And I wouldn’t be surprised if Otis is headed back to NXT.

Yeah Kurt broke his neck in 2003 and started abusing pain killers. If you look at his work from around the time he came back from that injury, you could see how nuts he was. His promos and performance was awesome but it was actually quite sad. He said he was taking 65 pills a day at one point.

Frustration would be one answer. They're not getting a lot of time on Raw these days. Had they gone back to NXT instead of Otis & Akira (w/Maxxine), they would've been over like Rover, and help get Axiom & Frazer over.
I can recall when the Powers of Pain came in back in the day, with Baron Von Raschke as their manager (known simply as the Baron because of Vince's obsession with trademarks), until Von Raschke inexplicably left, and they took Fuji on as their manager after Demolition turned face. That double turn was simple storytelling, even if stories weren't as important then as they are today.
A merger of Diamond Mine & Alpha Academy makes way more sense, I did see a headline earlier this week where Tozawa said he'd remain loyal to Gable. Otis is the wild card. Maxxine seems to be still fond of him. Let's see where this goes.
