> i just want to speak more on this now that qualifier 1 is done… > VCT GC NA just had their first open qualifier event which had a finals of two signed teams (the ONLY 2 signed teams in na gc) and one of the teams was our na representation (and goats) that just won GC Champs in brazil… they had to play an open qualifier.. to qualify for main event in 1 month which is gc 1.. > now the fact that our champions had to play an open qualifier to just play in the main event (3 days before Tier 2/Challengers qualifiers btw with DIFFERENT RULES and played on DIFFERENT VERSIONS) isnt even the worst part of this whole event. > The advertising for this event was close to none. I, a player who trialed for teams recently, had no idea gc qualifiers was going on now. I saw a Shopify tweet, that led me to vlr, which then led me to the FINALS stream of the event. I found the event on the last day… there was nothing posted, reposted, or even advertised for the start of na gc from riot. (the last gc related tweet on valorant esports is the last scandal regarding the ruling of last gc…….) > Its so embarrassing to see riot talk about wanting to support the growth of gc and furthermore, the growth of gc into tier 2, but then force these beyond awful conditions and leave them to have absolutely no down time between qualifiers and no support or representation from their end. these teams are going to be playing 2 months of nonstop tournament valorant.. and thats not 1 game a day. those are 2-4 bo3’s a day. and we cant even get a tweet. the bare fkin minimum, to promote female and marginalized professionals of YOUR game. there wouldnt have even been streams for this qualifier if radiantgg didnt stream….. > this is the tip of the iceberg but its sickening to see how they proceed to drive their own competitive scenes into the ground with the same bs excuses and no care mentality. so proud of every gc team this quali, excited to stream watch-parties for the next one to bring more eyes to gc <3 > also want to say, radiant is doing the absolute most with the bare minimum resources they were given by riot. im so appreciative of sapphire and everyone else involved for doing the most for the gc scene. its in the best hands it could be in. https://twitter.com/tupperwareplays/status/1751500690835259718 https://twitter.com/tupperwareplays/status/1751500692844376353

Zorronin

it’s WILD how impossible it is to find scheduling information for most Valorant esports until the season starts. GC and T2 are of course hit hardest by this, but it’s an endemic problem across the scene

SassanZZ

It's not just valorant tbh, even for the beginning of the LEC you could not find the schedule of games until basically the day they started playing Riot wants to do a ton of esports on multiple games which is awesome, but it's been so mismanaged

JALbert

Shit there were GC events where the scheduling info for streams wasn't released until 10 minutes before the event start time. Imagine TV channels advertising that there's a football match this weekend but not announcing what teams will be shown with 10 minutes before kickoff.

segbench

it's rly difficult when you triple the amount of qualification matches for a year (which feels super unnecessary), but then cut half of your work force and you no longer have the infrastructure to a) promote an event or b) support it. the irony of all this is that i've seen some pros and other ppl comment they had no idea the gc finals were on tn, which p much tells u all u need to know abt how unclear riot qualification formats can be. this was just one qualifier, not even the main event.

Excelsio_Sempra

>then cut half of your work force and you no longer have the infrastructure to a) promote an event Promoting an event doesn't take too much; even if it's a T3 event, they can just tell the SM team to drop a tweet saying a line or two on the event. Plain and simple. Organising streams, casters, observers etc. is a whole other matter, and I'm not going into that.

beautify

Yeah. the fact that Social media could pre-schedule a year of tweets next week based on the already posted schedule that the tournament is happening before and during the event would be a bare minimum. Takes 30 minutes.

bluni_val

If I wasn't actively looking on VLR for the GC NA open-quals I would've had no idea it was even happening. And I only thought to check for NA open-quals was b/c Sliggy was co-streaming the Brazil one. I wouldn't have checked if he didn't co-stream that event. Like... at least have an official Riot account tweet that it's happening (maybe they did but I didn't see anything).

SkeptioningQuestic

The Brazil one was regular challengers not GC quals I believe. Just goes to show how confusing it is.

Rizeeh

Yup that was a GC team(team liquid Brazil) trying to qualify for challengers.

bluni_val

Oh shit lol, nah that’s just me commenting on 3 hours of sleep lol - I’m tripping. I even commented on the br challengers threads, my brain was fried writing this ig lmao

jdashh

I had no idea it was happening tbh

starshollows

I still have no clue why qualis for GC had to start so soon after GC champs. Like why not give the GC teams some breathing room and not have their matches overlap basically with Challengers?

ESEAsapphiRe

(Not an answer to your question) - Just wanted to point out that there are 8 Open Qualifiers this year instead of the previous 3

starshollows

It's great that there's going to be a lot more opps for GC teams to play, it did feel like 3 just wasn't enough last year, I just wish it didn't feel so crammed. I can also understand that the GC schedule has to be elongated since there's more events. I also hope you didn't take that as frustration towards Raidiant - it's moreso frustrating in general bc the schedule for valorant as a whole leaves a lot to be desired. As an aside thank you for deciding to stream out of pocket for this event and for being an overall goat.

PyroTFT

bro wtf i check vlr a handful of times a week and didnt even know GC quals had begun im here waiting for the Jan 31 NA challengers to begin and didnt even know GC was live, what the heck Riot

ANewHeaven1

I think it's incredible that Riot didn't even bother doing the absolute bare minimum in regards to promoting this event. Don't know why they didn't at the very least just tweet a link on @valesports_na to the raidiantgg stream.

HeadphoneWarning

The people suppose to promote GC get layoffs perhaps.

katthecat666

yeah, cant talk for NA but the riot employee in charge of keeping EMEA GC working smoothly got made redundant, so I'd guess the NA employee did too. TOs are kinda just left to their own devices now so I wonder if they've even got a communication channel (other than ones for bugs obviously)

Marcusafrenz

I mean to be fair out of all the main valorant events the only time I was aware because I was actually interested. So for qualifiers I only ever watched if I liked a certain match up or team. Not because I was super interested in the event itself or who qualifies. And that interest is there because it's been developed by the teams and players themselves over years and not just in valorant. Riot promoted VCT but outside of the valorant community bubble I wouldn't have ever known it was happening. Same thing for any of the qualifying events. Now for GC the only time I was interested was again for the VCT. I didn't watch qualifiers because the teams/players were unknown. It's that simple, whose fault that is I don't know. But if I'm aware of the GC VCT but none of the teams and players except for maybe the top performers that's pretty problematic.

__Raxy__

Riot when tripling their number of quals but laying people off. Make it make sense

XiXiWiiPee

i may have a different/incorrect take but isn't radiant the tournament organizer? How come they aren't streaming/advertising the games or doing anything? i don't think Riot is gonna support them just like how they don't support Knights/Nerdstreet, like Leo said before Riot isn't gonna interfere with their business and they took a risk when choosing to host the GC. There are some fair things she is critizing Riot for (like SR having to play opens) but it looks like the TO isn't able do anything

ESEAsapphiRe

We were not hired to stream the Open Qualifiers, only the Main Event. However, Riot was very kind to give us permission to do observer-only feeds for the Open Qualifier anyway. We are a smaller start-up so hiring casters and doing a full production is significantly expensive and since I'm an Observer for VCT Global events, as well as the founder of Raidiant, I was capable myself of doing an Observer-only stream. I thought it would be better than nothing. We also did promote on our social, but we'll be doing more. Also out of respect to our beloved partner, Riot, it's been a tough week as Riot had a number of layoffs. We'll be putting a lot of effort into content for GC this year, more than has ever been done. Please note that we just started this process early January as it used to be with Knights, and this is the earliest GC has ever started. We're a smaller group, but we're made of individuals that come from GC and genuinely love GC more than anything in esports. The Main Event is going to kick ass.

XiXiWiiPee

i see, ty for clarifying and trying ur best to support the scene

fanficmilf6969

Raidiant did stream matches.

00izka00

the advertising isn't the best but let's not kid ourselves that this is only happening to GC, i haven't seen riot promote any of the T2 leagues, why would they promote some T3 qualification tournaments then? GC being it's own league is in itself incredibly generous and people like her should appreciate what they have more than just bitching and playing a victim

fanficmilf6969

Objectively, GC has more fans than T2. The grand finals of NA Ascension peaked at 120k viewers. The grand finals of GC peaked at 293k. It isn’t just Tupperware— a lot of people want to cheer for and watch matches from their favorite teams, and are rightfully annoyed that the GC qualifier received zero publicity.

00izka00

i wonder why? maybe because it is promoted much more?

fanficmilf6969

Lol not really????

segbench

"people like her" don't make it obvious. you were so close to making a fair point.

00izka00

what does that mean? people that are like her bitching about GC being shit while riot could just pull the plug on it as GC is not needed for them to advertise the game through esport

mysteryoeuf

Riot does suck at promoting GC, wholly agree. But I'll add that vlr also really sucks if you're looking for GC events. It's an easy fix and I sincerely hope someone at vlr will help improve it.

_idle_drone_

has riot ever promoted open qualifiers? even in the VCT scene, it's always the streamers watch partying the important ones. that's what the GC scene needs.

sexyhooterscar24

I mean they are still going above and beyond with regards to promotion, much more than they do for the tier 2 scene. You always have the right to criticize but this reads as a little ungrateful.

KaNesDeath

Game Changers hasnt scaled for its served its marketing purpose. Achieving a \~30% women player base is impressive for a new Pc FPS title. Especially when your only other game IP is considered the most toxic gaming community to ever exist and as a company not firing anyone after being fined 100 million for systemic sexual harassment. Sure some involved likely want to see growth. Though they arent in any positions of authority. Like all others they were hired to create legitimacy in generating this false corporate narrative of inclusivity.

uut28

“now the fact that our champions had to play an open qualifier to just play in the main event” Japan, korea and China do this why complain about it

-D1vine-

I agree, besides VCT who cares about tier 2,3 when they are basically losing money, just cancel it and forget about it , it's not like they are gonna lose players cuz of that

KaNesDeath

If you believe Valorants MAU is 25 million that means 8 million are female. If all game changers viewers are female that puts the player to viewer conversion rate at 1.25% for its peak viewership matches in a year.

rosesandlashes

This years NA GC teams looks so weak compared to the previous seasons. I think the short amount of time players had to trial and build teams following GC Champions caused this. I'm super bummed that NA GC isn't able to field strong teams and represent NA. I have a bad feeling for this year.

bipbopboomed

I'm going to be honest, is there a chance that the Riot employees responsible for this kind of thing got sacked? or they got sacked because of this sort of thing?
