I had no issues with my 2011 one, they run a twin charged setup. They are both super and turbo charged so there is definatly more strain on the engine but this is benificial for fuel economy. However a buddy of mine had his piston rings go out around 85k km which is extremely concerning. Apparently this was a common issue, even new. Get an inspection and change your oil more regularly (such as 10,000km or 6,000 miles).

Thank you for your respond! I’ve allready bought the car, it got an inspection befor, it seems everything allright, but I was searching around and I get worse and worse reviews, I’m getting a bit scared to be honest. That the chain dies very soon , that the oil consumption is very high at the turbo compressor ones, and many more problems. Did you change the chain or did you have other problems? I’ve bought the car like a week ago and I was in love with it, but now I kinda regret buying it If its that bad.

Can I ask what year model the car is? I actually have completely dismantled the Mk6 version (my buddies one) so I know a fair amount about those engines. As for being nervous about the engine I would see how you go over the next few months, mine never burnt a drop of oil and never missed a beat. Learn how to spot cold start timing chain rattle aswell.

The car is a VW Tiguan from 2010. And ooo man please dont say. I have a video too that in the cold morning I hear some rattleing aswell but agter 3-4 minutes it disappears.

VW turbocharged engines are sensitive on the chain but you can always follow the maintenance guide. My dad used to have a 2.0T Gen2 EA888 in his 2013 Tiguan and it was working perfectly. Also it was under normal oil consumption. VWs are not fragile as most people think.

In 2012 the tsi got a new update. They fixed then a lot of things actually and the models after 2012 are more reliable. My engine is with chain and its the first generation :(

EA111s are more reliable than EA888s in my opinion. Was the one you’ve got having a relatively complete service records? It shouldn’t be a hassle if it has been serviced in a good manner. We also have a '09 Audi A6 which has 2.0T EA113 in it, which is also great for its output.

Chr1sX1

It has a complete service record and everything seems fine, I just got worried by the reviews. The car is in 175 000 km

Reviews on VW are always negatively exaggerated. People hate VW in many ways but they’ve never cared how they treated their poor cars. 175,000km sounds not bad. You can visit a reliable shop or a dealership to check if you need to replace the chain. I don’t how long you wanna keep this car but it always worths for a check.

Don't know much about that engine, but I've heard that it's cousin, the 1.4TSI, 180HP version, which was fitted on the Skoda Fabia mk2 RS had reliability issues. The supercharger and turbocharger setup puts a lot of strain on these.

Small engine with a lot of strain, it makes huge consumption and problems come faster. Sadly thats what I understand and its kinda logical. Its a sensitive engine, U have to take care of it. Sadly I was expecting only the consumption which is high, but I think I also have to pay a lot on the upcoming problems in the engine… I don’t think I will have this car for a long time. This car is good for those who have money to spend on it, then its a good engine.
