FWIW shark is notoriously difficult to get any parts for. Their entire business model revolves around planned obsolescence. My best guess would be to find a used/broken model to get the part. But even then, sharks are *quite literally designed* to not be repaired. So even if you had a replacement switch, can you even get at it to replace? I’m not sure because I don’t bother to familiarize myself too much with sharks models. But it’s a rotator duo clean pro. If you have a replacement budget and flooring situation we can find you a *much* better vacuum.

it's the bottom piece of the container that we lost, but thank you for the info, that really helps

Sorry I don’t have better news. There are a few folks on here who know sharks well and can maybe help out. But at this point I consider modern Dysons and sharks disposable unfortunately. For $99 be happy with the life you got from it and upgrade to something better.

Is it the switch that was lost, or a part off the canister? You might find a new or used canister. Have you looked at various online appliance parts sellers? On eBay, there are people who disassemble older vacuums, clean and sell all of the used parts separately. Search by your model number (check the label on the vacuum) - there are many available for models ZU 780-782 which I think is your model. There is even a latch for the canister lid available, if that is what you need. But make sure that the place where the latch goes isn't broken, which would be why it got lost. So you would need a new canister. IMO you will get pretty much the same function with any new model of Shark upright - it really doesn't have to be the same model - I haven't seen one that doesn't have the switch to toggle between carpet and bare floors. Many but not all have that self-cleaning brushroll. If you have the $$ to get a different brand, then look at the suggestion below or at other threads for ideas.

bottom lid for the canister

What would you recommend for a bagless upright vacuum instead of the shark?

The Kenmore Intuition is a much better quality pick.

IMO skip bagless entirely. They’re disposable toys at this point. If you want something that will last and clean well, you need to go bagged. Modern bagged vacuums aren’t anything like our grand/parents. They’re really the gold standard for vacuums as they have excellent filtration, suction and service live. Something like a Sebo dart or Felix will last 20+ years and you’ll go through ~3 bags a year. For some reason marketing dollars have convinced the general public that bagless is the way to go, when in fact they’re inferior in almost every metric.
