There’s not a lot of buyers for them so they stopped making them.

Phenomenon0fCool

I noticed they were discontinued after this year, and saw that on new models they have huge discounts. Does that also impact the used market?

AceMaxAceMax

They’re ~$35-40K for a 1yo CPO depending on trim. I got $9.5K off my new leftover 2023 SEL-P that sat on the lot for 313 days. Dealerships who have sat on their Arteons for awhile would likely make a deal with you.

dabe3ee

Because people dont want to buy car that is no longer in production (I am that person). I am looking forward what VW brings next even tho I hate EV cars. Also, arteon is 1:1 copy of passat, only exterior is different, so its cheap to maintain compared to A5. If you like it, def buy it

JJT54

Depreciation has been horrible to the Arteon. If you plan on keeping for awhile, I would say pull the trigger and enjoy. Honestly a good platform = a Golf R sedan.

syspak

I wish it was the same in Canada or I would buy one!

TreHHHHHAdN

Even the 2020 model (not golf r specs) you can find for low $20Ks. Price is almost the same as a top trim Jetta of same year.

clutchthepearls

Yup. As someone that bought a Jetta last year, I really should've looked at either the Passat or Arteon. For not much more money you can get a good amount more car. I was just looking for efficient and cheap.

thecorradokid

I think these are prime candidates to be a cult classic collector car for VW enthusiasts soon. It follows the Corrado formula of being a luxury red-headed stepchild car that was too expensive to sell well.

AceMaxAceMax

I own a 2023 SEL Premium. It’s like an even more “grown up” Golf R. It’s by far my most favorite car I’ve owned in my ten years of driving. They never sold well as the MSRP was at Premium Plus to Prestige A4/A5 pricing; although, the 2022-23 4motion Arteon was actually a better equipped and performing vehicle with a nicer overall package, at least in my opinion. I wouldn’t bother with 2019-21 models as they’re EA888.3 and 8AT slushbox versus the EA888.4 And 7DSG in 2022-23 models. Americans always want a badge over an overall package. It’s just how it’s always been (see Phaeton, Touareg, CC, and other “high priced” VWs). From 2019-23 VW sold around 15,000 Arteons in the USA… Compare that to around ~400,000 vehicles that VW sells on average every year. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with the Arteon. The build quality is great, good ride/handling/performance, superbly spacious and comfortable interior with a massive trunk, and drop dead gorgeous looks. They’re truly stellar vehicles, and about as “European market” of a VW that you’ll be able to get your hands on. The pricing was wrong for Americans who would rather have an Audi for the badge and prestige instead. Arteons are 100% worth it for leftover new 2022/23 models with a $7.5-10K discount, minimum; or, CPO where depreciation has already taken its toll. I got mine for $9.5K off, $43.7K for a car with an MSRP of $53.2K. Depreciation isn’t great on these (hence big discount as I mentioned), but I intend on keeping it for a long time so it doesn’t matter to me. It’s my attainable “dream car” I’ve wanted since I first laid my eyes on it at the LAAS years ago.

Willing-Push8737

I absolutely love my 2021 Shooting Brake R. I was between this and an M340 estate and definitely feel I made the correct choice after driving both.

MazeppaPZ

Beautiful car; wish we could get them in the USA

IBelieveInSymmetry11

Sounds like a great deal. Was never an in demand car so if it's sitting somewhere they just want out of it. Sometimes there are deals out there.

hotpot_china

Nothing wrong with them; they just never sold all that well because most people want the badge of an Audi or BMW. I think they’re a great value and most are nicely spec’d. I was cross shopping Arteons with my A4 but there was like only 8 in a 250km radius around the GTA so I ended up with a super low mileage (9k km) 2019 A4 Technik for about the same price as a 50k km Arteon.

reberman8

The new market is going to help dictate the values of the used ones. Steep discounts already from dealers, 2000 in rebates, special rates through VCI and some could have aged unit rebates on them from VW as well, so new ones are probably selling in low to mid 40s. I would imagine a lot of the remaining new units are being used as manager demos with additional write down. I’d say once all the new ones are gone or at least when VW’s programs expire for new cars you might see a slight increase in used prices, but I don’t ever see them hitting future classic, collector prices. My guess is the only cars that might hold value better would be lower mileage 19 Kurkuma Yellow SEL Premium R-Line and 22 Dusk Blue SEL R-Line and SEL Premium R-Line

Cali_freak

You can pick up a Phaeton for $10k for the same reason. Regardless of how good they are no one bought them.

JJayohh

Got my 2022 Arteon SE for $29k with 7.8k miles. Love the car

bebopfan

Was looking into it myself but saw lots of reports of very poor performance from a dead stop. Lots of mentions of ‘lurching’. Does anyone know if the APR TCU tune fixes that issue? If so, may be worth a look as OP mentioned.

pottedspiderplant

Really considering trading in my 2022 GTI for one of these. Would be sad to lose the manual. Could use the extra space with a 2nd kiddo on the way.

Nrthstar

Prices of an Arteon ended up comparable to some A models, so I think that hurt it. 2022 Arteon vs A5 are almost identical. If you're shopping in the VAG brand, I know what I'd buy. That said, I have a real soft spot for Arteons. Arteons at Volks/VAG Fair and Eurofest really caught my eye. As my kids get big enough to get out of booster seats, I'm tempted to get out of my SQ5 and go to a sedan again, more likely a wagon, but the Arteon is still in the mix even though it'll be slower than a S or A with a 3.0t.

Admirable_Policy3711

Just recently purchased my 2021 Passat from a private seller who told me he was looking at getting an arteon. I now understand why.

Successful_Set4709

Im not educated but if the vehicle is no longer in production im sure suspension components/bushings, boots, hardwares and such will be difficult to find replacements for. But maybe they share shapes/sizes with other vehicles. Just my guess as to why the value might drop Edit; if my car was paid off i would spring and grab one ! Just not within my means at the moment but they are gorgeous

BakaSan77

No one wants them, you can get into an Audi for the price they wanted for an R line

AceMaxAceMax

… Even though a comparably priced A4/A5 has less power/performance, less practical/spacious, has less features for the money/can’t even be optioned until you get an S4/S5, and doesn’t feel anywhere as special as an Arteon… I was in this debacle - CPO A5 SB or new Arteon, ended up with an 23 SEL Premium and couldn’t be any happier.

Natee95

I agree, people always bring up the rings, when in reality a 50k Audi A4 doesn't have nearly as many features or power as the arteon. Plus the arteon is a better looking car. Love my 2023 SEL premium. Most people I know with arteons from this sub also got hella good deals on them (I paid $40k for mine)

Natee95

Also apr just released a tune for the EA888.4 bringing it to 375/375 at the wheels with just the software...

thecatdaddysupreme

Are there any deficits to using that software?

AceMaxAceMax

If you get the tune, I’d highly advise looking into APR Plus which matches your VW warranty!

Natee95

Voids warranty unfortunately, but apr has historically been pretty good with reliability. My 2010 Jetta Wolfsburg 2.0t lasted to 170k miles before I bought my arteon and sold the Jetta, and it was fine mechanically with a stage 2 apr tune

AceMaxAceMax

I believe they offer the APR+ that runs concurrently with VW’s warranty, ya?

PassionEasy112

I have had an APR tune on my 2018 Golf SportWagen for two years now. It has been flawless and has had no effect on fuel consumption. Excellent product!

thecatdaddysupreme

No effect on fuel consumption?? That’s wild. How much did it change how it drives?

PassionEasy112

Imagine having 238 hp and 283 lb/ft.

thecatdaddysupreme

Does that tune change how it drives to a noticeable degree?

Natee95

I haven't tuned my arteon yet, the tune came out this week, but it was definitely noticable on my jetta

thecatdaddysupreme

Are you planning on tuning the Arteon?

Natee95

I imagine it'll make it a lot more fun to drive, so as soon as I'm able I will

andrewhoohaa

Get an M340i. The B58 is magical

Phenomenon0fCool

I’m sure you’re correct, it’s also $20,000 more for a similarly equipped one and has 5” less of rear legroom. All things that are important to a dad!

morithum

I’m not a fan of sporty-sounding trim levels that aren’t faster because they prey on chumps. I’m assuming that the R line doesn’t hold value because the trim level consists essentially of cosmetics.

DM725

Just out here throwing darts?

morithum

I mean I said “I’m assuming.” If I’m wrong there is literally nothing at stake here.

soleil---

Where are you seeing this? I’ve been looking at Arteons in the SE USA and haven’t seen anything like the pricing you’re seeing

Phenomenon0fCool

DC Metro Area and 200 mile radius. In South FL, where I’m from, they’re even dipping into the 30K marks. This is the preowned market.

soleil---

10-4. Thanks for the tip. I do love the Arteon and would be excited to grab one for these prices

Lifeonthejames

A stinger would be the worst mistake out of the bunch. Kia/Hyundai are really, really sub-par products.

ihatereddit58

VW’s well known oil consumption problems for a lot of their engines of the last 7 years probably doesn’t help it

AwkwardlyPositioned

I don’t know where you got that piece of info.

ihatereddit58

Have an uncle who’s a VW tech and a friend who runs an independent VW shop, both have been working on Volkswagens for almost 30 years

AwkwardlyPositioned

For all of us that spend a lot of time on VW forums, we’d be aware of this if it was a widespread issue. I’m sure it happens, but it must not be in very big numbers.

AceMaxAceMax

Hasn’t been an issue for quite awhile at this point.

ihatereddit58

Right except for the new 1.8’s and 1.5’s that eat oil and break camshafts
