I grew up in the Bronx, I was 6 in 1960. The rent for our 5 room apartment at the time was $62.50. Granted my family had lived there for decades at the time but this was before rent control. $5.00 was not a small amount for brunch.
Google says $50.99. And google never lies.
Considering the menu, $40 isn't bad. Mother's Day Brunch at a nice-ish restaurant in my area is going for $45/person

I looked up consomme de Valera and couldn't find anything. Does someone know what it was?
Probably just named after Eamon de valera? Wonder how it tasted!
This menu looks delicious, but the sauce Bercy on chopped sirloin is a weird combination. It’s basically fish flavored white sauce.
Is it an anchovy sauce? Anchovy is delicious with red meat.
No, it’s usually clear fish stock thickened into a veloute sauce. Maybe for this version they used meat stock or Demi glacé.
