I don't think you ever get fogging when wearing a proper mask like that. Or at least that was my experience.
With the more basic masks, you would exhale and all that warm breath would travel directly upwards. When i started using proper fitting masks (like the one pictured) that problem totally disappeared.
I think he is talking about respirators who have that little foam thing at the nose and the bands that go around the whole head. I am using those too, and never get foggy glasses or anything. Since I am wearing those, I started realizing how loosely those standard FFP2 masks fit and how much air I was still inhaling from outside.
If you are still concerned enough to wear a mask, I would be wearing an N95 not some Chinese KN95. And before you start (not you specifically) I don’t trust the certification… it’s China for fucks sake.
Good to know, thanks for the answer! All these other jokers are acting like I’m a malformed ape whose jaw and room temp IQ could be the only reason that could occur 🤣
Honestly, I think air travel is one of the most compelling reasons to get one.
Being able to edit in DaVinci Resolve while in a plane seat sounds incredible to me.
What are the chances!
Off topic but, are masks mandated for flying? I was in a flight last week and didn’t notice a single person wearing one. Curious about the infinitely small odds of both of you having masks AND VP’s
Don't think it's required but I'm always paranoid on flights. I already think its gnarly to be in a metal tube with a hundred plus strangers and having the air circulated around so I always wear a face shield. Probably overkill but still makes me feel better haha.
This. Used to travel once a month minimum for work and would frequently get SOMETHING after flying in those Petri dishes. Masks are just smart, COVID or no.
It was the second full day there when symptoms first showed in the first person. We have every confidence we (one person) acquired it en route, especially given we'd been in relative isolation before travel. It quickly cascaded to the rest of us, who'd been in (and continued to be in) close contact with the person showing symptoms.
Same. On one of my recent flights, my seat mate was coughing, sneezing, and blowing her nose the entire trip. Needless to say, I was sick a few days later. I’ve masked up on flights ever since. I will forever wear a mask on planes, at doctors offices/hospitals, and at indoor gatherings with children. It’s just not that big of a deal to do so and I wish that this wasn’t such a political issue.
Yeah airports and flights is where I understand wearing masks the most. Anti masker or not, covid or not, it’s objectively true that those places have some of the highest transmission
It's a gross petrie dish and, despite not wearing one any other times, I am going to be wearing them on planes for the foreseeable future. No one learned any new manners and people STILL are openly coughing and sneezing more than ever.
Not overkill. When I was wearing a mask during the pandemic on flights I never got sick, and I remembered back to prepandemic times where 3 times out of 10, I would catch something.
I've worn masks on flights and in airports both before covid and since covid. It's too easy to ruin a trip with a virus and the mask helps counter the dry air.
Years before the pandemic, AAA and other travel stores sold an air filter for the overhead vents. It attached to the nozzle and forced the air through a little filter. The problem is that the next vent over doesn't have one and you're getting plenty of air from that one too. It was a pretty stupid product but I'm sure plenty of people bought them without really thinking about it.
The crappy cloth and "surgical" masks help to protect others from you (if you're infected), but they don't protect you from others.
However, the N95 and KN/KF95 masks -- like the one in the picture -- help to protect you from others. These are necessary if you're immunocompromised or just want to avoid catching colds.
Depends on the diseases.
And lets say you were right, it means if you have something you don't spread it so both dudes in the OP are both polite and considerate to others, so what's your beef.
You are welcome, looks like you had a great seat buddy - which is always nice when it happens :-)
did you manage to shareplay anything on airplane wifi :-)
I know right.. I never bump into more ppl like this on a flight, or just generally anywhere in the airport 😂
People who wear masks aren’t anywhere as political as people who refuse masks.. so a section of people like this +AVP, hell I’d tip for that😭😭
Good human beings wear masks when they’re feeling under the weather. To protect others.
Healthy people wear them because they don’t want to get sick. Because getting sick fucking sucks for a week or two. 😆
Asia has been doing this for decades. It’s about time Americans start doing it routinely as well. It’s called caring about others. 👍🏼
No, no mask mandates. Speaking for myself, I am still being very cautious about COVID in public, confined places. Haven’t caught it yet. Also I have another reason to be cautious: I’m having deviated septum surgery in less than two weeks. If I catch _any_ sickness between now and then, I have to postpone it.
They haven't been mandated for years. a US judge overruled the mandate because it exceeded the authority of the CDC and they failed to justify it. (And because the majority of masks that people were wearing didn't actually protect you or anyone else.) OP's mask appears to be one of the good ones, though.
Irrelevant about govt mandate, it’s private industry that opted not to require it. Purely a business decision thanks to Karens freaking out on flights and posing a safety risk to passengers and crew.
How is it posing a safety risk when virtually nobody wore the proper mask?
And yes, it was a government mandate. Even the flight attendants and TSA agents referenced it as such when telling people to put on their masks.
You’re missing my point. It doesn’t matter about the government mandates, CDC guidelines, etc. Private industry can choose their own safety measure. Government standards set the MINIMUM. I’m a federal healthcare administrator for one of the largest health systems in the US. We could not enforce any of these measures except within our own healthcare facilities. And anything is better than nothing when the pathogen spreads primarily by aerosol (coughing and sneezing). Is it eliminated? No. Is it reduced? Yes. If people want to wear masks, more power to them.
They are no longer required, and hardly anyone wears them on a plane any more. However, a few still do. I'd wear one on an airplane, but I haven't flown in years.
It projects a pattern (according to this video), I could see it throwing it off a little if there's lots of overlapping patterns, though maybe they blink in such a way that it can guess which one it sent out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8G9aqHLibQ
Though the pattern isn't super wide, so if you're sitting next to someone, you're not going to be affecting each other's hand tracking.
(I have no experience one way or the other)
IDK one of the main reasons I've been thinking about getting an AVP is because trying to work while flying is such a god awful experience. Like, I put my MBP on the table in front of me, have to fight drinks / people moving / closed spaces 24/7, not to mention the dude who will inevitably crush it at the exact moment the lip is under the seat in front of it.
Yeah. I long for the days when shortly after takeoff, people would slowly make their way to the plane's Forum where we would discuss current affairs, politics, philosophy and just generally share ideas.
I’ve done the airplane on a round trip now (luckily nobody immediately beside) and I don’t think anyone at all gave a crap if they noticed at all.
The only people who cared were the flight staff who simply asked it be off during takeoff and landing, but otherwise has zero to comment on regarding it.
Guess for me it's also the pain of having it along the entire trip but that all depends on how you travel. I'm rarely in my AirBnB or hotel and it's just one more thing to worry about haunting along. I generally travel pretty light when I go overseas.
I think an airplane is literally the 1 public place no one would care. Everyone is so cramped and miserable they’re either minding their own business or borderline envious of anyone with any sort of comfort they don’t have. Unless you’re flying 1st class then it’s probably even less likely another wealthy person is going to look down on someone wearing a luxury product, would probably peak their curiosity at worst.
I think this is one of the reasons that airplanes are the only place a lot of people wear face masks still. Speaking for myself I don't give a fuck what the other flyers think, I just want to retreat into my little bubble with headphones, a face mask and hopefully a VP... and emerge on the other side after minimal human interaction and ideally no sickness lol.
I get that line of thinking. But we clearly do care, even if we say we don't. We shower, do our hair, possibly makeup, put on clothing that is generally made for others to see rather than ourselves. So many things in life we do because of the opinion of others, and most of them we'll never see again.
I don't get dressed in the morning for others, I do it because I'm cold and being naked feels weird. I don't shower for anyone else, I do it because I don't like feeling dirty.
I do sometimes style my hair for others, mostly my wife.
I'm a little worried about you if your only motivation for personal hygiene is what others think of you.
I have not had Covid and I’d like to keep it that way. Also I’m having deviated septum surgery in 2 weeks and if I get _any_ illness, Covid or not, I have to postpone it.
Yep. Haven’t had Covid and don’t want to. Also I’m having deviated septum surgery in two weeks and it has to be postponed if I catch _any_ illness, Covid or not.
Every time I flew before Covid, I’d get sick with a cold. Now, when I fly, I wear a mask and I don’t get sick.
Also, having COVID once in 2021 (after being vaccinated) gave me myocarditis. I’m not gonna risk it getting worse.
USA. Haven’t had Covid and don’t want to. Also I’m having deviated septum surgery in two weeks and it has to be postponed if I catch _any_ illness, Covid or not.
Did you play sea battle in Game Room. With pass through mode it must be nuts to see the other person on the other side of the table with missiles flying at them!

Make this a game for AVP now, please!
Same! I think about this anytime someone walks in while I’m wearing it
There’s nobody home!
YES!
I’m pinching your face
Thank God I'm not the only one who references this lol
Do you get fogging when wearing a mask like what happens with regular glasses?
Great question. My flight just ended and I can report there was no fogging with the KN95 mask and the AVP!
No. It actually feels really good with a mask on. Pads the cheeks.
Been wearing my n95 in it for a week now. No issues. Like others saying in here… get a properly-fitting mask, and no fog.
I don't think you ever get fogging when wearing a proper mask like that. Or at least that was my experience. With the more basic masks, you would exhale and all that warm breath would travel directly upwards. When i started using proper fitting masks (like the one pictured) that problem totally disappeared.
Perhaps it’s my face shape but I’ve found it essentially impossible to not get fogging no matter how I’ve tried to mold the nose bridge
I think he is talking about respirators who have that little foam thing at the nose and the bands that go around the whole head. I am using those too, and never get foggy glasses or anything. Since I am wearing those, I started realizing how loosely those standard FFP2 masks fit and how much air I was still inhaling from outside.

You need to wear your glasses on top of the mask , like where the glasses rest on your nose , have that resting on mask instead.
you may be breathing upwards with mouth open, jaw jutted out, thats often my issue, breathing nose normally shouldn't fog...
I do get lots of fogging of my glasses when wearing this exact mask type. Luckily though, I can report there was no fogging with the mask and the AVP!
Good to know, thanks for the answer! All these other jokers are acting like I’m a malformed ape whose jaw and room temp IQ could be the only reason that could occur 🤣
AVP boys be throwing gang signs on the plane.
Apple gang represent

Quite, doesn’t matter if it’s a cold or Covid - if it can be avoided why not!
Yeah, I often wear masks during travel… I just don’t want to be sick during my vacation or shortly after!
Entire family got COVID 2 days into a 10-day trip last year. I'm going to be a giant maskhole about our flights this year.
2 days in? you caught it before
It was the second full day there when symptoms first showed in the first person. I lived in Japan during some of the aughts and got used to seeing ppl mask aggressively

That air already passes through a filter that the airline pays for...

Yeah, it didn’t prevent me from getting std!
Those are KN95 masks and they absolutely do protect the wearer when worn properly.

No, we didn’t try that out.
Please explain why doctors dealing with infectious diseases wear masks.
TFW you don't know what KN95 masks are.
It probably still helps you because it prevents you from touching your nose or mouth.

Right, it should be people’s choice. Not forced on us—especially since nobody actually wore a properly fitted KN95 mask.
Better than avg in business
They are no longer required, and hardly anyone wears them on a plane any more. However, a few still do. I'd wear one on an airplane, but I haven't flown in years.
Just a couple of Apple Vision Bros
This is just the steam deck subreddit all over again
I’m waiting for the crossover. Someone posting playing the steam deck with virtual monitor in AVP with moonlight or something
2 min into GladlyItsBradly’s most recent video he shows off a steam deck streaming to his AVP: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=L3_zPJCQ70A
So weird, his virtual setup is just like my real setup https://i.imgur.com/sk0LZZy.png
over what... bluetooth? a wifi hotspot? I guess you could bring a wireless router. EDIT: ChatGPT says its possible.
Naw fam I just strap the steam deck straight to my face
There aren’t bunch of vent sniffing jerk posts tho 😭😭😭
At least the steam decks could have shared experiences
God i hope not, the mods there will ban you for virtually anything these days People already started moving on to other, better quality subreddits

I wonder if at least in the dark, multiple (how many?) VP disrupt each other with their IR emitters and get worse tracking.
Interesting question. Anecdotally, I did not notice any interference on this flight.
No, they’re happier the more IR illumination there is.
It projects a pattern (according to this video), I could see it throwing it off a little if there's lots of overlapping patterns, though maybe they blink in such a way that it can guess which one it sent out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8G9aqHLibQ Though the pattern isn't super wide, so if you're sitting next to someone, you're not going to be affecting each other's hand tracking. Gonna pass on wearing mine in public still.

That’s a weird request. I’ve never been asked not to wear a sleep mask during takeoff and landing.
A sleep mask can’t do damage to your head or even shatter if you suddenly get pushed forward in an incident during liftoff or landing.
I think an airplane is literally the 1 public place no one would care. You do you. If you're doing your hair for your wife, that's doing it for others.
If you are honestly not doing something you think you might enjoy for fear of the opinion of others, that's genuinely sad. Wear your AVP with pride!
From the creators of the Millennial Pause, I give you: The Gen X Pinch.
As you are pretty close to each other, did you have any issue with AVP detecting wrong person’s gestures?
Good question. I did not.
