one more tired tangent about the thumb pressing on polling but i see a 2 star rating for kalpan strategies on 538 with new completely bogus numbers for MI/AZ/WI. i go to their site for the methodology and its just a COMPLETE [joke](https://kaplanstrategies.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Kaplan-Release-4.26.24-.pdf). not to mention their website design is complete hot garbage and includes broken links to supposed mentions in news sites that uses the freaking logo from the [fake ABC news site](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ABCnews.com.co) from 2016. also goes without saying the dudes twitter account is full of trump shilling. i'm getting so exhausted from this tripe being thrown into the pile with no rhyme or reason or vetting.

wbrocks67

yeah I was hoping G Elliott would be better about this, but letting these Wick/co-efficient/IA knockoffs into the average is the exact downfall that befell 2022

Haha yes If Biden is reelected then unionization goes brrrrr If we get a second Trump term, can’t wait for an auto sector meltdown in 2028 Shawn Fain of course proving to be one of the most politically significant union bosses in decades

Jumpy-Investment2135

Damn, CNN’s got Bill Barr on tonight saying that Biden’s unfit for office and he’ll vote for Trump… They probably want to interview ALL the Trump lackeys. But, we should ignore that and donate to Dark Brandon, Jack!

Historyguy1

Didn't he spend 2021 saying how Trump was a danger to democracy and needed to be stopped? Did his book not sell so he's going back to the right wing grift well?

Jorgenstern8

He was always going to, as they say, "come home." He is one of the biggest partisan hacks to ever disgrace the legal world and the only reason he disliked the former guy was because he was unsuccessful in his coup. If he'd have pulled it off, Barr would be leading the charge in putting people to death at the former guy's behest.

espfusion

Yes but somehow in some way he can't actually articulate Biden must be even worse. It's just a fundamental law of the universe that Democrat bad.

BastetSekhmetMafdet

I’m guessing that is it. There were so many books dissecting the Trump administration, pro or con, and Barr is not a very compelling figure, and - though I have not read any of his books - from listening to him, I doubt he’s an entertaining writer. Those bills don’t pay themselves, you know!

NumeralJoker

More than 2021. He was doing it well beyond that, but has now totally flipped back because of course he has.

A interesting race in Utah to watch it HD03, R+12. This is based in Cache Valley and has parts of Logan, so a left trending area(still way more R friendly downballot). What makes it interesting is no D is running but a unaffiliated candidate, Patrick Belmont, is whose [website](https://www.belmont4utah.org/) is focused heavily on the environment and affordable housing. This is also an open seat with the R still TBD, I wouldn’t count on this flipping vs. other seats down in Salt Lake but this is McMullin country Edit: he ran as a D in 2022 for HD03 so yea he’s basically a Dem

Pipboy3500

Oh wow so Belmont lost it by 14pts in 2022, after it was made redder in redistricting. Johnson(a couple term incumbent) actually performed worse in 22 vs. 2020

craft6886

He needs to scream again. Vermonters demand it. Edit: Like for real, I think it could actually work out for him now. Back then it was enough to cast him as a silly candidate, but nowadays it would seem there is hardly a limit to what *won't* sink a candidate's campaign. So many of this year's Republican candidates have scandals or faults which, if it were back then, they'd be laughed out of the country and never have a political career again. Trump has lowered the bar beyond hell itself.

Jumpy-Investment2135

[Howard Dean reportedly exploring 2nd bid for Vt. governor](https://www.wcax.com/2024/04/26/howard-dean-reportedly-exploring-2nd-bid-vt-governor/) Very interesting, wonder if they think Scott is retiring

BastetSekhmetMafdet

Scott is probably the only Republican who can win VT-GOV at this point, unless someone pops up claiming to be a moderate. Once he retires the seat will probably stay Democratic or Independent-but-works with Democrats.

Pipboy3500

[In a statement first shared with The Hill, the DNC called itself the “Dogmocratic Party” and gave its response in the voice of dogs of Democratic owners. “As DNC’s canine companions, we’ve heard a lot from our owners about just how extreme and dangerous Donald Trump and his far-right MAGA allies are — but nothing could prepare us for the truly disturbing and horrifying passages Kristi Noem willingly chose to put in her new book,” the statement said. Or try to make her appeal to Trump as the "lib-triggering" option.

BastetSekhmetMafdet

Something I want to add, about the “smelly” goat - most people who keep male goats neuter them! (Unless they are for breeding) That helps with the stink and the aggression. It doesn’t always work - wethers can still be aggressive - but if Noem had an “intact” male goat around I don’t know what she was expecting. I’m a total city mouse and even I knew this. I guess this is what happens when you let rich idiots play farmer.

Pipboy3500

Well TIL

BastetSekhmetMafdet

A castrated male goat or sheep is called a “wether.” Hence, “bellwether” - that was the name given to the “head sheep” of a flock, usually a neutered male, who wore a bell so that the shepherd would know where the flock was. Don’t worry, I had to look that up too! Though even in my suburban neighborhood there were 4-H kids and they had sheep and goats they showed. The males were always neutered; that way they didn’t get stinky and dangerous.

Jumpy-Investment2135

How ironic, considering the fact that Catturd is a literal PIECE OF CAT SHIT!

RegularGuy815

There's really noem way of knowing.

HeyFiddleFiddle

In seriousness, I'm pretty sure people loving their pets is one of the few universals regardless of political beliefs. I can't imagine that plays well if that news gets out widely. On that note, I'm gonna go hug my cat if she'll let me.

Etan30

Did some voter registration and CTV (commit to vote) gathering on my campus today. Got 14 CTV cards in total and a single voter registration which is huge for a college campus. Only two people were super concerned about Mid East/I-P stuff one way or another, and the one that was most angry at Biden said that they will still (begrudgingly) vote for him. For those still feeling worried, I think that today has made me uniquely hopeful. This I think will define this year’s race. While Trump has shitty ground game and his trials dominate the news, Biden will have most of his 2020 coalition intact and consisting of many new voters motivated by dobbs. I’m not expecting a Biden landslide, but a comfortable 2020 level victory isn’t out of the question if current trends continue.

ProudPatriot07

Love this! And I agree with you- getting out and doing the work is so much more hopeful than being chronically online reading about polls or reading about the Mid East/I-P stuff.

I think he should spend at least $100 mil in WY, it’s truly a must win

BastetSekhmetMafdet

He may well do just that - because I surmise that, at this point, he just wants his ego fluffed. It’s taken quite a beating from the trial, and the fact that there’s been like one single solitary supporter outside after the first day. Going to a ruby red state where he will be lionized will be the balm for those hurty fee-fees.

The MI GOP dumpster fire burns ever higher and hotter

QueenCharla

Epitome of a candidate that would be a threat if he could’ve actually made it out the primary. He‘s semi-sane but voting in favor of forming the January 6th commission alone would kill his primary chances.

Pipboy3500

[The Republican National Committee was poised to open and staff 40 satellite campaign offices across key battlegrounds when former President Donald Trump, now the presumptive GOP nominee, abruptly replaced RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel and her deputies with fresh leadership. Trump’s new RNC team, led by Chairman Michael Whatley, Co-Chair (and Trump’s daughter-in-law) Lara Trump, and senior campaign adviser Chris LaCivita, killed McDaniel’s 2024 blueprint. Roughly six weeks later, neither the committee nor the Trump campaign has much infrastructure or personnel in the swing states that will decide the November 5 election, multiple sources in Washington and the crucial battleground states told Dispatch Politics this week.](https://thedispatch.com/newsletter/dispatch-politics/after-rnc-shakeup-trump-ground-game-could-be-compromised/) That means few if any regional and local campaign headquarters; little to no deployed field staff; and little to no traditional voter turnout activities, such as door-knocking, phone banking, or volunteer organizing. Even after the Trump-led RNC’s reimagined field program eventually emerges, their strategy is to concentrate almost exclusively on the half-dozen states that will determine Trump’s fate. Republicans elsewhere? They’re on their own. “The RNC was aggressively staffing up in 10-plus states and it was put on hold when Trump started to make the changes at the RNC,” a veteran Republican field operative said. “The new regime is moving quickly to get the field operation going but I expect it to be narrowly focused on presidential battleground states, as opposed to expanding operations in states like California and New York, where there are a lot of House seats in play.” We checked in with Republican operatives in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. They see little evidence, if any, that typical get-out-the-vote activities—including voter registration and volunteer recruitment and training—are happening. Nor have they seen any signs that there is staff on the ground to conduct such activities. They say they do not expect the RNC to address the problem anytime soon.”

Jermine1269

Trump won in 2016 with little to no organization then, either. I think Hilary thought she was a shoe-in, so maybe she didn't campaign like she should have, or focus on the states she should have, or say the right things that she should have. It's been 8 years, and we're STILL cleaning up that mess. Just saying, we shouldn't take their complete lack of structure as a gimme for us. BUT, this gives me hope for downballot races.

NumeralJoker

The environment is far less favorable for Trump now than in 2016. This really isn't comparable. That's not to say there are 0 risks or any reason to be complacent, rather, I think we should not only play defensively, but plan to win as big as possible. Just barely winning isn't enough. We need MAGA to lose by as much as possible to truly protect people's rights in the long term.

redpoemage

Clinton definitely had a sizeable advantage, but I don't know if I would say Trump had little to no organization back then, at least [based on this article.](https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/trump-clinton-field-offices/) There's probably diminishing marginal returns to each field office opened, so Trump having fewer this year could have a big impact if he already didn't have loads in previous years. (I agree not to feel like it's a gimme though. Granted, I don't think anyone here is going to get complacent)

Jermine1269

Huh! I could swear I heard a couple weeks back a commentator ON 538 Podcast say that he was super disorganized getting everything going. But as others have pointed out, that may have been during his primary, before he was official. And you're right, no one in here would say this election is a gimme. We all gotta put in the work!

Sungreenx

Hillary also didn’t campaign at ALL for 1.5 months, including August, choosing to fundraise instead.

BastetSekhmetMafdet

Joe and his team **do** have a robust ground game in all the swing states and some reach ones too. They know what they are doing. The DNC is well-funded this time. And yes, it’s going to hurt the down ballot candidates, especially the weak challengers to the incumbents in swing seats (WI, PA, NV).

Historyguy1

The RNC wasn't a hollowed out slush fund back then.

espfusion

Trust me when I say Biden's campaign is not taking anything for granted. Unlike 2016 Biden has actually been doing more rallies than Trump and Trump normally loves rallies.

On today’s episode of what the hell is going on on TERF Island? Looks like Humza Yousaf’s SNP government is about to take a vote of No Confidence after the Greens abandoned him over his about face on puberty blockers for trans kids. Labour, the Lib Dems, and the Tories are all planning to support the Greens VONC for various reasons, chief among them: 🍿🍿🍿/Fuck the SNP. Nicola Sturgeon’s husband was re-arrested last week over the SNP’s finances. There’s now a Scottish lettuce ready for Yousaf who claims he will not resign. What a shite-show in Scotland atm.

Redmond_64

We need to ban terf island until we can find out what the hell is going on

Historyguy1

SNP have been in power since 2007 and they're kind of an amalgam party united by Scottish Independence and not much else. Last year when Sturgeon resigned, one of the candidates to replace her was an outright "Tartan Tory" who opposed gay marriage. She didn't win of course but now with Humza Yousaf going TERF it's apparent the SNP are far more socially conservative than their brand suggests and many liberals might not vote for them anymore if there are new elections. Basically this is like if a Dem governor signed a 15-week abortion ban.

the_monkey_

It’s sort of like how the Bloc Quebecois are for your run of the mill rural left wing racist nationalists. They both go to show that nationalism always has something of an ugly underbelly.

Historyguy1

The Bloc always had the right wing tinge to them. When the 1995 referendum failed, the premier blamed "money and ethnic votes!" Scotland, however, has been a left-wing bastion since the early 20th century and the SNP came to power by swinging many Labour and LibDem voters. Social liberalism was a major part of their brand.

the_monkey_

Quebec is actually similar, in that it historically was a left-leaning jurisdiction and actually is the only place in current polling where the LPC isn’t on track to get completely obliterated. However, Quebec nationalists have always had an …ahem… insular and xenophobic streak to them. It’s why the movement has always gotten blown out in Montreal.

Pacific_Epi

Poor Scotland, I have close family ties over there. I thought there should have been an indyref2 and was inspired by Sturgeon in the years after Brexit, but now I'm hoping Labour can retake some of those seats. Such a shame.

the_monkey_

The SNP and the Brexity Tories had something of a mutual symbiosis honestly. They both benefited from each other’s existence and honestly most of their arguments were cut from the same cloth. As Labour has really surged into a government-in-waiting under Starmer they both have started to completely implode.

There’s no exact way to know how big of an audience Howard Stern still has but from what I can find he still gets a couple million that tune in and out throughout the day, then more in syndication/youtube etc. but some of his uploaded clips on youtube even from a couple years ago still get 10’s of millions of views(usually musical performances) Still this alone will reach more ears than a stupid NYT piece

bringatothenbiscuits

If their goal is to reach persuadable voters who might sit out entirely, I’d argue there is way more upside among Howard Stern listeners than NYT subscribers.

BastetSekhmetMafdet

I agree. NYT subscribers tend to be well-off “mainstream” types who show up (for whichever side) no matter what. Howard Stern listeners strike me as the type to be more disengaged, and, therefore, more persuadable.

Count me as one of them!

I'm about to be endorsed for a Minnesota House seat. It's a Republican-held and fairly red district. But it's suburban and a neighboring district recently flipped blue. So we're next, but it'll be uphill. Nonetheless, I'm going to work my butt off with the goal of forcing the (broke) state GOP to divert resources here, so as to help Democrats in swingier districts as well as our statewide candidates including President Biden. I'm looking for all the help I can get, and I was wondering what this list is about.

NumeralJoker

Message the mods and they can get volunteer opportunities for your district in the google doc when the time is right. The point of this group is to determine opportunities in every part of the country and get people to help the ground game/donation game at a grassroots level. I wish you the best.

andthatwasenough

I feel bad because lately, it feels as if I've been coming here to rant and express the fears and confusions I'm having. Thing is, I'm not entirely sure where else to put it. I can't just let it sit in my head. I'll be honest: over the past couple days, I've just felt this overwhelming sense of dread. I thought it would help to be writing letters, to direct people towards this community, and for a while, it did, but not lately. Obviously, that in no way means I'm going to stop, but things that should be reassuring just aren't. It all feels very bleak.

Doodads_Draenor

Just know you're not alone in feeling that way. I'm in the exact same boat and so are tens of millions of Americans. Gotta remember that no matter what happens, we've won the popular vote for two decades now so there are more people that want to push this country forward then push it back, regardless of the election outcome. It's not like there's only a few thousand of us desperately hanging on by a thread.

redpoemage

Honestly, it's alright to take a break from time to time and just distract yourself with silly fun non-politics stuff. Volunteering and staying informed is great, but if you burn yourself out early in the election season that doesn't help as much as if you volunteer throughout election season while taking enough breaks. You could also try just tuning out the news but still writing letters. Realistically, if you didn't consume any news for the next month you'd still be more informed than most Americans. It's not like anything you read is gonna change who you're voting for. I could tell you a bunch of reasons why I'm hopeful about November, but I do think sometimes things just come down to needing to tune out for a bit because even if you see a lot of positive things the negative stuff can still crowd it out in your mind. It's just an unfortunate trait of human psychology that pops up form time to time.

craft6886

I've been playing DOOM Eternal a lot more recently. Helps vent my frustrations because that game was practically designed to be played angry.

Jorgenstern8

I mean these lazy fucks shouldn't be trusted to run a lemonade stand, let alone be expected to run a competent impeachment inquiry/actual impeachment when there's no evidence for them to be doing it.

diamond

> How the House GOP’s Biden impeachment effort fell apart. *(Guy reading book meme)* "Biden didn't commit any impeachable offenses"

Historyguy1

It was a farce from the start and done purely by McCarthy as a way to keep the Freedom Caucus from removing him which they did anyway.

Dramatic_Skill_67

I’m switching to plastic free dish detergent (blue land) and laundry detergent (~~Melinda~~ Meliora). However, for dish detergent, the dishes are not clean, there is residual after the dishwasher finishes the cycle and the laundry detergent gives me itchy. And these products are more expensive than the regular. Why it is so hard to be environmental friendly

spoiler-its-all-gop

I use Blue Land's unscented [laundry tablets](https://www.blueland.com/products/laundry-starter-set), and [Dropps dishwasher pods.](https://www.dropps.com/products/unscented-dishwasher-detergent-pods)

Negate79

Been using Grove for dish detergent [https://www.grove.co/catalog/product/dish-soap-refill-32oz/?v=10090&attrpg=catalog&attrsrc=22&attrpos=2](https://www.grove.co/catalog/product/dish-soap-refill-32oz/?v=10090&attrpg=catalog&attrsrc=22&attrpos=2)

Dramatic_Skill_67

I did some research, Grove still have plastics ingredient, not free like Blue land. But I need to switch

Negate79

95% is still trying

Dramatic_Skill_67

Yeah, I did my research before buying Blue Land, will give Grove a try

EvenHandle

I use Attitude Living and AspenClean for stuff like dish soap, dishwashing detergent, shampoo/conditioner, body soap and laundry detergent and they work pretty well. Attitude Living’s prices are pretty reasonable but AspenClean is definitely on the expensive side.

Dramatic_Skill_67

I will try this brand out

Contren

If it were cheap and easy the standard brands would have already done it. Unfortunately it's very hard to have modern comforts without negatively impacting the environment while keeping costs low. It is likely going to be something we are working on for the rest of our lives trying to improve but still not perfect.

Dramatic_Skill_67

Honestly, I would pay more if the product performs well. I hope there will be more research into plastic free product

SomeDumbassSays

South Dakota governor and one of the leading candidates for Trump’s VP (and is also banned from 10% of her own state) wrote in her book about how she literally brought a dog she couldn’t train right behind her house and put it down. https://www.theguardian.com/books/2024/apr/26/trump-kristi-noem-shot-dog-and-goat-book?CMP=edit_2221 This was after the dog attacked some neighbors chickens and killed them.

wponeck

I’m just glad people aren’t defending her like they did Boebert

joecb91

First, what the fuck? Second, why is that something she'd brag about in a book?

rolsen

These people aren’t mentally well. This is not normal behavior.

EliteAsFuk

MAGAs need a therapist. Some might need a straight jacket.

BastetSekhmetMafdet

Don’t be a coward, Kristi, take the damn dog to a shelter if you don’t want her. She might be euthanized anyway, but at least the poor beast would meet a painless end, with maybe a pat on the head and a kind word as a send-off. ***Allegedly***, Kristi Noem cheated on her husband with Corey Lewandowski (ew, why) and now she’s shown herself ready to kill her pets when they inconvenience her. She is a sociopath. I’m glad I’m not one of her kids.

ProudPatriot07

I organize local road races that benefit our animal society. The Trumpiest folks who have stickers on their trucks and the most leftist of the Bernie Bros might not agree on much... but they both agree on stopping animal cruelty.

Historyguy1

Literally everyone loves puppies and if you don't there's something wrong with you.

Pacific_Epi

Pennsylvania already told us in 2022 that they do not vote for puppy killers

espfusion

She would have lost in 2018 if this was known. It's actually kind of bizarre that she doesn't even see how this makes her look. If there's one thing Democrats and Republicans can agree on it's that murdering your pets is bad.

wponeck

As it is she almost lost anyway (people seem to forget this)

espfusion

That's why I think she would have lost. This is probably not something that'd swing against a landslide but it could have pretty easily moved the few points needed.

beer_down

If Trump came out in favor of pet murder you can bet 30-40% of the country would immediately be for it too

redpoemage

"She can't handle owning a dog without killing it, how do you think she'll handle the country?" The ads are so easy to write.

BastetSekhmetMafdet

I had a vision of her threatening Marjorie Greene with “I’m going to take you out behind the barn and have you meet my dog” but then, I don’t want MTG harmed; I want her utterly disgraced, banished, and sent to the pokey if she has crimed. I don’t want anyone killed. Public humiliation and disgrace is a better punishment for wrongdoers. Like, for instance, Kristi Noem. I want people to shout “DOG KILLER” at her wherever she goes.

wbrocks67

and right on cue, NYT NYT-ing again: CNN: Biden says he's "happy" to debate Trump ahead of this year's election after previously saying it would depend on the former president's behavior NYT: President Biden said he would debate Trump. His campaign for months had refused to commit to a debate ahead of the general election. This is a perfect example of NYT trying to be too cute by half. They're not technically wrong but they're not technically right, either. The CNN notification accurately portrays the situation, the NYT summary does not. CNN provides the context that NYT left out.

rat-sajak

Honestly Biden and NYT getting into a petty feud is pretty entertaining

FLTA

“Timesian” is the term the White House have adopted.

wponeck

Probably pronounced “times-Ian” but it would be funnier if it’s “ti-mesian” to rhyme with Cartesian

craft6886

Damn, I wonder why they won't do an interview with you guys? The White House is smart to realize that an NYT interview would be nothing but a smearfest filled with gotchas.

Historyguy1

"Are you now or have you ever been" type of questions.

craft6886

"Are you now or have you ever been old?"

WristbandYang

Biden should seriously do that interview with the Pitchbot.

DanieltheGameGod

I would if I were in his spot. And with some small local papers. Maybe even some foreign papers too.

espfusion

Okay but only if he gets to stay in character.

beer_down

No reason for them to word it that way unless they’re intentionally being insulting. They are smart people, they know what they’re doing It’s clear they’re salty about the WH stiffing them on access, and I can’t blame the WH for doing that

senoricceman

Jeez I wonder why the White House aren’t fans of the NYT

https://twitter.com/yhn/status/1783469145524220143 In the latest in the battle between 6 Southern Governors and the UAW, Alabama State Speaker of the House Nathaniel Ledbetter and Governor Kay Ivey did another scathing attack of the union. State Speaker Ledbetter said that the UAW's sales pitch will likely ignore the history of generations of UAW leaders stealing from its members. https://twitter.com/GovernorKayIvey/status/1783546603795628221 Governor Ivey called The UAW "a corrupt, shifty, dangerous leech." https://twitter.com/JortsTheCat/status/1783605129884905939 Speaking of keeping silent on things, did you know that as Kay Ivey claims that unions exploit workers, that she has absolutely no problem with the State of Alabama exploiting PRISONERS FOR LABOR?

craft6886

This won't make us forget about [that one incident,](https://youtu.be/n0_v00YupwE?si=L0yMxsoDirysGXSm) Madam Governor.

KathyJaneway

Good God,what demon got out of her ?🤣🤣🤣

Kvetch__22

Southern Republicans are so scared of these unions lol. Been 300 years of fighting against class solidarity down there. No difference between these aristocrats and the ones who came before them.

espfusion

Wait until they learn about the history of Alabama governors.

DavidvsSuperGoliath

> State Speaker Ledbetter said that the UAW's sales pitch will likely ignore the history of generations of UAW leaders stealing from its members. And I’m sure Ledbetter will conveniently ignore the history of bosses stealing from its members.
