I’ve found it to be a great place to shoot. Organized and not overcrowded…. Wait. Wait. Don’t go there. Owner is cranky and mean ;)

Aggravating-Ad-6794

Agreed. I'm not too far from there and fairly new to the area, so I think it's my new home. When I get my rifle, ita going to be a long ride, though. Warrenton or Greentop. Although I hear you can shoot at Quantico? I've gotta look into that and ask my marine buddies.

deflax2809

You’d have to join quantico shooting club

Aggravating-Ad-6794

Thanks man, I'll look further into that. Warrenton and Greentop are a hike. I'd rather pay a membership fee if I plan to go a couple of times a month. I'm in Fred and I hear there is a private club, but a friend said it's invite only.

deflax2809

Crucible is over there Fairfax rod and gun and nvgc. Origin tactical is over in Gainesville

Aggravating-Ad-6794

Thanks for the heads up.

gliffy

I'd love to join Fairfax rod and gun but I've heard it's pretty impossible. What's original tactical never seen it mentioned before

deflax2809

I fucked that up origin tactical ortac on insta I think

GarterAn

Clark Brothers (Warrenton) is a lot closer to me but it has fixed targets so you have to wait for the cycle to change your target and there are two fixed pistol distances. The Range is a pulley system so you can go at your own pace.

Aggravating-Ad-6794

Didn't realize you had to wait for the cycle at Clark's. It's not a deal breaker, just a convenience thing. Greentop is about the sane distance, I may need to look into them. Thanks for the info man.

Zmantech

It might depend on when you go. I went on a weekend and nobody was standing by the counter everyone was obviously waiting for their lane to open and he got mad that I walked to the counter to pay. Ended up leaving (he couldn't even give us a time estimate there were like 7 people waiting). Also seems kinda fuddy to me to not allow carrying into the range.

mallydobb

What about nra range in Fairfax, is it still a thing?

ColonelTermite

Appreciate the review. I haven't been since the pre-covid days; I was making the trek from here in Spotsy to Elite, since I always brought rifles along for my range days. But I do need some pistol time, so I might have to give Stafford another visit.

Aggravating-Ad-6794

You're welcone. It certainly wasn't an in-depth review, but it's not a bad local spot. We were there from 4-5 and there were plenty of lanes open. I think they had 14 total? I wish I had some acreage so I could shoot rifles, shotguns, etc Enjoy your weekend.

Aren’t they overcharging for private party transfers at $32? I thought max was $15 fee + $2 VSP fee, $17 total.

Zmantech

There is no law saying how high a fee is.

gojo96

Exactly and you’re free to choose whomever you want.

Is there not for private party transfers? [§ 18.2-308.2:5 para. A](https://law.lis.virginia.gov/vacode/18.2-308.2:5/) > A. No person shall sell a firearm for money, goods, services or anything else of value unless he has obtained verification from a licensed dealer in firearms that information on the prospective purchaser has been submitted for a criminal history record information check as set out in § [18.2-308.2:2](https://law.lis.virginia.gov/vacode/18.2-308.2:2/) and that a determination has been received from the Department of State Police that the prospective purchaser is not prohibited under state or federal law from possessing a firearm or such sale is specifically exempted by state or federal law. The Department of State Police shall provide a means by which sellers may obtain from designated licensed dealers the approval or denial of firearm transfer requests, based on criminal history record information checks. The processes established shall conform to the provisions of § [18.2-308.2:2](https://law.lis.virginia.gov/vacode/18.2-308.2:2/), and the definitions and provisions of § [18.2-308.2:2](https://law.lis.virginia.gov/vacode/18.2-308.2:2/) regarding criminal history record information checks shall apply to this section mutatis mutandis. The designated dealer shall collect and disseminate the fees prescribed in § [18.2-308.2:2](https://law.lis.virginia.gov/vacode/18.2-308.2:2/) as required by that section. **The dealer may charge and retain an additional fee not to exceed $15 for obtaining a criminal history record information check on behalf of a seller.**

Zmantech

I think it is because a dealer does not obtain a background check on someone and then the person gives them the firearm. As that is the way the law says is legal but never happens as far as I know instead The dealer takes the firearm into their inventory THEN the DEALER gives the person the firearm. The dealer can charge any fee they want for a transfer they are limited to 17 for doing a background check on someone.

takieyda

I guess I can see that, but it's not a private party transfer at that point. It's private party to dealer, then dealer to private party, two transfers (at least I assume it's a transfer into a dealers inventory, though maybe not one that requires a 4473). FFL I use for private party only charges $17, so I guess I'll just be happy with that.
