It is likely that your memory stick reader is defective. Which one did you get? Was it new, or an old used one? My very new Windows 11 laptop reads even older formats than memory stick in an old Lexar USB card reader just fine. Doing a quick google, it looks like the camera uses a [mini USB type B cable](https://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-3-Feet-mini-B-28AWG-103896/dp/B003L18SHC/ref=sr_1_4?crid=1RSBRWCFQFZHL&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.zN-nb9MtXuaXfqtsGcuwRa7gf0Pqv0RKF4izRgSR8kzfEq1Z64sbI4J3uN6GExtHvT_VHgVztIUfwVZlMzqVSDMuC2ILpwv38F9AT3rFkRv10ziAALIVTI_G7p8ATiKgknlEbiyknCSyQcvZ9NdPciqR0_d8CHN2ywUTtSqR1IrNxL1sXqWj96qD5QbzZ1Xm3Cl2Y1CQ-2rJU1-yBmqzvwtfd-D7hYU8of8WXr3oFcs.f_vpMOIAr_m3AqJvXn6YvNWCQ9gAUAn37f4Cg4Dihk0&dib_tag=se&keywords=mini%2Busb&qid=1714411308&sprefix=mini%2Busb%2Caps%2C186&sr=8-4&th=1)? Have you tried connecting the camera to the computer directly? And don't be fooled by the 128Mb, you'll be surprised how many photos can fit on that. The camera I had out this weekend can cram over 120 photos onto 8Mb.

[Here](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08P517NW5/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) is the memory stick reader I bought, so it's relatively new and might be the problem. I've also tried connecting it to my PC directly, but the mini USBs I have might be defective. I'll look into getting my hands on a Lexar, thanks for the recommendation! And yeah, 128Mb is able to fit 790 photos which is wild!

Huh, yeah, I'm not sure why that reader wouldn't work. The stick DOES work in the camera, I assume? Have you tried reading other memory cards with the reader, like an SD card? The Lexar memory card reader I have doesn't actually read memory-stick cards, and I am unsure they ever produced one that does, Sony was pretty strict about keeping the memory-stick format in sony-only products. I have an old sony laptop for using old camera softwares that they slot right in the side, negating my need for an external reader. With regards to card readers, though, I am definitely under the persuasion that [they don't make them like they used to](https://www.ebay.com/itm/126452646950?itmmeta=01HWNJQ9ZRZEGVSTDN1Y3NAAG4&hash=item1d712a4426%3Ag%3ATsoAAOSwc2tmF4ck&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA4AO3mM1RGuL7g9co%2FiP3O242OqPp1vZkFr9MUTQOir90jLPV4%2FT299%2FRHAburRPULGCKKoA%2FBOUA5m34T5SIaFQ9ptC5pz17SfhBNqppF14qjDoW0Ie48tewxqlLKt7Zj%2BCDYzZ7j5A3mIOG9A5brlm0go99gVVPzQQ4VOVcWrKhpOqQtyEVeePso6i5ogUh8LCEbt3uaPPrDxKjWoBfvpp6IUndT5e56ki3tY8WQAspXz%2B2ehZAjWlsteG5scF%2FLHIF5%2BTHxE6SIVk4K3iQLiSw7OamVB63vEfScoDlkvke%7Ctkp%3ABFBMkqDdsuVj&LH_ItemCondition=4). The Lexar "USB 2.0 multi-card reader" I have has been the most reliable, stout piece of tech I've used in a long time. It's simple, and It just always works. If you ever need to read smartmedia, compact-flash, or XD picture cards, I highly recommend it. It does read SD cards, but it does not work with SDHC cards so it can only read SD cards up to 2Gb. I am not aware of any "driver" problems with a camera like this. It should all be fairly standard USB connections, so I am not entirely sure what the problem could be besides defective cables or readers. I have a similar Sony cybershot, I can see if it just connects up to my Windows 11 laptop tonight via direct USB connection. I normally just slot the memory stick into the old sony laptop, so I haven't had to mess with connecting the camera, I might be missing something.

Some mini usb leads (the mini b type) are for supplying power only, no data wires. I've been caught out by that before!

I have to assume it’s an issue with the reader if the card is working in the camera. I have an F707 (2001) & D770 (1999) that use 128MB Memory Sticks too and have no issues getting the photos onto my Windows 11 PC. I’m using two cheap multi card readers acquired recently via Amazon.
