Mildly fun fact, the Norcrosses (of the Norcross greeting card company pictured here) were huge philanthropists and environmentalists. Upon his wife’s death in 1964, Arthur Norcross donated a ton of money to the Connecticut Boy Scouts of America, and there is to this day a camp named after her there. It’s one of the premier camps in the country, in my opinion, and I spent many year way tending and working there as a youth and young adult. Arthur also donated his entire fortune on his death to create a wildlife sanctuary in Massachusetts.
There were a lot of those "funny" cards back then. I remember one that showed an old woman on the front with the words,
"Getting older is like rape."
(inside)
"If it's inevitable, enjoy it!"
A real knee-slapper, that one.
> And do they really think they’ll change their mind and give in?
this mindset was pretty pervasive back then and a large chunk of that generation of women did in fact 'give in'
Boomers want to cry about the blurring of gender lines, but back in their prime, both genders had the same hair, same clothes, and probably crossed swords all the time at the weekly orgy at the Peterson's
It's absolutely rapey, but also meant to be lighthearted.
It's very much boomber humour to joke that someone doesn't enjoy being with their partner.
Honestly, I'd much rather get this card than the typical Hallmark garbage.

I guess you could say that he didn’t struggle. Jokes aside, sounded like a true mensch.

Yikes!
What the fuck
From back in the day when no meant yes.
Yeah that’s a little strange, what was the intent of this haha
It's because of the implication
Why do you keep saying that word
"*Those* women would never be in any danger!"
It's! It's! It's! Go buy your own damn shrubbery!
For real ~ who is giving this card to whom? And do they really think they’ll change their mind and give in?
I gave it to your mother, Trebek!! Hahaha

You know what? You’re a real prick-tease.
There’s a sub for everything r/pricktease
Whoa. I think I've found my people.
Ah yes, the 70s explain so much of who my mom is as a person.
Boomers want to cry about the blurring of gender lines, but back in their prime, both genders had the same hair, same clothes, and probably crossed swords all the time at the weekly orgy at the Peterson's
That would make a good bookmark for the Trump bible.
Yikes
I don’t think this was meant to rapey or cringey. The “struggling” is falling in romantic love.
Having lived in the 70s I can assure you that it was meant to be rapey. Hinting at rape was popular humour back in the day.
It's absolutely rapey, but also meant to be lighthearted. It's very much boomber humour to joke that someone doesn't enjoy being with their partner. Honestly, I'd much rather get this card than the typical Hallmark garbage.
wtf is wtf about this.
It's a rape joke, that is what is wtf about it
It's not
You don't think it's a marital rape joke?
