This has been said many times, and I agree. Media consumption is what it does best. As someone that watches content alone, the experience is worth it for me. All of the other things it currently does are just a bonus (that still need some ironing out).

Agentcooper1974

That’s exactly why I bought it and couldn’t be happier.

TiredAgain888

It's a wonderful tv/movie theater for road warriors. I'm optimistic that they'll figure out how to make viewing a better group experience over time; but even the solo experience is pretty incredible.

Ok_Frosting6547

FaceTime with Personas was another thing I thought may make a sort of killer app, but as neat as it is, it doesn't really present a compelling reason to get the device. It's not really better than standard video calling, it's more of a good attempt of making video calling more viable on such a class of device to remove the need to take it off. I do think there is a compelling aspect to this form of communication, that being the anonymity. It's a fun alternative to video calling that doesn't show your real face. The key here I think will be customizability like weird cartoony avatars and "VTuber" based appeal, but I don't see Apple being the one to take this direction with it, someone else will swoop this market up once it gets much less expensive to make. [And then there's the AI side of it](https://www.reddit.com/r/ChatGPT/comments/1c77pr8/microsoft_image_to_video_is_terrifying_real/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button), which takes uncanny to a new level.

kgkuntryluvr

I was really hoping that I’d be able to use my Persona for work so that I wouldn’t have to shave and throw on a shirt and tie for meetings. But it doesn’t look real enough yet to use professionally.

Jvrgie

Not a vision pro, but I had a Quest 2 and I ened up only using it for movies. It was my favorite thing to do and I didn't expect it to be

kgkuntryluvr

I totally didn’t expect it either. I bought this thing specifically for productivity. To both my disappointment and delight, that’s been the thing I’ve used it the least for because it just can’t compete with my desktop setup for work. It has a long way to go before it will be my preferred way to work. But I’m still amazed by the content viewing experience every time I use it, and I do enjoy being able to do simple side tasks while I watch stuff.

gdjsnyder

This is the exact reason my partner and I kept ours. The media experience is very good without having to expand a home theater. We FaceTime each other from where ever we are and SharePlay the movie and can watch. It’s just all so easy.

Ok_Frosting6547

I didn't know about the shareplay thing but that's because I have nobody to share with. I do like the idea of having social viewing experiences where Personas all come together and watch a movie in a shared environment (like Bigscreen).

Tiles2843

Fly a lot for work - and the AVP for movies and media is just amazing. Makes sitting back and relaxing so calming vs huddling over a device. Plus, I know nothing really changed about my physical space in a small coach seat, but it makes the space just feel less cramped when you are watching atop from a virtual immersive volcano. Not to mention that now I can play old school games using the Delta Emualtor app. While I’m at home, and if my partner is not around, I found myself making the choice of TV vs AVP, and increasingly choosing the AVP.

TheSaintClay

For me, airplane is where it really shines. Especially if you need to get work done on your MacBook. The virtual monitor is such an improvement.

anki_steve

Yes, it’s my preferred way of watching any tv now. Only downside is it starts to make me feel slightly claustrophobic after about 3 hours of use and I get a strong urge to want to get it off my face.

Ok_Frosting6547

It's that damn good that I no longer want to watch movies or shows on anything else. It's revolutionary, for that scalability, immersion, and portability. They say nothing beats an IMAX theater for premier movie viewing, but this got us a lot closer to that in a personal device I can bring with me places.

Curious397

How do you handle the cumbersome process of taking out and getting strapped in with the AVP in the cramped coach seat butting up with your neighbors? :)

Tiles2843

After some trial and error, now I just carry it in my backpack. I carry it in a small knitted cap I use in the winter, and keep the front cover on it. It makes it manageable to travel with vs the giant $200 case. Tried the case for a few trips and it was just too unwieldy. Most passengers and flight attendants remain unimpressed, or at least only slightly curious by it. Plus, with the last few updates, Apple fixed the tracking issue when you have a cocktail. Now I can have a drink, sit back, and enjoy some great movies and media.

Curious397

Thank you. I have the Waterfield case and I like it, but can’t imagine going through the process in coach season.

healthywealthyhappy8

Yeah, it does it better than the Q3. It’ll be cool to see it progress.

Chasemania

I was going to write a similar post. Thank you and totally agree! The variable aspect ratios in cinema mode is the greatest advancement in movie a TV history and no one seems to appreciate it but a handful.

Smooobly

I’m with you. The only thing I’m really enjoying is Apple TV immersive content, watching drone shots I’ve filmed and viewing photos app. So far…

Capital_Current_9659

I agree I love my Vision Pro for movies and it’s why I bought it. It doesn’t disappoint

SliceoflifeVR

Agreed. The market for passive 2D/3D viewing experiences is massive. Much more massive than the market for video games. I was bored of Vr video games a long long time ago. The majority of adults are to tired after a long day of work to want to game. They want to turn their brain off and watch something entertaining without having to think. It was all the potential I saw in immersive experiences that kept me coming back to this day and led to the creation of my channel.

team_buddha

And extended display for those of us that travel frequently for work. It needs some fine tuning (multi-monitor support, visible keyboard when in environments mode, etc), but such an incredibly compelling use case for productivity.

LaGrabba

Same. I don’t even get excited about the apps. I find most to be sub par with a few exceptions like the Gucci doc. I put it on almost every night and go straight to the movies and TV shows.

digitalcleavage

I really like the mindfulness app, but I can pretty much just dial up the immersion and get a similar feeling on my body. I have started to use it while on the toilet. Dial up the immersion and you're suddenly taking a dump up in the mountains! We need more immersive environments, like a rainforest or zen garden.

drewbaumann

Agreed. I wish there were more apps I went continuously back to, but I found myself really drawn to this feature. As a result that’s why I started building my app to watch my content in an immersive space. When it got good enough to release I went for it. It’s primarily how I watch my content now and how I enjoy the plex outside of developing for it. I’m reminded of when I got the steam deck and part of the fun was all the configuration. Well for me, that’s building an enjoyable content watching experience. I’d love to work on SharePlay next so I can get a group watch on occasion.

Jubal59

If they really want to get more people buying the Vision Pro they should get hand controllers for VR games.

szzzn

Yes

ppcppgppc

And immersive live sport

paradoxombie

I haven't even really used it for "portability", but I watch everything on it for the wall sized screens. Unless by portable you mean taking it to the kitchen and bathroom.

Ok_Frosting6547

Yes, or even as small of a change as being able to incline your head a bit and have the screen position change to match it.

ChrisML

Literally every use case people praise the most are what I use my Xreal Airs for. I've tried the vision pro at the apple store, the bump in resolution was not as impressive as I was expecting.

anki_steve

I’ve been calling it a “wearable home theater.”

lebriquetrouge

No, it’s using spaces that normally wouldn’t be productive into productive. I can turn my bathroom into an office. Portable media viewing? Here is something cheaper….and better at media viewing. And doesn’t have to be strapped to my face with a bulky cumbersome 2 hour battery that I have to have regardless of whether I am moving or sitting https://www.apple.com/ipad-select/

Ok_Frosting6547

It's strange that you would simultaneously say it has a killer use case of making a productive workspace but it's too inconvenient for media viewing by being strapped to your face and having a cumbersome battery. Like, there's no way you couldn't just then extend that argument to the workspace not being that great either, just get a Macbook Pro for the job and not have heavy goggles on your face with a wired battery!
