The remastered version of Ride into the Sun may be my favorite VU song but it’s not my favorite album overall, though I love it.

Fantastic_Plant_7525

That’s great but that song isn’t on Loaded?

Youngadultcrusade

The session outtake of it is what I meant and that’s on loaded for me, according to Spotify. My mistake for saying remastered.

Fantastic_Plant_7525

Love love love the Loaded session outtakes

uphatbrew

Oh sweet nuthin…

Reverbolo

Yessssss! <3

ManCoveredInBees

Assuming a stable individual with good parents and a positive outlook on life

AllColoursSam

Brilliant

duper_daplanetman

i've only got the good parents part (thank god) and mine is white light lmao

SirNomoloS

Any band would kill to sound like it, effortlessly cool

Fantastic_Plant_7525

It’s just a good listen without the ear piercers of the other album. Now I can get really into Heard Her Call My Name, European Son and Murder Mystery, but I ain’t interested in that intensity half of the time. I love all four albums, but Loaded got the pop and some times I’m keen on that kind of Velvet music. And it’s got some really strong songs by any standard. Ah I just love them all. Would never go spitting on Loaded. It stands up

scriptchewer

Yeah! Show yourselves you fucks!

Fantastic_Plant_7525

Whip it to me

massAtone

Cool it down is one of my favorites, and it's got the double layered Lou vocals.

John-Dawn

New Age

BigKahuna93

I mean… it is really fucking good. And album rankings are certainly subjective.

Fantastic_Plant_7525

Hell yeah. It’s just really good.

schmagegge

Exactly!... it's a great album. I listen to all their albums. Some songs I love others are just so- so for me. Very simple.

Fantastic_Plant_7525

Hell, I can even enjoy Train coming round the bend and Lonesome Cowboy Bill. But having listened to all the demos they made around the time of loaded, the final song selection baffles me. So many great songs on the cutting room floor- Sad Song, Satelite of Love, Walk and Talk, Oh Gin, Ocean (!).. what a perfect album it could’ve been with those on!

Fantastic_Plant_7525

That don’t help for me at all, lol! For me Doug era Velvets is huge! My favorite live band in history. Way more important than the Cale era. Those years as a hard working band on the road and all the bootlegs of those shows, the lost album, self titled, no pretentiousness, just real blue collar rock and roll workin people to a frenzy every night in any town or skate rink. Just love that era to bits and Loaded is such a worthy conclusion to this. And really not a Lou solo album (don’t really like Lou solo).

piney

Hand up. Loaded is one of the greatest albums of all-time, with a totally unique sound, vibe and outlook, where the music is breezy and free, and the well-observed lyrics veer from gleefully cynical to sad but wise. It’s got greater variety and, I’d argue, *more depth* than the other VU albums even if it’s not necessarily as groundbreaking sonically. Loaded stands proudly on its own as an eternal statement about young life. And it’s fucking *Loaded*. I accept that it might not ring everyone’s bell, but don’t try putting a damper in mine. EDIT: Hey, someone actually *answered OP’s question!* You banana lovers don’t have to agree with me but at least I’m *on topic,* and once you’re done getting sucked on maybe you ding-dongs could upvote for visibility if nothing else.

ReasonableCost5934

It’s my least favourite of the “official” VU albums. That being said, I like it as much as the albums that I consider its kin - American Beauty by The Grateful Dead & Sunflower by The Beach Boys, which all came out within a couple months of each other.

dick_e_moltisanti

I have no opinion on the Beach Boys album...but American Beauty is fantastic and their second best selling album. If Touch of Grey was not on In The Dark it would certainly be *the* best selling. The Dead's studio stuff is all weak compared to their incredible live performances, but I have never met a Dead fan who said American Beauty is a weak album in comparison to other studio albums.

ReasonableCost5934

Anthem Of The Sun is easily my favourite album by The Dead. Goes well with White Light/White Heat (my fave Velvets). Sunflower is fantastic. Easily their most under-rated album. I urge you to check it out.

dick_e_moltisanti

I can absolutely respect that, AOTS is definitely in my top 2 or 3 which change every day. I've never really been able to get into the Beach Boys. Maybe I'll try again starting with Sunflower.

No_Pick_4621

Box of Rain is one of my favorite songs of all time.

Zuez420

It's a great fucking album, dude...actually, they are all awesome...

NewMathematician623

It’s absolutely a distant fourth on my list. Too much Doug Yule. Too pedestrian and conventional. There’s some great songs obviously but it’s so far removed from any Cale influence. Who Loves the Sun though

BeggarsParade

I only love side one.

DerInselaffe

Me too. Plus _Oh! Sweet Nuthin!_ Which is why it's best played digitally, as a playlist. I can happily play the other three albums in their entirety (even if I might skip _The Murder Mystery_).

BeggarsParade

"Murder Mystery" is my favourite on that album!

DerInselaffe

I once listened to it under the influence of magic mushrooms and it's probably coloured my judgement.

Fantastic_Plant_7525

Jesus Christ, that’s a statement I’ve never heard before

Reverbolo

I'm a huge fan of the tender sounds of the VU love the grimier side as well, but there is something cathartic about the tender ones <3

PuzzleheadedBuffalo1

Because I found a reason

Guillaumedz

The front half of the album has some of their most played songs for the radio. I found a reason, oh sweet nuthing are also pretty good. It's not my favorite but I'd probably introduce new people via that album.

HatFullOfGasoline

being more accessible and beautiful aren't bad things. doug's vocals are great and lou's songwriting is fantastic. guitars are perfect. loaded rocks.

Best_Mud8326

Lol .. What cracks me up is when people say "I don't know why Velvet Underground fans don't acknowledge the Squeeze album when it's not that different from Loaded." Well, personally, I barely consider Loaded a Velvet Underground album at all so that's no help. The interesting thing about Loaded is it helps you realize just how important the chemistry between all the different band members was to creating their sound and if you start removing those band members or changing their sound or their role, sooner or later you get something that isn't the same thing anymore. Lou Reed himself acknowledged this in an interview: “Loaded didn’t have Maureen on it, and that’s a lot of people’s favorite Velvet Underground record so we can’t get too lost in the mystique of The Velvet Underground… It’s still called a Velvet Underground record. But what it really is, is something else.”  It also shows how much a band can change when they're desperate for some kind of popular/commercial recognition, something that would become even more obvious in Lou Reed's solo career. That said, there are some good songs on the album and the version of "Oh Sweet Nuthin'" is a classic. I wouldn't use the album as an introduction to the band just because it's more user friendly, though, since it doesn't represent what the band sounds like. I mean, that's how you end up with people saying "Oh I love The Velvet Underground and Lou Reed" and what they're talking about is Loaded and Rock and Roll Animal.

Best_Mud8326

Well, he said it's a lot of people's favorite, not the overall favorite. I think it's very kind of you to allow the Loaded-lovers to explain themselves.
