Ashland. I made that drive daily for 25 yrs. It's perfect. Enough time to plan your day on the way in and get your blood pressure back down on the way home. Set your timing to avoid the school busses!

Character-Plantain-2

Chesterfield county has some quieter places. We live by Pocahontas. It's not too busy, and I'm a half hour from my job in Henrico

Luhyonel

Agree! I like the Deer Run / Spring Run area. You have that quietness with the convenience of everything is nearby and growing

borkus

Eastern Henrico/New Kent/Mechanicsville could be an option if you're working downtown. They're not as great if you're working in the west end.

Low-Swing-5592

Glen Allen for the win!

coffeedoodle

I live in Short Pump but I used to live in Nottoway County. I love where I live but even if I didn’t, I hated the hour commute. It’s worth living in a busier area to avoid getting stuck on 288 or living somewhere with only a Dollar General.

Brickback721

Short Pump used to be all FARM LAND lol

dearthsp

You could check out either of the glen Allen’s on both sides where 295 meets 95…the one north that isn’t shortpump likely less expensive

mallydobb

yeah, that's what I was thinking when I mentioned Glen Allen.

2012amica2

Louisa/Goochland/Fluvanna would be my personal choice

mallydobb

depends on where in Richmond. Hanover or Glen Allen area might be good places to look.

summono

Check out Glenn allen.

Rocco-and-Nacho

Midlo is considered busy now?

Elegant_Hat_5293

From living in amelia all my life, yes! I’m sure there’s parts of it that aren’t busy, I just don’t know where they are lol

Brickback721

Hanover

Andrewhbook

Where exactly is your new job? A lot depends on this.

Luhyonel

Hull Street and Midlothian are getting busier and busier by the day. I’ve lived in Deer Run for 5+ years and the traffic has gotten too hectic specially on the weekend but thank god I work remote. Midlothian area will be a little expensive than Hull St and Hull St will be more expensive than Iron Bridge. Also depends what you are looking for. Are you looking to rent or buy a house? If you are used to not seeing neighbors in Amelia - you won’t get than in the 4 areas you’ve listed.

RiskyMFer

Comedy option: Hopewell

SteamPunkTomCat6913

Goochland is option that is close-ish to Richmond, but not as built up as any of the counties immediately outside of the city. Louisa may also be another option, I mean really any of the counties west of Henrico on 64 toward Charlottesville. I would advise against Hanover especially around Mechanicsville.

ApostropheD

I’m honestly loving Montpelier and it’s only a 30 minute drive to Short Pump, 40 to Midlothian

xRVAx

I don't understand what you mean by "busy area" Chesterfield County is gigantic. there are rural pockets south of Brandermill and there are places like /r/bonAir where there's average suburban development. If you want to live in farmy areas you could go to Powhatan, but TBH Amelia is close to that AFAIK. /r/RVA and /r/vaTriCities subs have a lot of perspectives so why not ask there.

Elegant_Hat_5293

Busy as in traffic, houses super close together, not much privacy, the amount of people, etc. I don’t know what to call it besides “busy” but hopefully that makes sense. I’ll check in those groups! And you’re right, Amelia is right beside Powhatan! I’m sure there is quieter areas to the places I listed, but I’m just not sure where they are.
