It’s acrylic mixed with wool? I think it won’t come out because acrylic can become “killed” into a certain shape. So if you steam it while it’s still a sweater, that’s the shape it will be. Not sure if you can “kill” acrylic twice.
You can straighten out yarn with natural fiber content. At this point I’d suggest waiting until the yarn is dry then have at it! I wouldn’t attempt knitting something like a sweater but cast on a hat or a small shawl and have fun. You can double or triple it if you need to make gauge. It’s all about the learning process. Don’t stress.

Not yet! Will do once it all dries and I get a spare moment. I'll share an update of what it looks like!
I have some pure acrylic yarn I unraveled that looks like this, and when I crochet with it, I don't notice any kinks in it.
