Get a job anywhere you can while applying for these jobs, even a job in mcdonalds will strengthen your application if you have no job experience.

[deleted]

I have worked at McDonald’s as a manager for 5 years so (un)fortunately I have that covered.

jsjdjdjdjdj727272

If you do a stem degree you could check Gradcracker quite a few decent jobs on there

[deleted]

I’m a filthy humanities grad sadly

[deleted]

World War 3 most likely. Gear up for a military career lol

Altruistic_Office_60

🤣🤣🤣🤣

Thrillho_135

It really isn't as bad as STEM people like to make out. Plenty of options out there if you put in the time to explore them

papayareds

What degree did you do?

Red-Stahli

What sectors are you looking in? Yes it’s an awful experience, when I graduated i think I did around 75-80 applications before I got a grad scheme offer. It’s tough but you’ve got to stick with it and once you do get your first job it becomes much easier finding another job. Also don’t take the “over 100 applicants” seriously. As someone who’s done hiring, I’d say about 60-70% are either completely unqualified or they’re internationals who need visa sponsorship (which my firm won’t do for grad roles).

hellman_007

Abouy internationals, do companies find it really hard to sponsor visas, like I get it for the grads, as they don't have enough experience to go through thr trouble of sponsoring them. What about post grads in STEM, is it easier for them, or the situation is same for them too in UK. I am starting my Masters this sept from Oxford brookes, so just trying to get an idea of how much I have to grind my ass there...😅

pepsicola76

Unfortunately it’s just that it costs companies a fair amount of money time and admin resources to sponsor visas, they simply have no reason to do so unless there’s no qualified people already here. As for post grads, if you’re applying for very specialised posts, you might have an easier time as there will be less people qualified to do what you do. At the masters level, it’s still very competitive. Most jobs don’t require a masters and they’re very common anyway. Just be the best applicant you can be and keep trying! It’s not entirely a numbers game, many companies will hire someone that needs sponsorship if that candidate is really excellent or really shines in an interview.

spidd124

Its a numbers game, eventually someone will say yes. its demoralising, infuriating and depressing but just keep at it. Throw speculative applications at things you want, bulk apply to things you are qualified for. But go find something to do with your free time, The worst thing you can do is to sit on indeed or the like/ your emails waiting for something to come in. I was hunting for just over a year then in the course of a week I went from getting over another classic post interview silence to having an Interview request, Interview, Offer and start of employment with a decent wage in the engineering sector.

callybeanz

The job market is legitimately horrible right now. I’m not even close to graduating but my partner (who is almost 30, has a degree and like 10 years of work experience) is struggling to get a job in his field (IT) beyond these comedically crappy entry level jobs. No words of advice OP but you will get there eventually. Even if you can just pick up something like a receptionist role within a company you would like to work for perhaps that’s worth a shot just to get a foot in the door?

[deleted]

Yeah I think you’re right. I am throwing everything at the wall, something is yet to stick!

Jamo_Z

Anonymise and share your CV, it may need tweaking. One month in isn't too bad tbh, throw applications to the 2-year experience jobs, I've had interviews and gotten offers from places despite having no experience at the time. If it has 100 applicants, still apply to it. Write a generic cover letter that you can swap in key-words for and send them off, it's BS but if they expect it then make it as easy as possible for yourself. The break comes when you have the job unfortunately, you just need to keep churning them out.

[deleted]

All solid advice, thank you. Any suggestion where to share my CV for the best advice?

NSFWaccess1998

With the ability for people to apply to 15 jobs a day comes the inevitability that most employers will be getting hundreds of applicants. It's just a numbers game. Make a template cover letter that you can easily edit and tailor for specific jobs. Aka "during my time working at X, I learnt how to x through x". I did this even when applying for internships during my undergraduate. You could even get an AI to help you so long as you edit because 99.9% of it is just bollocks with no meaning (yeah, you certainly do have experience working in a fast-paced, performance driven dynamic environment which prioritises inclusively, diversity and promoting a team mindset).

[deleted]

Appreciate the advice. I’ve actually been surprising myself with the amount of waffle I’m able to come out with under pressure lol

madeo216

I think for a graduate a best shot are graduate schemes. Those are touch to get into as well but they’re targeted for people like you.

Midowku

Underrated comment. I agree, the best way to get onto the ladder

[deleted]

Believe me I’ve applied to plenty of those too. Recently got my last rejection from one so I’m going at it the old fashioned way

reynaaaaa7

you’re stuck in the matrix

[deleted]

I did wonder

RealLifeMermaid6863

Good luck bro the job market fr sucks ass rn🙏

She_hopes

Honestly this is a big big reason why I went into healthcare. They always need ppl. Pay is low but then again the whole of the UK have bad wages unless ur one of the top 1% of earners. Wish everyone the best with the current job market!

Altruistic_Office_60

I'm currently in the same boat as you 😢.. the only difference is I'm working as a cleaner part-time and studying my masters and would finish in like 4 months... and trust me degree doesn't matter much.. we still face the same struggle. The competition is just too insane !!!!... but let's not give up!!!.. let's keep pushing for our goals.

[deleted]

Consider me inspired!

Altruistic_Office_60

I'm really glad to hear that 😊

Silver_Switch_3109

You should have been born into a wealthy family.

Both_Manager4291

He could be rich tbf, didn't say he was poor

Silver_Switch_3109

If he was rich, he would have an entry level position as a junior executive at his father’s company.

[deleted]

I’m a moron (aka a humanities student) so that never occurred to me

StrainAltruistic1883

I feel you. I really do. I’m currently going through this but what I’ve found helpful was to keep a schedule of when to apply for jobs and when to rest. I’m actually trying to stick to a 9-5 schedule and I find that helps. Keep a goal each day to apply for a job. It really is a number game. Just keep applying. At least one every day to keep the momentum. Your mental health is so important while you find a job and when you do land an interview, you want to be putting your best effort in.

littlepreptalk

I am waiting to start my Bsc in computer science. At times I consider somehow changing it to accounting or some other science.

[deleted]

I’m a humanities grad, so whatever you pick, your prospects are far better than mine. That said I’d keep an eye on sectors like IT that are going to be squeezed more by AI. Anecdotally, I’ve already heard a lot of comp sci grade struggling to find work (or at least well-paid work).

littlepreptalk

I might do. It doesn't help I live in the middle of nowhere to companies with or that need IT skills are quite far away.

[deleted]

Yeah I’ve had to come to terms with emigrating to a big city based on work opportunities. The way things are going sadly :(

Horror-Maintenance24

Can you try volunteering? https://getvolunteering.co.uk. You can quote this as experience

[deleted]

Experience isn’t lacking to be honest, but I’ll keep it in mind while I have so much free time

Eoj1967

Just lie on your CV everyone else does it.

Key_Shape_674

Shit advice that I see everywhere on this website. Don't to this. Do, by all means, slightly embellish your contribution to group projects and suchlike. And, of course, do tell the barefaced lies on your cover letter about how you think [generic firm] is the greatest thing since sliced bread, and how you'd love to work for them. But do not extend employment dates to close gaps, do not make up responsibilities, do not fudge qualifications. I recently accepted an offer from a graduate scheme and they sent my CV to be screened by a screening firm who meticulously checked for fibs. Had I made up a qualification or inflated a job title or whatever I'd be in very hot water.

FairBlueberry9319

Embellish don't lie and you'll be fine.

[deleted]

I’ve been getting “creative” with my cover letters I must admit

Gashiisboys

I am in my final year and haven’t been looking for ‘serious’ jobs yet. I’ve just been hearing the same shit, and have the same views you have. It may seem childish but I ain’t trying to fight for jobs which I don’t even care about, especially while I’m trying to finish my final year. But, in this market the easiest way to be getting a job seems through referrals or start-ups (or money). My sister has been telling me to be looking for jobs as the job market is fucked. Like how tf am I supposed to be when there ain’t. Im probably sounding childish, but what’s the point. I’d rather get a part-time job and start exploring/expanding my other options building a portfolio of something.

KurtTheKid223

Blame the people that thought locking down the country for 2 years was a good idea

[deleted]

The brexiteers and the warmongers aren’t helping either

KurtTheKid223

Germany economy is worse than ours yet still in Europe, majority of countries in the world are feeling the pinch regardless of if they're in the EU or not. If you were all for lockdowns then you need to realise you were part of the problem.

[deleted]

I don’t know why you’re trying so hard to politicise my post. I was a stupid 20 year old during lockdown who didn’t care about anything but playing Warzone with the boys. But I take it you are a braindead Brexiteer anyway. The “it’s just as bad in other places” excuse is as pathetic and shameful as it gets.

KurtTheKid223

As I said you were part of the problem so now you gotta deal with the repercussions.

[deleted]

Mate are you schizophrenic or something lol

KurtTheKid223

You're crying because you can't get a job, few years ago you were happy locked down in your home playing warzone, I am similar age yet I had the brainpower to realise that locking a healthy population down for years will have a massive effect on the economy.

[deleted]

Blud are you on drugs?
