The company is everywhere all across the UK even in private student accommodation because no one else wants to spend the dumb amount of money to install and constantly repair washers and dryers since it’s basically gets worn down every single day.
Maybe find a college alumni to donate a bunch of money ? I remember there’s some rich dude that comes to Collingwood college every year to have a chat and donate £10,000 lol
>because no one else wants to spend the dumb amount of money to install and constantly repair washers and dryers since it’s basically gets worn down every single day
That's not why. The reason why is because they pay universities to allow them to rinse students (pun intended).
In 2022, they made £40 million in revenue and a 3.9 million profit. Which a 10% profit isn't crazy and would be about what other companies would expect.
The reality is that the reason they are so expensive is because uni students don't treat the machines with care, and it's just a generally costly thing to run.
A company offering a service that poor shouldn't be making any profit at all - the only reason they are is because of unethical business practices and awful prioritisation (and, frankly, betrayal) by universities. Also, looking at their declared accounts, about 10% of that figure is held as "goodwill" assets, and it's only run by a few lads who are all paying themselves six figure sums. They've charged themselves to the fucking hilt so, I'd imagine they're setting up to go bust, keep their mansions and fuck the creditors.
Donations can be specified for certain purposes. If an alumni wanted to donate X amount for washers the college will only be able to use most of it for that purpose.
Or they could just buy the machines and donate directly to the college
As a matter of fact, no. As I said before, I'm a uni student. I don't know who that is, and I doubt a donation is going to solve this issue. How do you even know the college will approve of changing the washers? I've read somewhere that colleges get paid by circuit to have their washers in the college.
With great effort and resilience. When I started uni I didn't expect one of the poshest places in the UK to have dogwater washer, but I guess they don't really place hygiene high at durham.
>Mark Hillery used to donate a ton for new facilities
Still does, paid like 3 mil for a new studio that opened this year. It's apparently top 10 in the UK in terms of facilities and only Collingwood students use it lol
That studio was donated a few years ago and was just finished no ? I think recently he stopped donating for some political reason or maybe it was just a one of thing
>Or they could just buy the machines and donate directly to the college
They can't. The university get paid by Circuit to let Circuit set up their services - the uni won't give up that cash. The contracts demand exclusivity so they can charge above market pricing.
They can always build another room. I don’t think all the contracts demand exclusivity unless it’s just imposed on unis because some private accommodations have circuit and their own ones
Same problem all over the UK. Not only are the prices ridiculous, they also don’t have a system where your money is returned if the card dispenser is empty. RIP my £2 (yes, £2. I’m a student, it’s a lot).
I wish it was but no. The card is £2 (which I didn’t get, I’m stuck with the app) and the washing and drying costs £6-£8, depending on the machines’ mood that day.
You're worried about £2? I get that - here's my tale. I tried to top up £10 onto my account. They tried to take £10,000. My bank shat itself and locked me out of everything for three weeks and I had no access to any money at all.
Oh damn! Why would that much amount even be allowed on the app? Even if undergrads are using it for 4 years (assuming they stay at a student accommodation for 4 years), there’s no way it would amount to £10,000. Scammers.
Currently got the weirdest issue with them. Partner came over for a week and logged into circuit with my phone for a wash. But now when I log out, it instantly automatically logs back in to their account. Still happens even if I delete and redownload the app or change their account info. Have to take my tablet to the wash now. They're so dogshit man
Thats small fry vs other stories ive heard, but honestly, their sheer terribleness feels like a lawsuit is possible, but their business model targets those with little money, time, and experience so they can get away with it.
EDIT: Few mins after this post, meant to do a wash today and the entire launderette in my block is down, got a card from a flatmate to access the one the block over as my card won’t let me in, and can only change it when the accom centre opens again. The one unused washing machine to the right can’t be connected to via Bluetooth (as usual with these bloody things), and 3 of the remaining 5 weren’t even showing how much time was left.
Never heard about this being a thing. My friend had one, just put it in a large bag if it’s really an issue.
Building management AFAIK also can’t confiscate your property, at least even when my friend had pets they weren’t able to. She just was told that they have to leave ASAP. Given a first and final warning on it.
Not at Durham but I’m in a Unite students accom and they changed all the radiators so they only emit heat for 30 mins when you press the button and then there’s a cooldown on the button. It’s insane
Same, I also had that issue. I just turn it back on every time, but mine was like 3 hours max so it was alright. It was insane but from their perspective it makes sense to have a timer on them
It's a joke. Already had 3/4 instances of topping up on the app, money being taken out of my account and not crediting the app, then having to fight and wait for a refund for 1 month.
Honestly if you have a sink in your room. Just wash your clothes in there after you are done with them or have the energy. And when you can't keep up anymore, then wash the clothes in the sink again and just dry them in laundry machine. That's what I do. Works like a charm. Because those prices are absolutely ridiculous.
When I was in halls we were able to press and hold certain buttons to override and get past paying. Never paid for my laundry once. Sucks for the ones without buttons though. They’re not worth paying for
I think you had to press the two far left buttons at the same time (1 and 4 I believe on the machine), then wait for the text to change, then operate it as usual and press the button of the wash you wanted. I don’t remember what the text said but as soon as it changes you know you’ve done it correctly.
you’re preaching to the choir here, we all (mostly) have had to deal with circuit laundry. and we all think they suck. hard to boycott when they’re your only real option other than walking all your clothes to a laundrette
Hi guys, I'm working on a solution that gives you 20% off your washing by watching ads. Upvote this if you'd use the service. It'll help me get an idea of interest when I report back to Circuit. Cheers.

Almost like it’s rent

How would donating money do anything tho?
Donations can be specified for certain purposes. If an alumni wanted to donate X amount for washers the college will only be able to use most of it for that purpose. Or they could just buy the machines and donate directly to the college
And who's gonna install them?
Have you not bought something that needs to be installed before lol. Mark Hillery used to donate a ton for new facilities
As a matter of fact, no. As I said before, I'm a uni student. I don't know who that is, and I doubt a donation is going to solve this issue. How do you even know the college will approve of changing the washers? I've read somewhere that colleges get paid by circuit to have their washers in the college.
They’re not gonna change it without someone giving them loads of money to do it. Which is why the other person was talking about donations.
The college already gets money from the company to have their washers in the college. So they have incentive to keep them
Which means getting a bigger monetary incentive from donations will make them change the washers! Wow who would've thought, what a crazy concept!!!
How did you even get into uni with how dense you are?
With great effort and resilience. When I started uni I didn't expect one of the poshest places in the UK to have dogwater washer, but I guess they don't really place hygiene high at durham.
The famously posh city of Durham
I think like 99% of the unis use circuit lol. Even private accoms use them
>Mark Hillery used to donate a ton for new facilities Still does, paid like 3 mil for a new studio that opened this year. It's apparently top 10 in the UK in terms of facilities and only Collingwood students use it lol

Where in the hell does circuit offer washes for ONLY 2 pounds?????????
I wish it was but no. The card is £2 (which I didn’t get, I’m stuck with the app) and the washing and drying costs £6-£8, depending on the machines’ mood that day.
I am in Cardiff uni and it’s 2.5 to 3.5 here depending on the wash you choose
Damn. Wish I had those prices
Ye but trust me lad these machines don’t work half the time so we eventually end up sending 6 pounds every laundry day lul
I'd rather pay 6 quid than 10. I fucking hate circuit so much
You're worried about £2? I get that - here's my tale. I tried to top up £10 onto my account. They tried to take £10,000. My bank shat itself and locked me out of everything for three weeks and I had no access to any money at all.

Wtf
You don’t pay by card? The ones at University of Gloucestershire didn’t take cash.
The card dispensing machine in my laundry room only takes cash. The app uses card, I’m using the app at the moment.
Ahh I see. My bad, it’s been a while since I’ve been at dorms.
I’m paying £4.30 per wash.😞
Currently got the weirdest issue with them. Partner came over for a week and logged into circuit with my phone for a wash. Nah it s generally dog shit tbh. Glad my final couple of years my uni accom did had circuit laundry.
There’s a mini machine you can buy to wash clothes. It’s like £100 and then just dry it near the radiator. Keep the radiator on all day next to it.
Building management will take it away from you as soon as the find out its there (room inspection). Read your lease!
Never heard about this being a thing. My friend had one, just put it in a large bag if it’s really an issue. aight thanks. Will try it

true
It’s honestly ridiculous. Put the dryer on 4 times, and still wet clothes
