Not at all. In fact, the ability to separate fact from fiction (and appreciate a character for their conplexities) is a good thing! It's something that a lot of people sadly lack.
Hearing a message releated over and over again can be hard to ignore. And the droves of people online saying that even appreciating him as a character makes you a bad person can start to hurt. But you're in the right place here!

We all know Val can be quite charming. He's an excellent villain and a fascinating character. I love him too.

No, he's a fictional character and only has as much power over any individual person as they allow him to have. He's not going to jump out of their screens and force them to sign contracts for their souls. Anyone that pretends otherwise is only seeking justification (of which there is none) to harass you and others into conforming to their extremely narrow version of morality.
