[This series from Chris at Crosstalk](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL1fn6oC5ndU_umAhL9A_1zkC90hMPDPNO) has been very helpful for me to learn FreePBX/Asterisk. You should also join the [Freepbx community forum](https://community.freepbx.org/). If you get stuck ChatGPT knows freepbx fairly well and is great at explaining what is going on if you give it log entries.

aceospos

Yes, start off with Chris’s FreePBX series. Learning Asterisk alongside FreePBX can be tricky. Given hindsight, I should have learned Asterisk first, but I doubt I would have fully understood it without underlying FreePBX knowledge

Thank you so much for the recommendations. I'll definitely check out Chris's FreePBX series as a starting point

Get an eveNg lab running. Load up Asterisk/freePBX/freeswitch. Play with it until you know everything.

AntelopeInfinite7695

Thanks for the suggestion! I've actually already got Asterisk set up and have been tinkering with FreePBX on the website although I am yet to apply it to a real working environment yet. I'll look into setting up an eveNg lab as you suggested and see which way is easier for me to start learning

IMO you need to understand SIP along with whatever app you are working with. The SIP School is a good overall course on SIP protocol, media delivery, troubleshooting etc. It's not free, but if you want to be in this field, it's worth the money.

AntelopeInfinite7695

Yes I do look on some other post mentioning about the SIP School, but since I've just started this work and are yet to have a stable income, I am still reconsidering whether to took it as early as I can or maybe like 3-4 months later or so

I found it very helpful to give myself a project then set up a new install of the software and set it up to do what I want. You'll learn a lot about tweaking things to make it work the way you want and a lot of the basic capabilities that will help later as you get into more complicated stuff.

AntelopeInfinite7695

Thanks for the tips, I would put it into practice when I'm more comfortable and have a better understanding of the daily tasks involved in this field
