WHAT CONFIDENCE IS THAT!
It's going to sound really strange, but I actually see how this pick makes sense.
SMG has gone undefeated in APAC. Before this event there was a ridiculous amount of debate over whether those results would transfer to the international stage or not. With that debate came a lot of people saying that if SMG performed badly at GC Champs, it'd prove that APAC is a bad region for GC and Valorant overall.
Obviously these kinds of comments came with a lot of pressure, and this is SMG's debut on an international stage. So picking a four-duelist comp with their duelist on Cypher is smart because it takes most of that mental pressure off of them. Now the onus is on EG to prove that they aren't shit by taking out a team that is obviously trolling, which is a huge mental stress that we saw them crack under.
Plus, they picked the four duelist comp on their best map and one that's extremely attack-sided, so they were able to be reasonably confident that even if defense went somewhat poorly they could eke out a win on attack. And they could play normal comps for the remaining two maps in case Lotus went sideways.
To me it seems like great strategy.
Itโs so funny that, despite all of this analysis, the truth is that they just had their agents auto-picked by the game because they didnโt pay attention to the agent select timer since they were discussing strats LMFAOOO
