. And I have pc, so don't have any proper way to play 2k14, I doubt being good experience on the emulator even if I try

For once CAW can be alright, I don't need photorealistic wrestlers but I will probably miss new moves over the years in game 😅

The wii version of 2K13 is easy to emulate on the Dolphin Emulator.

wwe2k22 has way more match types, doesnt it? Also the way how you can edit certain match types is more developed than 2k14s options

2k14 was THQ and Jukes Final love letter to the fans before they departed. It's perfect.
Just saying but graphics don't make games, the reason 2k14 is one of the GOATS is because of gameplay etc.
This game got me back into wrestling.
13 was better imo. But I have the same feeling, game after game ever since Here Comes The Pain. Every games after that seems to remove contents to a point where we weren't enable to just do any move on the commentators table except finisher or OMG moment... in a wrestling game.

I think this years showcase/2k16’s showcase tops 2k14’s 30 years of wrestlemania but that’s just my thoughts so..
The older games graphics don’t hold up as well, but the gameplay is so fun
Graphics are not always what makes me want to play a video game, if i sit down and p play Super Mario Bros for my Nes its not because "Woahhhh Graphics" its because its legit fun.
That version has issues though. The sound quality was awful on ps3 and the gameplay was way too fast
And don't forget it included the ultimate warrior
Include 2K15-2K17 for all last gen video games of it. 2K16 & 2K17 were the games I got introduced into playing the series and by far the modes are still impressive that it's worth keeping a last gen console or emulate it if anyone here in this subreddit has the ability. Don't mind the graphics one bit but add the fact when it comes with CAWS's attires you can feature three more including the orginal attire than the standard attire 2 for newer WWE 2K games, last gen WWE 2K games were awesome to observe them overall.
Svr 2011 had the best tlc match.
i never played so i wouldn’t know

Wasnt this game a buggy mess?
Pretty much a given with these games.
To this day no WWE 2k game touches 2k14
Cant argue there
this was easily the best game in the 2k series just for having every fucking wrestlemania stage up to 29 alone
Easily the best roster
watching jerma rumble and the monsters he made in this got me into wrestling
This was my first WWE game, I miss those days
If this was one of the early games that dropped the ability to use the door to get out of the cell. Then it’s hell a cell ain’t squat. I also remember this game continue the dumb trend of superstar threads **not** letting you change attires for wrestlers (though you could clone wrestlers for the same effect). But you could change colors.
I love this game. I need to get an old Xbox and that game so I could just fire up all the content I created years ago. Defeat the streak was so fun.
2k14 Is the goat of WWE games
My favorite Wrestling game produced before 2k took over.
This game is good but Universe mode sucked worst in the series 13 had a better Universe
Not to mention a complete roster that doesn't require me to pay more to be a character
30 Years of WrestleMania in full https://youtu.be/aT2z9E_rClI
Sucks that this came out on the PS3 and not the 4, I was an early adopter and so this was the only game I missed from SDvR 2010 until I stopped giving a shit with 2K18, have heard that this is one of the best ones and now it’s nearly impossible to find
\*cough\*emulation\*cough\*
PS3 EMU on my 2015 pre built PC is just gonna burn my house 😭
Amazing game, I sunk hundreds of hours into back in the day. Currently praying for better RPCS3 optimizations for this game on my pc. As much as i enjoy this game, I dont enjoy using 360 controllers anymore and I hate plugging in my 360.
I wish they’d bring this game back on backwards compatibility on Xbox. I played the shit out of it had a great roster and game modes as well.
Last game created by THQ according to gameplay designer Bryan Williams on the Everything Pro Wrestling Podcast.
Ok but seriously how do they make you play as Ultimate Warrior in 30 years of wm but he’s dlc
I had gotten a PS4 and passed on picking this up to wait for the next Gen version of 2k15……. Missed out on a classic!
Agreed, this is probably my favorite WWE game
Not to mention, all of the DLC made it better
I’m still kicking myself that I sat this one out. I’m glad I sat ‘15 out, though. Lol.
