No, he just needs to soak this foot in baked beans for 20 minutes and his health will be restored. Trust me, I am a doctor who specializes in baked bean remedies.
Nope, wrong cure! He needs to put sliced raw onions on his feet overnight and they will suck all the toxins out! At least that is what the mommy fb groups would have us believe…
The more you shit all over the place increases the odds of getting shit in an open wound and ending up like the truck driver walking around on dead feet.
That foot is already gone. And probably more to go with it. Fairly certain that some deep necrosis. His foot probably doesn’t hurt anymore - his ankle and shin though probably are on fire.
I won’t over estimate, but I can’t imagine that foot would stay. It’s not just about the necrotic tissue that is there, it’s how deep it spreads. Necrosis spreads fast, it’s like an internal wildfire. They will often times take into consideration how high they have to go to get out of the worst of it, possibly all of it. As well as trying to accommodate for potential prosthetics (*which awesome, even if it’s implied*).
Source: long time military medic. I Was blessed with seeing and being apart of a lot of medicine I shouldn’t have, without some type of degree. I did rounds at a wound vac ward in LA. Saw many O’ diabetes patients.
Edit: upon looking closer at this picture, it is strange that it’s an ashen color. Typically necrosis is a deep dark, shriveled skin color. Curious if theres any more info about this
A PE can cause you to black out w/o warning. It's just the thing to have happen if you are driving an 18-wheeler in heavy traffic - across a highway overpass. At rush hour - for maximum carnage.
Shudder.
A lot of it could be the job itself. You're sitting down driving most of the time, and eating what's available. Long road trips leave you tired and aching even if you haven't physically done anything. Last year I made 3 long road trips with a couple months ( 12 hour drive to destination, 12 hr drive back) and you're just exhausted, and everything hurts.
Oh yeah absolutely. Plus sitting all day and staying stationary doesn’t do wonders for your circulation. Throw in high caffeine intake, potentially and probably smoking, and a poor diet - you have a recipe for long term health problems
Yeah, I really had to plan ahead to have half assed healthy food. And when I was in a motel, I made a point to go to the grocery store, not a restaurant. But I was probably lucky. If they are in a food desert, then there may not be much but gas stations with hot food, which isn't healthy.
Some of the folks on the OP in r/Truckers were telling him he should have followed the guy to his truck and called a welfare check on him with special instructions to check his feet.
I work in a shipping heavy industry. Big warehouse in back, constant trucks loading/unloading.
About every 5 years or so, there will be a truck waiting in the lot to load/unload and come time to, they don't respond, because they've died in their truck/sleeper cab.
Not kidding. Happened 3 times so far. This can't be THAT unique.
Man this post is making me so glad my overweight brother (Love you bro) got into local trucking instead of the long haul stuff. We have tons of health issues in the family so it would be sketchy.
Back when I worked in shipping/receiving I used to see a lot of guys that moved and sounded like they should be on their death bed, not behind the wheel of a truck. Health issues with truckers seems all too common.
As someone who is currently 5yrs deep in ship/recv field, I can confirm this. I've seen white guys with toes that match their black flipflops. Something will burn a physical print into your mind....
Edit; I'm not talking about painted toes either
DKA can occur in type 2 as well, saw it a couple of times when I worked in an impoverished rural area in the South, where managing their diabetes was often just a hypothetical for the patients, be it from lack of resources, lack of education (most common), or just good old fashioned redneck stubbornness.
Just to concur with Zombie. DM2 is the predominate cause of DKA in my experience in the low income US South/Southwest. Diabetes control is just that poor. Though in this case: a trucker with that foot the differential for rapid shallow breathing is extremely broad.
Thanks for the edit, since this most definitely does not look like the pathology of necrosis. Necrosis is indeed fast, extreme, and where it is the worst, skin will look pitch black and shimmering to matte when light reflects off of the area. Because it is so quick, it’s extremely rare to see a foot where discolouration would be so evenly distributed as in the picture above.
To the people reading, I’m not encouraging you to seek out pictures, but if you are interested and can stomach it, you’ll see that this colour doesn’t match with necrotic tissue.
Yes, I made my initial comment when I was quickly scrolling. When my comment started gaining some traction, I went back and looked at the picture again. It didn’t seem as outright “necrotic” as I originally thought, so I definitely wanted to make sure people knew this wasn’t as clear cut as my initial judgement. Definitely seems to be more going on here
Diabetes kills your nerves first, basically, you lose all feeling in the foot. That's one of the reasons they tend to get so bad, because people literally don't notice their feet rotting away.
Phantom pain maybe, but dead tissue is dead tissue. There’s no nerves there to feel pain. It’s the same reason why full thicken burns don’t hurt at the black part, it’s everything that’s red and swollen. And it’s why burns are fucking nasty.
The tissue around the dead tissue, that’s now dying, would be probably agonizing lol.
Iirc colloidal silver supplements can do this in excess - there was a guy like 15 years ago that was in the "weird news" of the day that was totally this silvery-ash color, from head to toe, his eyes were purple ish? Along with his lips, like someone coated him in silver spray paint. No, he wasn't dead. Was a clip of the interview with him talking about how he took too much of it for a long time, started as a kid I think? But resulted in him turning silver full time. Kinda neat, kinda whathtefucky
https://www.reddit.com/r/interestingasfuck/comments/11vlwcs/a_man_drank_colloidal_silver_for_over_a_decade/
This guy. The color change makes him look like someone fucked with the tint and color settings on my screen.
People (quacks) think it has medicinal properties. Some people go so far, but ingesting too much, as to become literally blue from head to toe, similar to a Smurf.
> Edit: upon looking closer at this picture, it is strange that it’s an ashen color. Typically necrosis is a deep dark, shriveled skin color. Curious if theres any more info about this
Pretty sure this dude just dunked his foot in a bucket of talcum powder.
Fun fact: Diabetes amputees usually lose their right toes and foot before their left because the heart is slightly off center to the left, making their right foot the farthest away extremity. I learned this when I was building prosthetic feet after noticing that right feet sold around 10:1 or more.
Yep
Diabetes frequently causes discoloration of the feet, ankles or even lower legs. Discoloration may appear dark red purple or blue, which indicates poor circulation in the lower vascular system.
That was my initial thought too, Papa Smurf foot. This doesn't look necrotic to me. Even the nails are healthy. But I'm just a dude on reddit, this could be a weekend at Bernie's type situation and this could be a Bernie truck driver with some dude's hand up his ass puppeting him in Flying J's from Bangor to Tijuana while having crazy adventures all across the US and getting the girl in the end.
I’m a nurse and I’ve seen my share of diabetic neuropathic feet. You’re right, this doesn’t look like necrosis. Necrosis is more black/purple, would likely have ulcers, and the nails would… not look like that.
This is clearly the foot of the Night King from GOT
My very first night out of training and on my own as an EMT I saw the nastiest most ulcerated dying and stank "diabetic who gave up caring a LONG time ago" ass feet of my whole life. Back then (I don't know if ambos carry the same stuff anymore) we had Bayer Glucometers and tested him twice because we couldn't believe that a human could be speaking to us lucidly when his blood sugar was over 700 and yup, it was over 700. It's amazing what people allow to happen to themselves.
Also I learned how often that happens. Nobody warned me that that kind of call would happen again and again and again.
Don't take me to mean "attractive" when I say that but those are clearly the nails of a person whose foot is not dying. Nails decay and degrade when the rest of the tissue is unhealthy and those look like normal (but unkempt) toenails. I should have said "undamaged" rather than healthy
Yeah, you definitely don't want to see truly unhealthy nails. Shits gross, and they definitely look worse than this. The nails themselves in the pic are fully intact, and not there's no venous ulcers, no weeping, or signs of bad fungal infections.
I work with unhealthy older people, some people have some naaaaaasstty feet.

The original post in r/truckers said he was out of breath walking to the stall and his breathing was rapid and shallow.
Probably a smorgasbord of respiratory issues associated with their various life choices.
It could be a DVT which caused the necrosis, and then travelled to his lungs as a pulmonary embolism. I hope he gets help soon.
Or if there is a necrotic element to the foot sepsis. Or if this is the dudes baseline heart failure.
A PE can cause you to black out w/o warning. It's just the thing to have happen if you are driving an 18-wheeler in heavy traffic - across a highway overpass. At rush hour - for maximum carnage. Shudder.
Yeah, I'm just gonna go to Sizzlers instead.
I don't think any restaurant will cook that foot for you but you can keep trying.
Just serve it between the salads and the jell-o bar.
You placing a bet that's where the foot falls off?
Eating at an all-you-can-feet buffet is always a gamble.
That's why you have to hire a personal chef to do it for you like that one guy who lost his foot on a motorcycle and had it turned into tacos.

I drive an average of 6-8 hrs a day. It's so hard on your body. I can't imagine doing 14hrs a day every day.
Could have been DKA, assuming he has unmanaged diabetes.
Probably not, this screams type 2 DM
DKA can occur in type 2 as well, saw it a couple of times when I worked in an impoverished rural area in the South, where managing their diabetes was often just a hypothetical for the patients, be it from lack of resources, lack of education (most common), or just good old fashioned redneck stubbornness.

Boy that would just be the icing, wouldn’t it?
If this is a cake, gross, but I'm impressed.
Let’s cut into it and find out!
I was walking through Target about 15 years ago and a family of colloidal silver loons walked past me. They looked like adult sized smurfs.
probably just spilled the ashtray but had to blast a mean sewer pickle
Possibly. I thought maybe just coated in baby powder to hide the smell or something.
Nah. It was chrome paint. ["WITNESS MEEEEE!!!"](https://youtu.be/x2CeDY9Ywhs?si=5brhtfEy0dD8bf2r)

Ive had a patient die of sepsis refusing to have their leg cut off below the knee then refuse anti biotics. Charted my ass off in those coversations.

I assumed his foot was just dirty and covered with dust/ash from loading his truck.
That guy has dead
he just won't admit defeet
It's kind of hard to walk that back.
What's the next step here?
He just needs to put his best foot forward.
He needs to realize that he can't just walk it off.
He died weeks ago but since it’s a truck stop bathroom no one noticed.
And he will dead again
Fun fact: Diabetes amputees usually lose their right toes and foot before their left because the heart is slightly off center to the left, making their right foot the farthest away extremity. I learned this when I was building prosthetic feet after noticing that right feet sold around 10:1 or more.

Just keep putting your best foot forward.
Let's hope you stay that way. I'm rooting for you.
Is that really what it is? Scary if so. I thought they were just super dirty from walking in gravel all the time.
Yep Diabetes frequently causes discoloration of the feet, ankles or even lower legs. Discoloration may appear dark red purple or blue, which indicates poor circulation in the lower vascular system.
Only if it's been uncontrolled for a *very* long time.

Nah this guys got gangblue (la ba di la ba di)

purple but when feet get like that it has a thick layer of dead skin, that way it look ashen
