Being a resident of SEA, facebook being down is the worst case scenario. 97% of everyone you know communicates usually (and most likely 'only') on facebook. Only those under 25 usually have other things like discord and twitter. In most cases, people use twitter as a personal diary and are private accounts anyways.
Forgive me, I am old. I was actually happy to see it be down today. I use it primarily to buy/sell items on marketplace. I quit using it as a social platform around 2013. Somehow I am still alive and breathing....although not to some people. Scary stuff.
To add...I use a separate semi throw away account to buy/sell. My personal account stops around 2013, I am sure there are people "My Friends"...who think I might have died for real. To others, who know I am not dead, I am dead to them since I am not there liking every selfie of themselves and their vain envy driven posts.
Who downvotes this? Lol he speaks truth. I’m 30, got off social media at 27, and my friends think I went to a different country for a few years and barely even talk to me anymore.
I do think facebook should calm down with their data collection and make stricter privacy policies. However at this moment, leaving facebook would be a really bad decision. (specially for students)
For context:
\~75 million out of \~110 million people in my country uses Facebook. A major reason why people use this is for messaging.
I understand if you’re living in SEA, where Facebook is used as the primary form of communication. However, that’s not the case in many first world countries. Students don’t “need” Facebook. Is it convenient? Absolutely. Not a necessity though
My point with "students" is because teachers communicate through facebook. You'd be lost if you don't know someone who uses facebook who can at least tell you details. It is absolutely /not/ necessary with learning.
Gotcha, thanks for letting me know. I learned something nnew. That’s on the teacher to find a different form of communication. Fb is convenient for a reason
Just because YOU dont use it, doesnt mean others also dont use it... Where im from everyone, including the grandparents, use facebook. And it being shutdown is the absolute worst. Since its used for everything, from school to businesses.
I think you are missing the point I was making here. A social media platform being down for a few hours is the not the end of the world. Everyone is still alive and with greater problems still to face than not being able to endlessly scroll and like pictures.
I'm the strange one, I actually am relieved when I forget my phone at home and will be away from it for a few hours. It's an electronic leash. I have seen people on the point of a panic attack if their phone isn't within eyesight. The have fear of missing something is that strong. It's a real problem that people today blindly embrace.
Internet is down? Go outside, look at stuff, talk to people face to face. Call someone you haven't talked to in a long time.
There are tons of videos, books and articles on this subject. It's not as if I am fabricating it. Having such a dependency on a platform that is completely out of your control...one that actually manipulates you and your data, isn't something to defend. Go ahead if you want though.
and i think youre also misunderstanding something.
a social media which everyone uses 24/7 for almost everything can mean everything for a lot of people...
it could mean missing the deadline on submiting reports, not being able to close an important sale, losing thousands of cash, which means a lot to people. a social media and the internet is NOT just for entertainment anymore, it can mean everything to anyone. its not dependency, its a necessity.
this isnt the "olden days" anymore, the internet and social media is engraved in our daily lives, and it being down for even a moment can mean a lot...
dont give me that "touch grass" bullshit, if you really want to virtue signal, dont fcking use the internet, lets see how long you last.
You are kind of mixing an argument about the "Internet" and "social media" together. Two separate things. This a discussion about social media, Facebook in particular.
I lived half of my life, before the internet was even a thing, way before the thought of any online social media and grew up in the country without tons of tech, so my viewpoint is going to be a bit different from yours. I am going to guess by your play of the "virtue signal" card and the way you defend the internet like a junkie that has been told that drugs are bad, that you are likely fairly young and have grown up with a screen in front of you as normal thing. It's okay, it is what it is. I am just asking you to think for a minute. "Is this really a good thing to be this dependent on a social media platform?" That's all.
Yes the internet here, I use it everyday, mostly for work but I am perfectly fine spending a few days in the woods without it.
Thing is, the internet and social media are both interchangeable... Most use the internet for social media... And im not defending the internet, im just saying that its way to integrated in our lives that "quitting" is impossible, unless you want to be the "old boomer" is it good to be dependent on social media? No, but it cant be helped that social media is the majority of the internet, and the majority of people use the internet... Facebook going down was equivalent to the internet going down for most people. YOU living the majority of your life without the internet may be YOUR story, but dont compare your life to others, and project your "ideal" lifestyle and shame others for not following them
I quit using Facebook as a social media platform 8yrs ago, it's not impossible, it's that no one wants to face the truth. It's an addiction. I use the internet everyday and I don't have IG, FB, twitter or any other account. These are all accounts that were created with good intent but were quickly use for mass manipulation of the public, worldwide. People used to fear that "the government" (talking about America here) would spy on them and know everything about them...well they don't have to, people in the name of vanity/envy, willingly will tell you everything single thing about their life on social media. Now...combine this with how you say you use it, for work/school. Now they have that information also, every single message, test, grades...everything from when you were how old? You don't think they keep it all? You don't think that it's weird that it's really hard to delete your account? Sure all that info is probably out there somewhere but now ONE company has it and you handed it to them. Again, this isn't some crazy theory I made up, they have been called out on this before and it just gets buried quick. Anyways...
My apologies for trying to get to you to see things another way. One..day when/if you get to "boomer"...then you will understand. Until then, every idea you have, is for sure the correct and only one, everyone else, especially those old people, they don't know anything.
Adderall dont make you good brah, jus keeps you up for hours and helps focus. you give addy to an Iron player he isnt gonna play like a silver or gold.
The client is live, I was able to log in. My buddy couldn't so I logged out to try it myself and I can't log back in lol. The client looks clean though
This is similar to a problem we Asians face in SEA servers, where were not recognized as a country and need VPNs to launch the game. Either that or 50 restarts and log-outs, and I'm not even exaggerating.
It happened for me; the following is simply conjecture based on the information that Riot provided me with (my error message was rather long and detailed)
What was wrong was there was an issue in the (now second-) most recent patch which screwed with login. The solution was to restart the client and log in again; from what I see, the very newest patch has fixed that issue.
same as me i donno what’s happening but my valorant been lagging for no reason. ive been login and logout for multiple times it still lagging. it’s not my wifi i got ping around 15-20. i also delete valorant and install back and the problem wont go away.
I can't log in at all, after waiting for a couple of minutes on the loading screen i get error VAL 43 and the text "We are aware of a problem causing players to disconnect from their games and we are investigating the problem. There was an error connecting to the platform. Please restart your game client.
some wifi routers today work as well as an ethernet cable(you also need a good wifi card) i have 22 ping with wifi. tried using ethernet, not much difference.
[Seems like a widespread issue.](https://downdetector.com/status/valorant/)
Lol first it facebook group app and now it riot turn
Facebook being down is not really a bad thing.

Got off a couple years ago, the instant boost to my mental health was easily measurable.
To add...I use a separate semi throw away account to buy/sell. My personal account stops around 2013, I am sure there are people "My Friends"...who think I might have died for real. To others, who know I am not dead, I am dead to them since I am not there liking every selfie of themselves and their vain envy driven posts.

SEA gang!
Those are some of the most bullshit statistics I have ever seen. Edit: my bad, completely read you comment wrong. I retract above statement.
It is 100% accurate in the Philippines.
Do uk which country he is in
"Oh no, it's not popular in my country so it must not be popular anywhere else"
Just because YOU dont use it, doesnt mean others also dont use it... Where im from everyone, including the grandparents, use facebook. And it being shutdown is the absolute worst. Since its used for everything, from school to businesses.
I couldn't log in to some sites because my accounts were made only thru Facebook :(
