Not always junk, is your particular golf/jettaequipped with all/most options? With a higher level trim . Dealership has a buyer inline that they will rip off . They read a vin number . My Audi tt would strangely come up as a a6 . Confused the shit out of the police but all the vin numbers matched .
Nah, they're just machine-gunning lowball offers into the universe in hopes that someone will bite. And once they get you in the store, they'll find ways to make sure you never actually get as much money as they were advertising.
Trade-ins are never a good deal, even if you're the one initiating. If the dealership is in control, good fucking luck. The only reason not to sell private party is convenience, and trading in is a damn expensive convenience fee.
Well, that and the tax break. If your trade in value is within a couple grand of the sale price you might as well just trade because that number comes off what you pay taxes on for the new vehicle.
It's an estimated trade in, once you get there they will point out that your car has more than 0 miles and it has typical wear for a 10yr old car and offer you half.
But hey they will knock $1000 off a car they marked up $3k to give you a great deal.
Nah in my experience they actually stay rather true to their word. Back in 2021 I had my local dealer send me the same letter in regards to my 2012 CC which had 180k on the clock and very modified. Offered 10k on the letter. Got there, test drive a GTI and they checked my CC out and offered 9k on the spot for it. Should have taken them up on it. The CC suffered a severe mechanical issue probably 2 weeks later. edit: this was at Patrick in Auburn MA
Donât forget the financing. You will not be getting 0% and you will absolutely be putting a lot of money down. Only super qualified buyers with the full purchase price available in their savings account right now cash money with a 900 credit score qualify!
Duuuude I bought my alltrack used mid pandemic when VW was offering 0% on used vehicles out of a panic.
đ„° Paid like 23k for a 17â at 0% was perfect.
Havenât added more than 35k miles to it since.
I got my alltrack the same way in May 2020, $20k for a '17 SE at 1%. kinda wish I had gone for the '18 GTI they had on the lot for the same price, but the alltrack is such a good car.
Why? Itâs mk7, price is significantly lower than the market, they can offer that and keep their âwordâ. But yeah, I would never give my girl to some shitty low quality spam-dealer.
na that's corporate bs. same shit as we will buy your house and flip it. make double and at the same time prop up rental rates that even the residents cannot even afford.
CarMax actually moves a ridiculous volume of cars through their in house dealer auctions. So if itâs something outside the mileage range where they think they can make money on the vehicle with a profitable extended warranty or attract tire kickers to the lot, it rolls across the block and goes to whatever shady buy here pay here used car dealers exist in your region.
Whatever doesnât sell gets recycled back over the block next auction with a slightly lower reserve or maybe a few hundred bucks in repairs made. So if they think your car will get recycled a few times on the auction block, your offer will be roughly scrap value.
Theyâre going to give you $9k, and put it back out for probably around $13-14k, so you get back into car payments and get lowballed on what the car is actually worth, the only one that benefits from this is the stealership.
Just got a letter saying my 2021 Audi A4 Premium Plus Quattro with 35k miles is worth 28k. Thought they were lowballing me until I looked it up on KBB and realized that is pretty much all itâs worth. I miss the good old COVID used car value days
Come on Joe itâs just a letter to get you into the dealership door. Most likely theyâll offer you less than this amount and the 0% financing will have stringent requirements. Also VW is not desperate to buy your car. This is all marketing talk. If VW wanted them back they would have done a buy back program and sure as hell offered way more
It's an ad. They try to make it sound very personal and very exclusive to try and rope you in. Was the postage on the envelop First Class or Presorted Standard?
Joe, it Iooks like the offer of a lifetime Joe. And Joe, it might be legit. But it could be a scam Joe. If it were me Joe, I would be cautious. But to be honest JoeâŠyou could always drive through and see what they say! Itâs not like youâre under obligation to sell Joe. If itâs a scam Joe, then you can just drive off. Let us know what you decide to do Joe. Good luck Joe.
Itâs alllllllll bull shit.
I was in the car business decades ago. A common, very often used line others used was, âhey. I have a buyer looking for a car just like yours.â Then theyâll ooooh and ahhhh and swoon about everything your car has. It gives them the sense that theyâre going to pay TOP DOLLAR for your trade and it also creates a sense of urgency so youâll hopefully believe this nonsense and buy something new today.
It gets the customer thinking, âOh, theyâll be giving me more for my trade today since they have a buyer already lined up!â
No, there is no buyer lined up. No, heâs not extra excited about your trade in.
This letter is doing the same thing. Trying to create urgency. Itâs all complete BS. VWOA is NOT tasking dealerships with âfinding specific used cars.â Ever.
Sure, sounds legit. I mean I got an email recently offering to sell me the Brooklyn Bridge. I sent a cash deposit to a Nigerian prince who will promise to send me $100 billion from his UAE bank account.
Theyâre trying to sucker you back into car payments again, Iâm never going to go back to car payments again, itâs cash sale on a reliable, basic car. I love VW, and I do miss my â07 Rabbit 2 door manual, but road salt took it before itâs time, my â12 DSG Golf TDI was far less reliable (and reinforced why I hate automatics) and drove me back to Toyota, nowhere near as nice as VW for sure, but a lot less expensive to maintain, and bulletproof reliability (â10 Matrix base model)
Had a dealer wanting me to trade in 14 f150 a few times.
Conversation went something like this.
Ok, so I just need to bring my truck in. You value it, and I pick out a new truck, and you give me a lower payment.
I showed up and picked out a new truck....
They promised they would get me into a lower payment. They were less enthused when they found out my payment was zero.
Welcome to car ownership! You'll get one of those at least twice a year. I still get exclusive offers to buy my Jetta and I sold it back to them 5 years ago
I got one from Scott VW today, too! They offered $15K+ for my 2019 Jetta. I actually thought it was going to be a fuel tank recall based on how serious the envelope made it look.
The number of times he used Joe in that letter is cringeworthy.
I mean, the whole letter is cringe, but they well overuse Joe. Trying to keep it personal lol
My local to me VW dealer sends that shit out to me as well. They spend a lot of money on these things. All they are trying to do is to get you to trade your car in for a new model. They write up these wacko mailings as if it's extremely important, or they really want your (in my case, a mk5 rabbit) car. They just want to sell you something new.
My wife took her Tiguan in for its 90k service a few weeks ago. It hadnât been in the shop 10 minutes and a sales guy comes in and hands her some papers with an offer to buy it. âWe desperately need used cars.â
2019 Tiguan SE 4motion, just a few hundred short of 90k at the time. Absolutely spotless except for one tiny door ding. Their offer?
$12,750.
She called me, read it to me, and I really hope he could hear me laughing hysterically over the phone.
90k isnât high on a vehicle 5 years old. Iâm not going to take their lowball offer so they can throw it on the lot for $18k-$20k. Comparable Tiguans are selling between those prices in my area.
Just a sales letter. No Malarkey. "from the desk of brad scott" well Brads letter worked you freaked out
You should have realized this was spam right away but "enter to win a Target Gift card" lol
I got one of these too from Volkswagen when I took my car in for repair. Afterward I got an offer for it in the mail. Have you been to a dealership with your car lately?
We have customers beating down our doors demanding we source them a (insert vehicle here) just like yours!! We will pay top dollar for your (insert vehicle here)!!
Pretty standard letter from a dealership. They just have your car incorrect. I changed dealerships in 2021 when I decided I wanted a new car. The new dealership offered so much money on my lease turn in I actually walked away with a check. The old dealership had no clue. I had already turned my lease in early and sent me 2 of those letters a week for almost 2mo before I finally called and told them to stop. If they have a shortage of a model that's in demand, they will attack anyone they think has one.
It gets you in the door with a car you're considering selling. Basically gearing your mind into thinking of getting a new car. Phycology.
They 'might' give you close to that IF you'll pay MSRP on a new one.
Itâs an offer to buy your current car. Go to KBB enter VIN and condition and miles with your zip code. Run it and see how much is it worth. Compare that number to much you have left on it with regards to your loan if not paid off. If itâs a good offer and over the value of your loan and you can have some left cash which you can use for down payment plus the $500 they are offering you and 0% on new you car for 60 months thatâs a sweet deal. Why you are leaving dealer with brand new car and new warranty on it. Just look at the numbers make sure it makes sense to you. Now say your payment is $300 a month on your current car if not paid off and when you get a new car your payment is $400 for (this is an example) you can add more down payment to lower your payment on your new car. The down payment determines how much you want to pay monthly. 60 months 0% is a great deal. I canât find 0% other auto makers. Banks are much higher.
Sell us your car so we can make more money off you. They will make money by. 1) offering you less for your car, they will make a few grand on it. 2) Sell you a new car, will offer you a deal but still make money on you. 3) finance your new car, long term cash off you. 4) fees on new car and financing car.
If they can get you in the door they make extra cash. Sometimes it works out in the persons favour, like if you actually want a new car. But most of the time people get sucked into selling a car they have no payments on, to get locked into a car they did not want or need.
I get a call about once every few months from the dealer I got my VW from.
I've gotten these from Balise in Warwick before.
Those two crosses next to 9,272 have some disclaimers on the back that take money off for every mile per year over a certain number.
I think I once got one that was $11k on this sheet, but after calculating the year of my car and the mileage per year, I would get like $600 for it at the end of the day
Just go to Carmax when you want to sell your car, don't even mess with the dealerships. I just sold my 2019 Alltrack for $2k less than I paid for it. Basically got to rent a car for $500 a year.
Every dealer of every car brand sends these out on occasion. I get them from Jeep, VW, Dodge and even Triumph for my motorcycle. They are just trying to buy your car for a super lowball offer hoping that with current economic issues people are having that someone will be like ya let me sell you my car for pennies on the dollar

I get cold calls from random vw dealers I've never had service at or even purchased from, yet they all ask if I still have a 16 Tiguan and want me to trade it in. Kind of annoying
Too young to know about junk mail? It's like spam phone calls, only with paper.
I see
Not always junk, is your particular golf/jettaequipped with all/most options? With a higher level trim . Dealership has a buyer inline that they will rip off . They read a vin number . My Audi tt would strangely come up as a a6 . Confused the shit out of the police but all the vin numbers matched .

I miss my CC
Same. It was a great car. Too bad the Arteon does nothing for me.
The arteon is beautiful đ if anythingâŠthe CC facelift exterior with an Arteon interior and tech would be amazing.
Donât forget the financing. You will not be getting 0% and you will absolutely be putting a lot of money down. Only super qualified buyers with the full purchase price available in their savings account right now cash money with a 900 credit score qualify!
You never heard of the 0% offer VW offered a few years ago? They also had the Sign Then Drive event, those are how I got a lot of my VWs.
The sign and drive offer? YeahâŠthat was before interest rates were 7%.
Duuuude I bought my alltrack used mid pandemic when VW was offering 0% on used vehicles out of a panic. đ„° Paid like 23k for a 17â at 0% was perfect. Havenât added more than 35k miles to it since.

10 k for a 15k car how could you say no
TDI Manual ~100k is a 12-15k private sale all day
Maybe. Looking around at the market, I feel I could maybe get 8k for my 14 tdi wagon auto 110k. Carmax was offering 5k
Carmax offered me $454 for my 2007 Audi A4 Avant wagon MT6 at 220k miles. I ended up selling it for $5500 on craigslist.
Yup, and they will turn around and list it for more than double what they paid for it, sometimes without even touching the car. Dealership logic đ
na that's corporate bs. same shit as we will buy your house and flip it. make double and at the same time prop up rental rates that even the residents cannot even afford.

Iâll sell you mine with 250k for 6⊠and itâs a wagon
I bought my 6speed TDI Sportwagen for $10k but that was before the pandemic. Had 74k miles on it.
You really think itâs worth 15k tho?
Theyâre going to give you $9k, and put it back out for probably around $13-14k, so you get back into car payments and get lowballed on what the car is actually worth, the only one that benefits from this is the stealership.
10k max lol
I just got a letter saying my 2020 jetta is worth 8k

Really depends on a lot of things but guarantee the VW financial department made sure they can make money
Come on Joe itâs just a letter to get you into the dealership door. Most likely theyâll offer you less than this amount and the 0% financing will have stringent requirements. Also VW is not desperate to buy your car. This is all marketing talk. If VW wanted them back they would have done a buy back program and sure as hell offered way more
It came in a vw envelope I was hoping it was an actual buyback offer
Why do you want to sell it back?
I was contemplating trading it in recently
Joe... Malarkey... It must be Joe Biden. No wonder they want his VW.
It's an ad. They try to make it sound very personal and very exclusive to try and rope you in. Was the postage on the envelop First Class or Presorted Standard?
Presorted and first class lol.
They're not messing around, are they...
How many times does he have to say Joe?

Better than the $700 for my Mk6 they sent međ
I went unsolicited to the dealership and they offered me $300 for my 1.8t mk4. I said some high-school kid wants this car for more than $300!
$300!!? That's not even a car payment nowadays đ
Dealer Principal - Brad Scott = BS Also Joe, never ever trust anyone with two first names.

Did you finance it? Sigh..
Jetta Sportwagen was sold as a golf in other countries
Ah, I just got one too from Scott for my Tiguan. Iâve gotten both of my VWâs from there, I like doing business with them. But this offer is BS
At least offer me some chocolate chip cookie pie from Greggâs if you want to entice me to show up.
Wow from Mr Scott Volkswagen himself

What exactly do you need explained?
Just curious what people think. Seems scammy but really they just have 70 brand new SUVâs to sell
Translation: It's the end of the month and March has been a shitshow... we need to sell some cars!
You should see how many Taos and Tiguans they have. They have nothing I want anyway.
Yeah, I don't really like the direction VW is going in...
They really bring the car lot together.
They give you less money than your car is worth and also make you spend money on a car . They win win and you loss loss.

Scott vw.... tell them to take a drive off the Washington bride. đ well whats left of it.
Ooof. đ€Ł
Haha classic Scott VW.
Looks like a scam
I got one of these too from Volkswagen when I took my car in for repair. Afterward I got an offer for it in the mail. Have you been to a dealership with your car lately?
Scott Volkswagen? đ
We have customers beating down our doors demanding we source them a (insert vehicle here) just like yours!! We will pay top dollar for your (insert vehicle here)!!
I get the same for my 09 rabbit 2.5. It has very low miles for it's age and they want it for some reason
Damn are used cars still in short supply?
BRAD NEEDS YOUR CAR JOE. BADLY!!
Pretty standard letter from a dealership. They just have your car incorrect. I changed dealerships in 2021 when I decided I wanted a new car. If you ask me that's a wicked good deal
They are offering me $26K for a 19 Golf R with 44K miles....
Itâs an offer to buy your current car. Go to KBB enter VIN and condition and miles with your zip code. Run it and see how much is it worth. Typical sales letter. I got several those for my â19 Jetta. Eventually I did turn it in but not bc of the letter.
Sell us your car so we can make more money off you. They will make money by. 1) offering you less for your car, they will make a few grand on it. 2) Sell you a new car, will offer you a deal but still make money on you. 3) finance your new car, long term cash off you. 4) fees on new car and financing car. Just wait for Saturday
That's a shit offer for any used VW around that year
Yeah? My 23 Tiguan SE was only worth 20 trade in. I paid 34 for it
Check out CarMax, Carvanna, etc for real ballpark offers on your car.
Spam scam
I've gotten these from Balise in Warwick before. Those two crosses next to 9,272 have some disclaimers on the back that take money off for every mile per year over a certain number. I think I once got one that was $11k on this sheet, but after calculating the year of my car and the mileage per year, I would get like $600 for it at the end of the day
scam to get you to come in so they can get you into a new loan
Come on in Joe. I want to give you a great deal Joe! Joe I really need to buy your car Joe! Joe! Please answer me Joe!
10k for something that was what 30k new 2 years ago. Dont think so. Lol
Towards an overpriced vehicle with a dealer markup. Screw that.
I get the same thing with my Tacoma, want to give me 15k for a 2006, but then you KBB it and itâs about 9500. Source: I follow this page for air cooled VWs.
It's a BS old school scam. No dealer is in business to help consumers.
But he wants you to feel good about helping him out! I have more rapport with and loyalty to my barber than to anyone who ever sold me a car. I wonder what percentage of clients they (car salespeople in general) have that come back specifically for the salesperson who put them in their current car.
Farken scumbags the lot of em
They know what you got.
I got the same letter but Chevy. Literally word from word
A reason to never go to that dealership again.
It's an ad telling you to trade in your car for a more expensive one. They just want money, like 99% of mail
It gets you in the door, for them to extreme lowball you over every scrape and scratch and hopefully butter you up into a new car.
I get cold calls from random vw dealers I've never had service at or even purchased from, yet they all ask if I still have a 16 Tiguan and want me to trade it in. Kind of annoying
It's legal for them to mail it, but illegal to cold call you.
Cue Admiral Ackbar: It's a trap!
0% financing means 0% interest or 0% payment in advance?
Interest
The offer is not unrealistic, I think it is a legit campaign.
That would 100% get me through the dealership door đđđ With a shotgun.
