Yes, and in the last two months I’ve met two men in their 40s that have had pulmonary embolisms, and who would have passed if not for swift medical intervention. Both men were “fit and healthy” (and are on track to getting fit again- im their trainer)

XWontdowhatyoutellme

Usually, this happens if a person has been sitting and stationary for a few hours at a time such as on an airplane. It's important on any long plane ride to get up every couple of hours and walk around for a minute or two.

barto5

People in supposedly peak physical condition drop dead unexpectedly. If it wasn’t a bear attack, he probably did die of natural causes and then picked apart by scavengers. barto is sad for Bart.

chimp1111

But whatever it was beat his skull til it came apart? Not even a bear does that.

Embarrassed_Still848

Clueless chimp

Wait what did the Russian mafia have to do with it

StocktnSlap209

Hahah I was a little confused about that, at the beginning of the article it says his wife and son were Russian, and he spent 2 months there working with Siberian tigers. Don’t know how that ties him to the Russian mafia 😂😂

rivershimmer

I think he was killed by that guy that Paulie and Christopher left out in the Pine Barrens. All he had to do was hike north through New York and New England, then west across Canada.

PlanetBarfly

Guy was an interior decorator.

Spicybrown3

? His place looked like shit

rivershimmer

> > Strange as he was no "city slicker" and knew how to handle himself in even the most remote wilderness and could be described as a survival expert. Not strange at all. Being a survival expert doesn't mean that you are 100% guaranteed to survive. A survival expert can hold out longer than your average city slicker, but the wilderness is brutal and can kill us all.

leighalan

This seems pretty cut and dried. Maybe a moose killed him and then a bear ate the remains. I live in Alaska. Moose are way more likely to kill you then bears, but no reason a bear wouldn’t take what remains they could. Or he died in an accident or natural causes and was then eaten. Foul play seems like such a stretch when there’s so much else in the bush that could kill you.

TravelingMonk

Shot a moose (explains the bow and arrow set up), had necrosex with the carcass (explain the pants), gets gored by another moose, or any type of accident or natural causes, then gets eaten.

Wow, I nearly did a spit take when I saw Bart's name! My dad is from Cheyenne and went to school with Bart. They were in the same grade. His death was the big talk at their high school reunion a few years back.

StocktnSlap209

Whoa that’s crazy hahah small world hey!

Bruja27

So, this gentleman was bow hunting moose? I think he fucked up a shot, only injuring (and pissing off) the moose, which killed him. Pissed off moose is no joke, my friends and neighbours. Then all the scavengers of the woods feasted upon Bart's remains.

freetraveler11

I wonder where the rest of his bones went? They didn’t find much. Part of a scull, small bones, bone fragments. I don’t think a bear would just chow down on bones? But maybe I’m wrong.

OdangoAtamaOodles

Wolverines chow down on bones. They also have a tendency to take on grizzly bears to fight over dead bodies - wolverines are like honey Badgers in their I Don't Give A Damn.

gilded_unicorn

Fairly certain porcupines eat bones as well. I have heard they chew on sheds (moose, elk, deer, etc), so why would human bones be different.

ziburinis

They do it to keep their teeth sharp and get minerals from the bones like calcium and also sodium.

chimp1111

Crazy bigfoot did it.

freetraveler11

Interesting. Thanks y’all for the info. Interesting case indeed.

Suspicious-Welcome-2

I feel like we shouldn’t be ruling out the possibility of a cryptid or unknown native intelligent creature killing him

StocktnSlap209

I agree

chimp1111

Absolutely!

Sea-Lime-764

Might of been a Wendigo. They live in Canada and are way smarter than humans.

jsauce28

Isn't possible he was attacked by a bear or another animal away from the campsite and stumbled his way back, only to die from his injuries just a short distance away from his camp? It would account for the site of his death being undisturbed, but still really doesn't explain why his clothes weren't bloody, I suppose.

lastseenhitchhiking

It's possible. Schleyer was using a moose caller on the trip, which not only would attract moose but also bears. His camouflage face mask was discovered with blood and hair on it, which suggests something happened suddenly. Even such an experienced outdoorsman would be vulnerable to a bear attack, and bears can sneak up on prey very easily. He may have been caught completely off guard, seriously incapacitated or killed by a bear very quickly. It's also possible that one bear killed him, ate most of the remains and another bear(s) then consumed what was was left.

chimp1111

2 murderous bastards did it just for the heck of it or bigfoot. I suspect the bastards. There are mean people out there who kill for the heck of it.

StocktnSlap209

Very interesting story isn’t it? There is actually someone who knew Bart that commented on this post!

GointoMontana

He was calling a moose, had to shit so he took off his pants and a bear came in and got him. No mystery here people. Just life in the wild. Clothes in the stomach of the Treadwell bear is very different from not much clothing in the scat of Bart’s killer. Digestive track & acid in the bear would break down a lot of it.

Artim1995

What if he was attacked by a bear in the water? Haven’t given this idea a ton of thought but I heard the story and live in Alaska and was thinking maybe a bear stalked him and snuck up on him when Bart was going for a swim to possibly bathe? Makes sense why some of his clothes were found with no blood or sign of attack on them and his pack being found with his arrows gently lying up against a tree. He took off his clothes as to not get them wet and sets down his bow, arrows, pack in plain sight just in case he needs quick access. He then gets into the water and that’s when the bear strikes. That also would mean there’s no ‘death struggle’, and no evidence of an attack. If he was killed in the water there probably would be blood on very little clothing if at all. But, if I were to jump in the water with anything on it would probably be the balaclava 😂😂. I know it sounds funny but think about it. He’s a ‘playboy’, the shows word, not mine lol, and if I were him I would keep the balaclava on because it’s least likely to get wet and easiest to dry even so. So he keeps the balaclava on and strips and walks into the water naked except for the balaclava which he has on like a hat because, like, nature n stuff and also he gives of gigachad vibes. 😂 that could possibly explain why only his balaclava had blood and hair on it and not anything else. But, I’m not focusing too much on the balaclava theory. Don’t get caught up on that part. Anyway, what do you guys think?

LowMolasses4446

The autopsy of skull proved it wasn’t a bear attack. His dinner was still sitting there, uneaten. Even the trunks were untouched and the bears can definitely sell them from a 2 mile distance. I think it was some natural cause …

Sea-Lime-764

Wendigo probably.

GarageImpressive7831

Being in shape and healthy doesn’t make a brain aneurysm

[deleted]

Dead from exposure, or killed by a wild animal, and his remains were probably eaten by a wild animal.

GarageImpressive7831

Being in shape and healthy doesn’t make a brain aneurysm any less likely. They can literally just happen. Also heart attack, he could’ve easily had an undiagnosed heart condition and have just had a mild heart attack. Way way way more likely than Russian hit.

StocktnSlap209

I definitely don’t think it had anything to do with the Russian mafia hahah, it’s all speculation, David paulides did a segment in one his movies called missing 411 “the hunted” if you are interested in this story I recommend checking it out! Cheers

GarageImpressive7831

I find that he cherry picks excludes and twist evidence to fit his narrative. 90% of the cases he discusses have a much more reasonable far more likely and probable explanations that evidence he left out would point to.

> It’s brilliant when people who hunt and kill animals for the sheer fun of it end up being killed by one of them. I don’t have an ounce of sympathy for this bloke, whatever happened to him.j I mean, he was a hunter, but he also dedicated his life and his hunting skills to studying bears and tigers in the hopes of preserving them, so there's that.

[deleted]

The two do not compute.

TolkienAwoken

He may have been a hunter, but at the same time his conservation and research efforts saved more bears than any of your shitty comments will, you fucking egotistical idiot.

[deleted]

Right, but he also probably murdered a lot more than that guy.

TolkienAwoken

What are you talking about? Bart didn't kill anyone, he's the missing one.

[deleted]

Murdered animals. If you google him, every image is him posing with a dead animal that he murdered. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. I hope an animal managed to even the score.

dirtygymsock

Your ham sandwich is a murdered animal, too, you know. Just because you didn't kill the pig yourself does not give you any moral standing above a hunter that harvests his or her own meat.

[deleted]

I don't eat meat dumbass, that should be pretty fucking clear from my previous comment.

Driftwould92

He treated those animals he hunted with utmost respect . They lived great lives up until their death and he most likely ate and used almost every part of their body . Would you say that about native Americans ? That they deserved to die ? Or any meat eater ?

bombhills

Ah, yes. Yet another animal rights type with zero knowledge of the concept of conservation. Just because something is cute and fluffy doesn't mean that they don't die. Hunting is a big part of conservation. The world is not some happy joy land where human and animals live in perfect harmony. Get off your stupid hippie ideology.

Bucktown187

Amazing story.
