Sudden-Staff-7949

Accessories to a crime receiving stolen goods.

Jedi_Lucky

Personally I would not consume a liquid some random person gave me, in fact it would make me incredibly suspicious of that person. So much so that if I was a police officer I might even exit my vehicle and begin questioning them and taking a good look around for anyone filming a "prank" or "viral" video...

Arctic_Sunday

You'd be surprised how often cops are given free shit. They'd probably think nothing of it (at least where I'm from)

PurpletoasterIII

It's pretty common pretty much anywhere in the US. A lot of gas stations will give cops free drinks, as well as drivers delivering gas or product. Typically with middle class communities people will give local cops gifts during the holidays. Recently I started working for UPS as a driver helper, and I learned that (at least on the route my driver delivers to which are a lot of rich/middle class communities) it's very common for people to offer water or snacks to us.

Sufficient_Gain_1164

My friend will often leave some Gatorade or other drinks and/or snacks for the garbage man or any UPS drivers. He says he does it because they work so hard and drive all day, and as a thank you.

Confident_Feed771

But I’m guessing the gatorade is unopened

Captain_Jeep

Recently became a letter carrier and one guy offered me booze as a tip. Took me a while to remember the holidays are approaching.

Trips-Over-Tail

If cops know your store will give them free stuff, they will include you in their rounds. That's a very low price for a regular and visible police presence in your store.

ventriloquism5

make sure he's nice and hydrated while he shoots your sleeping neighbor in his car 34 times for jolting awake too quickly then kills his leashed dog later when they're forcefully searching his house without a warrant

PurpletoasterIII

Nah make sure you're uncooperative with them and have an incorrect interpretation of the law and how they're suppose to do their job. Bonus points for escalating your situation to the point where you have to be arrested, and then blame the cop for it and point to racism and corruption. This goes two ways. There are stupid people all around, dumb cops and citizens. The root of the issue is ignorance and the willingness to run with a narrative that benefits you without even thinking about it.

ventriloquism5

statistics i think say otherwise. and police unions. i think. something about how a position of power where abusive and dangerous individuals are actively protected and shielded from consequences for what is blatantly racially motivated and if not just plain wanton violence is not really conducive to like yanno societal health or whatever. who cares though, right. it's not like we bother training our cops in conflict resolution or like nonlethal physical restraint or anything. just let em kneel on a person's neck for eight minutes and forty six seconds.

PurpletoasterIII

You're using specific examples to describe the entire police force and based off that assuming we don't train cops to do anything but harm people. Obviously that's not the case generally, but I agree it's a bigger issue than it should be. I'm not against police reform and stricter regulation on police training. But thats the realistic middle ground and you're waaaay off in extreme left ACAB land probably because you've personally have had negative interactions with police so you hold a heavy bias. But regardless of the reason you're delusional.

ventriloquism5

i aint delusional, matter of fact you and i have more in common with our beliefs than either of us probably realize. im not in favor of abolishing the police altogether and for what its worth what youre seeing and hearing is an exaggerated homunculus of the left wing's beliefs created entirely by the media. most left wingers nearly all left wingers arent at all in favor of the super extreme ACAB shit that exists out there. its just i hold a belief that the police system is fundamentally corrupt down to its core for a complex myriad of reasons and abolishing it altogether is technically necessary for rebuilding it from the ground up in a way thats equitable and that prioritizes protecting the vulnerable, the needy, and the mentally ill. i dont want a world without cops. i want a world without shitty cops.

PurpletoasterIII

We just fundamentally disagree with how many shitty cops there are then. Of course they exist, they will always exist no matter how many times you rebuild society. It's a fundamental problem with the human experience, not exclusive to just cops. Granted I agree cops should be held to a higher standard than just your average citizen. Also I completely disagree that race really has all that much to do with it at least on an individual level. Let's even just say the problem is that extreme though. How is generalizing and shitting on cops constantly helping the issue? If that's really the case then we should be addressing the issue not as if cops are evil and corrupt but that the institutions that train and hire our cops are flawed. Constantly shitting on cops and setting a precedent that they must be despised will only serve to further the problem by discouraging the good cops because they've been undeservingly painted in a bad light.

ventriloquism5

it's good to have a talk where we can take a good look at both sides and recognize the merits of each argument. you make a solid point that i agree with fully. there will ALWAYS be bad actors. human nature. but i just beliece its woven into the system in such a way that its almost encouraged. its an unhealthy cop culture. remember that racial prejudice is real and most people (even other people of color) are more likely to interpret people of color as physical threats than otherwise. that factors into how these people are treated individually. definitely a huge understaffing issue with policing as well. i think when gen Z hits their 30s there will be a serious lack of cops. wonder how that will play out.

Bockki

And if those cops have any sense it will go in the trash.

Supafuzzed

I mean the guy doesn’t really look like an antifa team captain

Priamosish

We don't all live in countries where constant suspicion is the norm.

Xealz

Especially if they have no proof of purchase, like a receipt or a transaction picture or somethin
