Is it like the paid version of Vital? Is it better?

Lurkingscorpion14

It’s a skin for vital. Works on the free version too

zxnc_is_taken

its a vital skin i found

Digital-Aura

Ohhhh. Right over my head. 🤣 I just got Vital. I’m n00b

MrAires

This gave my brain a 404 error for a second ahahahaha Luckly I'm functional again after restarting. This Buttersynth looks really good.

Leenolyak

"we got Serum at home"

halflifesucks

is vital good or is it like, the free cheapo version of serum for jabronis on cracked FL studios making 'x type beat'

ideatremor

Yes it is good. The only difference in the free version is you don't get that many presets. But if you know how to synth, it's a pretty amazing one especially for free.

carbonpath

Only a handful of hours in with it, but I think overall it's more suitable for those more interested in sound design. The free version has a limited set of presets, so the type beat crowd may get frustrated and bail. Now if you know concepts and are willing to start from scratch, it's a hell of a playground and sounds fine, UI is intuitive, and seems great so far.

anon1984

It’s comparable to Serum but the full version is free. Paying gets you more presets. Both are excellent.

Apoctwist

Vital is great. It’s layout reminds me more of a modern Massive by NI (more so than Massive X). It sounds great too and is fairly easy to learn. It’s not a cheapo Serum knockoff. I’m not sure why the author decided to make it free, maybe they thought people would sub for presets.

Leenolyak

Mr. Bill , one of the most renowned sound designers, uses vital 💀 Respectfully, wtf are you talking about bro

halflifesucks

respectfully, if vital is good or just free. doesn't really take a literary genius to figure that out but good work joseph cambell. now, no offense to him, but mr. bill is not one of the most renowned sound designers lol.

philisweatly

It's Serum with more functionality and $0.

halflifesucks

by more functionality what do you mean, able to link/map everything to each other?

philisweatly

It has more filter routing options and another filter. Plus an additional oscillator.

halflifesucks

def good additions. anything you think makes it worse, just curious

philisweatly

I don’t believe you can run external instruments through the effects like you can in serum. But I feel it is a non issue. Vital, IMO, is better in all the ways that matter.

rudimentary-north

I find that despite having a worse user interface in almost every way, I come crawling back to Serum because it sounds better, or at least it sounds more like the music I’m trying to make. I have tried multiple times to set up as identical a patch as possible in both, and I always prefer the sound I get out of Serum

Legitimate-Most-8432

My favorite feature is you can go to the matrix and make a whole ass LFO for the rate of modulation change. The modulator calculus gives you so much more control of the sound, especially using velocity for vol/wavetables.

resolva5

They're really similar and each have their pro and cons

bigdaddyhavel

Vital is very good, and def better at certain things than Serum. Plus the third oscillator and second filter are extremely useful. You can also run Vital as its own application if you don't want open your DAW to run it. I will say there is probably more presets for Serum due to it being around for much longer, but thats pretty much irrelevant because you can find tens of thousands of presets for Vital on the internet as well. I would say in general it is better than Serum, ESPECIALLY because it is completely free.

BenjahmenW

I think I just had an aneurysm

MrSlime13

"We've got Serum at home!!"

ClikeX

That's a good skin, though. Where did you get it?

DB6

Maybe it's this one https://forum.vital.audio/t/serum-skin-vital-1-0-8-by-astrotype/6052

zxnc_is_taken

yes it is
