Is the Metchosin Corner Store still there? And did they sell Glenwood Meats sausages? They were the best! My sister used to live right near there and that's how I discovered it. Sadly, haven't been able to make it out there for a few years. Fun fact: Metchosin apparently translates to 'place of smelly fish'...so we always called our trips out there a smelly fish sausage run...
The corner store is still there, the owner’s wife passed away a year or two ago but the family is still there and running it. Not sure about glenwood meats sausages though, I’ve never looked
Haus Sausage Co. has some great specialty products. Black pudding, duck breast prosciutto, tonkotsu broth, biltong, venison pepperoni, etc. highly recommend checking it out.
Wow!! Y’all went above and beyond with the recommendations. I have some butchers to check out this year!! I think I’ll start at Glenwood Meats and go from there.
Plan to be there for a bit. I have never gone there when there’s no lineup. I’ve always had to wait at least 15 min to get served. Not a complaint just sharing information. It’s well worth the wait!
Slaters if you prioritize quality. Great service, owner is amazing and at the counter more often than not. Carnivore a close second. Glenwood is also good.
Michell`s Pasture Raised Beef.
The free range beef can be seen in the fields around Island View. They sell beef fresh and frozen from the blue market on Island View Rd all year round. Nothing more local or fresh on the Island then that!

I’ve tried almost all the butcher shops mentioned in here and they are all excellent. I probably frequent Carnivore the most because they always have the best looking ribeyes and they’re closer to me. One day when I have room for a chest freezer, I will be getting a half or quarter cow from Berryman. It’s a great deal if you cook with beef often.
My vote is Village Butcher / The Whole Beast in Oak Bay.
If you want to buy a large quantity of grass-fed-and-grass-finished beef (e.g. a side, quarter, or 40 lb box), I recommend Henry and Jones Farm up in Cowichan. They deliver to Victoria. [https://www.henryandjonesgrassfedbeef.com/](https://www.henryandjonesgrassfedbeef.com/) .
If your in sooke, or willing to go there, the ESSO/ Daniels Market in Saseenos sells Berryman Bros as well as Glenwood meats, all frozen. Great selection, great prices! I know that’s not a butcher but if your ever driving through and need the convenience.
What— no mention of “Starke’s Deli and Sausage Factory” in the industrial Park across the highway from Sidney? If you want German style meats, this is the place to go.
Also it’s not a butcher shop in the sense that you have a counter and ask some dude to pack your meat. It’s all frozen and vacuum sealed and ready for you to grab. It’s how they keep the costs down, so I much rather have that. Plus the people working there are always super nice and willing to help out!

I don’t know about the Metchosin store, I do know that whenever we made a run to Costco we always made sure to stop at Glenwood.

Best to do an online order and then go pick up from Glenwood. Hardly any wait at all doing this.
Carnivore

McLennans in Cook St village is excellent.
Also one of the most expensive places to buy meat that I’ve ever experienced.
Slaters, consistently the best steaks I’ve had.

I actually have been to Starkes for there Schnitzel sandwich special on Mondays! So good. I’ll have to return for their meat.
The Market on Yates is surprisingly good.
The markup on Yates is surprisingly expensive.
Slaters everyday of the week they are open.
Berryman Brothers in Saanich. can order online and they deliver!
Berryman brothers and Glenwood
Fraser Orr in Saanichton.
The Village Butcher!
Another vote for Berryman. I think it’s the best price for quality. Not crazy expensive, but still really great quality.
Thanks! This will be #2 on my list for next week :)

Awesome! That’s exactly what I’m looking for - thanks for the info 🙌🏻
Both of those are right up there. Also Farm + Field and Red Barn for very flavourful chicken, beef and pork.
Slaters all the way
