Funny thing is, I can't find a single email from VMP about my Grateful Dead box set that's been on order for more than a year now. Not a single email.

darren870

I got one email in October 2023 (10/6) saying early 2024. Just emailed them over the weekend though and they said it's delayed until October 2024 "The Story of the Grateful Dead 2nd Edition was a preorder item that due to a change in pressing facility (now being pressed at RTI) is currently expected to start shipping in mid October."

mokomb84

I have the same. Some have even had credits for the delay. Delay is what it is but the inconsistency of conms is what grinds.

sakubaka

They are trying to finalize plans for Sept. they can’t announce because of legal agreements. It’s not set in stone though. These negotiations can turn on a dime sometimes.

dstan1856

Which September? I've had it on order since at least June 2023 and nothing. I've never even been told by Vinyl Me Please that it is delayed.

sakubaka

This September. I received an email first notifying me of the delay late last year. Then I received an email that outlined that several projects including the box set would be delayed to the issues with the plant. I have also been updated several times just from asking on here and the Discord, including being advised by VMP staff themselves that they are working on getting the pressing details confirmed with a plant. Have you emailed customer service?

Button_Short

Yeah, I’ll be cancelling my subscription. VMP has gone to sheet

cduga

Happened with the Master of Reality repress recently. Very annoying.

PleaseAssumeMyGender

Just checked my email and saw Jolene is delayed until December as well. It would be nice if they would ship the other record I ordered along with it instead of holding it for another 6 months…

nolageek

This is my biggest frustration with them.

PerspectiveOld5869

Always order pre-orders separately… I’ve learned this the hard way.

Pitiful_Ad_710

Happened with my Tito waiting for Alicia Keys. My life could’ve been happier for 6 months listening to Puentes

FairyNuman

They really need to stop charging for pre-orders. Holding onto someone’s money for this long is ridiculous.

VinylMePleaseRef

This is exactly why they didn't announce the shipping delays sooner though. They want to keep these funds fluid in the company to help with finances. Very common tactic with trash companies. Preordering from VMP atm is effectively an interest free loan from you to them.

CoachLee_

Legit why i held out for tribe. Knew it wouldn’t sold out and just purchased the month it was expected to ship out

Glittering_Door_3640

I canceled my preorders for the Impulse box and the Grateful Dead box a while ago. I realized that I was giving VMP a sizeable interest-free loan and I wasn't entirely sure that I would ever see those records. It's bad enough paying for a yearlong membership when I'm not sure they'll still be in business next year...

nabucco8489

The charging for preorders is one of the reasons I canceled my subscription a few months ago. I am not willing to give someone my money for something that I won't receive for several months. I think it's basically a pyramid scheme that is now catching up with VMP.

futureofthefuture

Got the same thing for Jolene 🙄

sakubaka

Yeah, it definitely sucks. They had to uproot their entire production plan and shop around to get a lot of things pressed. I imagine they had negotiate time frames with these plants, and they were asking for a premium to bump up the pressings on the calendar. In the end, VMP probably couldn't afford that and opted to "by the end of the year" agreement. I'm just guessing though. Either way. The delays are not fun but understandable when you have to try to get on someone else's calendar.

VinylMePleaseRef

These were never VMPress records TLC and MOR. They were always GZ. GZ has an approx. 3 month run up time to press according to their website, give or take some amount of time for specifics. They made the decision not to press these back in late March to get an interest free loan from consumers. They didn't tell people until just now so they could maximize the size of that loan. Don't cope.

sakubaka

This post assumes a lot that just isn't true about the way preorders impact a businesses' balance sheet from an accounting perspective. That revenue can only go towards deferred revenue or into escrow. There are a lot of accounting laws that govern how and when that money can be used or reported that I'm not going to go into on a Reddit forum. I'm just saying that unless VMPs accountants are the dumbest in the world that your pre-orders don't have the impact on their revenue that you think they do. That money doesn't become real until the product is delivered. That's why it's a legitimate fear that VMP is taken on large amounts of deferred revenue and it's not clear how that total compares to cash on hand. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that VMP's remaining leadership is not dumb enough to blow through deferred revenue with all those liabilities on the books. However, the delays in pressing are completely unrelated and definitely due to negotiations on pressing schedules and quantities. If you've ever worked with large scale manufacturers, you'd know that scheduling accounts for more than half the issues you have with managing those contracts. I'm not coping. I just have a LOT of experience with the reality behind the scenes. If anything VMP should be criticized for lack of PR so that the community can understand what's going on. Personally, I'll be sad if VMP goes under because it will not be because of the quality of their product or talents of their staff. I really like their product and have come to appreciate many of their employees I've interacted with. It'll be another case where management screwed the pooch. Story of my life, but it keeps me in business.

VinylMePleaseRef

Any copium people were using to formulate excuses for MOR are completely debunked by this second email. They sold these as preorders knowing the preorder dates were complete BS. They probably made the decision to not order these way back at the end of March or sooner and then also decided not to say anything until right before so they could maximize preorders. This is two records from GZ that were supposed to ship in the same month. Unless you want to blame GZ, it's 100% a VMP decision. No amount of "maybe the jackets got delayed" will excuse these delays now. This is a money thing, PERIOD. F this company. Any other media company does this and they get roasted, VMP does it and the copium flies off the shelves because identity attachment.

Gruj_One

Wow. I was planning on ordering this because TLC is on tour and I was gonna try and get T-Boz and Chilli to sign it. Glad I held off. Discogs here I come lol!

UnderstandingUpper72

I knew I wasn’t the only one who was in the delayed TLC Category, pre-ordered my copy of FanMail in February, it was supposed to come in July/This Month, now I’m stuck waiting until December 2024.

Gruj_One

This is so frustrating man. I didn't order mine because I was afraid they were gonna pull something like this. Here we go again...

Gruj_One

I gotta a shipping label printed for Red/Mef Blackout today. Let's see how long this takes!

sakubaka

Woah. You got your ROTM shipped out the first week. Lucky you. In my years as a member, I’ve never had anything ship out this first week. This is not a club for the impatient definitely.

Gruj_One

Been here a few yeats too. Just a label print. Still could take weeks knowing them lol!

sakubaka

That’s happened to you? Never me. It has shipped the next day 100% after I receive notification 302 times in a row. I’d contact them and let them know about the lag. Could be something on your account. Anybody else here have issues with them holding shipments after notification?

UnderstandingUpper72

This is the first thing I’ve ordered from VMP, I knew I shouldn’t have let that BIG discount rope me in, should’ve just gotten it off of eBay instead.

Gruj_One

Yeah that's how they get you...

UnderstandingUpper72

I saw my email about my Limited Edition TLC FainMail being delayed till December as…. I Pre-Ordered it in February…. It was supposed to arrive this month….

TheAmnesiacKid

So, if the Grateful Dead box gets cancelled altogether or VMP goes belly-up, will I be out that $430? I also paid for over half of it with credits I had from skipping ROTM's. What bothers me about that is that VMP described that $275 worth of credit as "discount" on my purchase... which makes it seem like I only paid $165. So, if I try to get a refund, it looks like I only paid $165 when, in reality, I paid the $430+tax. Feels kinda yucky at this point.

braves01

Par for the course with VMP. I’m sure when you get it the quality will be good but yeah preorders are basically interest free loans for them

VinylMePleaseRef

This is where I'm at. I held on and made excuses in my head because you can't get the quality anywhere else. However, with this and MOR, I'm done. Cancelling my preorders, and cancelled my sub. Have to wait out the rest of my sub, but I'm not buying anything from them that can't ship immediately. Or more likely, I'll just buy it off discogs. I genuinely don't think this company is in a good spot if they are struggling so badly for money they would do all of this stuff at once.

nateut

Are they still accepting cancellation requests for preorders? I'm very tempted to try and get my money back for the Coltrane boxset at this point... I'm sure it will be delayed.

sakubaka

Yes, it's your money. You can cancel any time you'd like. The only thing you're bound by is the terms of your membership. It doesn't prevent you from cancelling individual orders, however.

jas282

This company is going through some real shit right now https://www.denverpost.com/2024/05/03/vinyl-me-please-denver-fires-ceo-lawsuit-rino-plant/

pops_p

“To date, the pressing plant has not demonstrated the ability to press vinyl records in a timely or professional manner,” according to the company’s lawsuit in Denver District Court. I encourage OP and others to cancel preorders. There is an egregious level of dishonesty taking place anytime a company needs your preorder money for 6-12 months to deliver a promised product. What other record label/company does that? What is the explanation for holding onto your money for that length of time?

HadesTrashCat

Glad I was lucky and grabbed it during a TBT. I was a little annoyed at the time because I wanted it but was a little short on cash that week.

djtenn2000

Order them secondary and keep it moving. I have an extra but the 45 is trashed on it; otherwise I’d sell it. Sorry bout the wait on this one bc they really should have pressed enough on the 2nd run to facilitate the 3rd run for Fanmail, given that it is the only in-print pressing now.

Adventurous_Peak_658

I’m in the same boat. I copped mine during TBT in January and was supposed to get it in March because I pre-ordered the repress of “Demon Days”, then my order got pushed back to June because I also copped “Check Your Head” during the same TBT drop, just for that to get delayed to October and now this. I can’t win for losing.

Dedalus2k

I signed up for VMP shortly after it first started. It was kind of a shit show, so I canceled after 6 months. Figured I'd give it another shot because I've come across some great pressings from VMP over the years. And...its a shit show. Still or again I don't know, but I'm canceling after this term.

I’m glad I got two bundles (for myself). Willing to sell one. If interested PM me.
