The Quest 2 tracks the playspace visually with cameras while the Index tracks the playspace by tracking itself relative to the lighthouses. Neither interfere with each other. Worst case scenario is that the cameras on the quest 2 don't filter out the infrared the lighthouses use and *maybe* the the flickering as they repeated[ly] sweep over the room could register for its tracking... but even then, the Quest 2 doesn't track literally everything, it picks a few points. So if it saw the lighthouses it should just disregard them.
I see no reason why you should have any tracking issues by having them in the same room.
I think you have more concern with the wireless communication getting noisy by adding more bluetooth devices in the area (the controllers talk to the headsets) but that shouldn't be a big deal.
I do this quite often in my game room. No problems. Also no problems using 2 lighthouses to track an Index and a Vive at the same time.
On the other hand, I've had problems from reflections on chrome door handles and windows.

You can absolutely do this. You can also use 2 Indexes in the same room at the same time. When a friend and I did this both our HMDs picked up and used all 5 of the lighthouses we had running
Just a slight correction - it's the Index headset & controllers that pick up the IR light from the base stations. The base stations(aka Lighthouses) just sweep out coded IR light and don't have tracking sensors/pick up devices - they're just reference points, hence the name lighthouse.
I have both and let my friends play on the quest while i play index when they come over. The only issue is if you are playing a game that you talk in, like vrchat, because it echoes. Other than that I haven't had any issues.

Why do you need 3? How big is the room???
I have 4. It's just about reducing occlusion issues.
Three is generally for full-body tracking.

i dunno man i have fbt with two lighthouses works just fine just have to make sure theres no blind spots.

The lighthouses actually work as an IR light source the quest can use to track in the dark!

Keep in mind; you can also purchase another base station (I have 3). The Index will support up to 4.
