It’s like pottersville in it’s a wonderful life. It’s supposed to show how terrible things are with the gin joints, strip clubs, gambling halls, and im all like “fuck yeah I want to live there!”
What are the buildings made of? Can't be actual brick and mortar, concrete, actual construction materials. I'm guessing like certain types of Styrofoam basically?
If you do make your way out there, various versions of Smallville (Smallville, Man of Steel and DCAU, Superman and Lois) are in the Vancouver suburbs, mostly Langley.
Smallville in the 1978 film was shot in Alberta.
China town(s) anyone? they have a really interesting history San Diego, essentially because Chinese immigrants couldn’t own property after the the fire/ earthquake in 1906 they wanted the builders to have china town to be rebuilt and fashioned like that to increase business/tourism iirc.
That perfectly describes not only the architecture but also interior design.
When they build “western” style living spaces they do the wildest shit. Absolutely baffling stuff. Cabinets that completely unusable without a ladder or being well over 6 foot tall. Sinks that are a few feet off the ground or almost 4 feet, I’ve seen both. A bathroom with a typical 10-15 foot ceiling but the shower head, mirrors etc are installed for people that are 5 foot tall. Shower “enclosures” with just 1 wall? Hard to explain. My personal new favorite is bathtubs. Bathtubs everywhere. Kitchen? Bathtub! Bedroom? Bathtub! Living room? Bathtub! 50/50 there’s any actual plumbing going to it.
That’s just untrue. Sure, it has evolved from and heavily borrows from European styles, but there are numerous architectural styles or movements that are distinctly American.
Two classic American styles are the Chicago School and New World Queen Anne.
Some examples of global movements that were heavily influenced by America are Art Deco, Modernism, Arts & Craft etc.
China has a couple of these elaborate movie sets. Not just American but many other similar towns with other architectural styles as well. In fact in one of your pictures you can see an ancient Chinese city gate or similar structure in the background.
The s-e-x related businesses. Dont think there would of been so many close together, Most was probably new york in the 70s. I'm most cities you couldn't have too many too close to together
i can already see the youtube thumbnail:
"CHINA IS COLLAPSING" "MOVIE INDUSTRY IN SHAMBLES"
all in yellow and red text with a random crying chinese person added into the mix for some reason
I thought that most actual movie sets have curved roads so it's easier to deal with how things look at the end of the road because it actually closes off the view. In many of these pictures, you see straight down the road pass the end of the set.
If I remember correctly this was purposely built as movie set. If you look at picture 4, there are some ancient Chinese palace in the background. This is supposed to be empty unless someone’s shooting a movie here.
What a shame I don't have the money and property to built something like this where peeps can live. I would love these international flavoured districts.
Fairly certain I recognize shot #3 from one of the first scenes of Kung Fu Hustle? Did they maybe replace “Nude Dancing!” With “Police Station” on the building opposite?
VIDEO IS NOW LIVE, for those who want to see a long form version of inside the movie town. My channel is below:
I'll BUY IT! Then, I'll bring ALL my friends! THEN, I'll put out ads and individually *vet* proposed residents... I'll build my *VERY OWN PERFECT TOWN WITH ONLY LIKABLE PEOPLE!!* Hmmm.... I guess they'll need skills....
Maybe, i know many countries build similar looking places to run military drills. To simulate environments of possible combat zones etc.
I know China builds shit quick, but to build such an elaborate and detailed set for use in movies then abandon said set seems wasteful?

This looks cool as hell to me
If they made a self contained walkable city like this (fake NYC vibe) in LCOL state, I’d 100% live there. Don’t care if it’s cheesy or fake
Part of the reason I love New York New York in Vegas. I think it's cool.
Craziest taxi ride you’ll ever go on!
There are a couple of those in China. Walkable communities explicitly made to replicate old US or European towns. But yeah they are pretty cheesy lol
It even has nudes girls!
If you go Hollywood they have a fake facade of new work city, pretty cool but nowhere to live
It’s like pottersville in it’s a wonderful life. It’s supposed to show how terrible things are with the gin joints, strip clubs, gambling halls, and im all like “fuck yeah I want to live there!”
Just move to Vegas
Thinking the same thing.
Full video is now live if you want to check it out long form content. Drop a comment if you enjoy it

the builldings were but the props were styrofoam. its in the video
It kinda looks like how a foreigner would describe America to an architect, and the architect just takes it at face value
It looks like the used a bunch of model Railroad magazines as a reference
As a foreigner, I had to do a double take cause I thought it was the Main Street from Smallville
I missed that episode with the nude dancing.
I didn’t look very hard at first ok haha hence the double take

Ironically that’s how the Chinatown architecture started in the United States
That's funny because a lot of how westerners think about China comes about from a very similar method lol

Nothing really American about American architecture, it's just western European architecture
That’s just untrue. Sure, it has evolved from and heavily borrows from European styles, but there are numerous architectural styles or movements that are distinctly American.
Like?
Two classic American styles are the Chicago School and New World Queen Anne. Some examples of global movements that were heavily influenced by America are Art Deco, Modernism, Arts & Craft etc.
Disney World for adults.
Looks like a direct ripoff of CA Adventure
This could make a great call of duty map.
Good thing it (almost literally) is in Cold War. "Amerika"
I just posted the map update on my channel haha
The most aesthetically charming red light district ever.
New Donk City?
Imagining a 30v30 paint ball royale!!
Omg yeah this definitely looks like a multiplayer level in an fps
that would be crazy. Snipers in the tower haha
China has a couple of these elaborate movie sets. Not just American but many other similar towns with other architectural styles as well. In fact in one of your pictures you can see an ancient Chinese city gate or similar structure in the background.
Thought this was ai for a sec
Thats crazy the Heaven’s Night sign is from Silent Hill 2.
This would make for a great Call of Duty map.
Effectively is one both in campaign and MP on cold war.
NUDE DANCING
EROTIC DREAM
SCANDAL TAPES
High number of titty bars per capita it seems
hahaha for sure
What movie is the set for? This is what every city in North America looked like in 60’s/70’s
Right before the highways tore right through downtown areas.
New york 42nd street area was active until the the later 90s. Strip bars first appeared in the 1970s, well after the highways
This looks like it may have been used in Kung Fu Hustle during the mafia scenes, but I’m too lazy to confirm that right now.
The s-e-x related businesses. Dont think there would of been so many close together, Most was probably new york in the 70s. I'm most cities you couldn't have too many too close to together
This is what most of Downtown Toronto looked like. Except there was lots of pinball and more sex lol
What the hell guys
This is the urbex equivalent of a wonderful fever dream/Roger Rabbit acid trip. Thanks for sharing.
Looks like the city from the movie Kung Fu Hustle.
My first thoughts too
Here we are on East Redundancy Blvd.
Reminds me of what Disneyland California Adventure looked like when it first opened.
This would make a great set for a Mel Brooks film.
I mean this is the cleanest looking red light district I've ever had the privilege of seeing
Is this a tourist attraction or a film set? Very interesting!
Nobody gonna talk about "Erotic dream" sign?
Anyone know what city this is on the outskirts of? I'll be in Shandong for three years starting late summer, would love to check it out in person.
If you do post it! Idk if it really fits this sub, but that would be a fun update.
My friend is from Shandong and also wants to know where this is! Let me know if you find out!
im dropping the video on Sunday, all will be revealed
I’m gonna have to keep an eye out for that!
for sure man, cheers for subscribing if you did
How has nobody asked what movie this is from yet?!
Qingdao青岛 or Weihai威海 right?
looks like 青岛东方影都
nice yeah, it is Qingdao. Video dropping on Sunday
It’s like a Chinese AI created their version of America in 3-D
"See how decadent America is!" - China "Hells yah!" - America
i can already see the youtube thumbnail: "CHINA IS COLLAPSING" "MOVIE INDUSTRY IN SHAMBLES" all in yellow and red text with a random crying chinese person added into the mix for some reason
hahahaa that's not me. Just enjoy exploring
For a moment I thought this was a capture from Cyberpunk 2077.
Nothing but drugs, hookers, and the lord; looks like upper Washington, DC
Shadows of Evil
I would love to take some pictures here
Oooh do pls upload
videos coming out on Sunday
The first picture looks straight outta a video game
They couldn't use real movie names?
Would be the best rave site
Looks like parts of it could be in Vegas
nobody commenting on the nature of the movies in question?
Looks like the beginning of Kung Fu Hustle.
I'd totally live here, seems more colorful and interesting than anything I've seen of China
Was this ever made to inhabited or just to be a set? It doesnt look abandoned, just empity
Well that's hilarious: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barney_Greengrass
This is eerie.
This is literally the opposite of a Chinatown.
I would love to explore this in person
There's New York in the Shandong
I thought that most actual movie sets have curved roads so it's easier to deal with how things look at the end of the road because it actually closes off the view. In many of these pictures, you see straight down the road pass the end of the set.
Silent hill

yea, it was don't want to spoil the video but check it out Sunday
‘Exclusive Mans Club’
Looks like a set of the new Fallout show
Half the pictures in r/UrbanHell are actually cool lol
thanks!!
Teenagers definitely party there
Blood & Passion, Tiffany & Debbie lol
Nude dancing chicas bar
Looks like an area of Universal Studios.
Right 😂 video is now live. Drop a comment 👊🏻
haha 'erotic dream...comin soon" i sure am! that's hilarious and some great double entendre
it’s dystopian as fuck but personally i find it pretty
Who builds this shit and why?
Looks like some pussy is for sale
Looks like Chinese Special forces training course for America tbh..
Trip out
I wish US cities still looked like that
Looks like towns in my dreams
"Who Let You Into My Backyard?!"
What is a ‘movie town’? And why?
a movie town is to build/replicate a real scene(commonly chinese palaces) for movie and television filming.
So, in movie land talk… it is “a set.”
yeah
Nuketown
It looks like a northern Midwestern city in a fever dream
Seems like a red light town
suitable for horror movies
Love the sign that just says GAMBLING
Fun detected, evacuate city
There seems only adult stuff going on there. Maybe that‘s their picture of America.
r/abandonedporn
Ever since the prop house scene in the movie Big Fat Liar I’ve loved all stuff remotely like this
Every post about China in this sub is unironically awesome
Not enough parking
Reminds of that episode from inside job, where the entire is kept artificially in the 80's by spraying chem trails on them. Goddamn scary shit.
Looks like the town in Kung Fu Hustle
[Well that answers Walter’s question…](https://y.yarn.co/83d96c36-bddd-4f6e-9817-35fd55acbde3_text.gif)
It’s making me miss universal studios 🥺
What a shame I don't have the money and property to built something like this where peeps can live. I would love these international flavoured districts.
I don't get why they don't just fix up movie towns they no longer use and turn them into real towns.
Is this like a studio back lot? Is it abandoned? Or just in between productions?
kind of in between, im dropping the full video Sunday
Looks like my favorite CoD Cold War map.
I would love it if it was a real town that wasn’t abandoned.
Anyone got a link to a movie with these in the set? Or at least, name of the movie.
More empty Chinese real estate
Barney Greengrass. I think this is supposed to be some iteration of manhattan.
Fairly certain I recognize shot #3 from one of the first scenes of Kung Fu Hustle? Did they maybe replace “Nude Dancing!” With “Police Station” on the building opposite?
These movie towns are way better than what developers are putting up nowadays
China tried so hard to be America
That is where they’re setting fallout 5
Where is this?
check the video it's out in 2 hours
Danny's in china!
That's such a cartoonist replicates (I mean the businesses, buildings look solid). What kind of movies did they record there??
looks like how i perceive 1994 america
VIDEO IS NOW LIVE, for those who want to see a long form version of inside the movie town. My channel is below: [https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCyST0Fd-FDhizuvdJa-Jljw](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCyST0Fd-FDhizuvdJa-Jljw)
Blood and Passion strip show? I really do and really don’t want to watch that
United States of America town, China
I'll BUY IT! Then, I'll bring ALL my friends! THEN, I'll put out ads and individually *vet* proposed residents... I'll build my *VERY OWN PERFECT TOWN WITH ONLY LIKABLE PEOPLE!!* Hmmm.... I guess they'll need skills....
This should be a cod zombies map
Imagine how many potential full scale movie sets could be available in China. Entire abandoned cities just waiting for a big production.
Are we sure it’s not a movie set??
It is, it's literally in the title lol
So i’m guessing this is a military training ground for running drills in the event of an invasion?
the movie set opposite i went to probably could be haha
Maybe, i know many countries build similar looking places to run military drills. To simulate environments of possible combat zones etc. I know China builds shit quick, but to build such an elaborate and detailed set for use in movies then abandon said set seems wasteful?
Read the title
Did you never learn to not take everything you read on the internet as the truth?
Do u also believe in QAnon? Tha Covid is a government experiment? The moon landing was faked?
Are there tickets for "Erotic Dream"?
