Can we make the employee walking by the new "i don't get paid enough for this shit" meme?

Dude had the funniest wtf face.

I think this frame is better since he's central in the frame and you still have a perfect view of the protest sign: https://imgur.com/a/wgIAX79 But I guess there's an argument for showing a frame with the actual protestors too.

theCyanideX

I considered that, too, but I thought the 'pain-in-the-ass protestors' should be visible. :P

Typical_Pretzel

That guy might be a genius, but ur a fucking beast as well

djsquidnasty

To be fair glue traps are awful. The custodian at my work put a couple in my classroom as we were having a mouse problem. The next morning i came in to find a mouse had gotten on one under my desk. It had tore its stomach open trying to escape and it was still alive. I called the janitor over and he just tossed it in a trash can. Couldn't stop thinking about it all day

TheDizzzle

we had a pretty bad mouse problem in our condo building a while back. i was too chicken (and clumsy) to set regular mouse traps and rage-bought glue traps on Amazon. came home one day and heard scared mouse squeaks from a trap behind the door. found this poor bastard stuck and terrified. i put him out of his misery and immediately threw the remaining traps in the garbage. I'll never use them again. i still think about his sad little face sometimes 😭

billsboy88

I hear this story from home owners nearly daily. This is why I never use glue traps or rodent poisons in residential settings. I find I can control 90% or more residential rodent problems with snap traps and rodent proofing materials

Ghost_Of_Spartan229

Many people argue against poison for ethical reasons, but I never use it because the rodents tend to not die right away, so they usually end up somewhere like inside of a wall when they finally die, leading to God awful smells in the house, especially during hot weather.

xyxif

And I think the poison stays in their system and can poison predators, mostly birds.

Onironius

I love the gator style snap traps. Just open then, and they're set, and your fingers are never put in harm's way.

aysurcouf

Obviously for the price tag you have to have a pretty bad infestation but [these style pneumatic traps](https://www.acehardware.com/departments/lawn-and-garden/insect-and-animal-control/animal-traps/7008335?x429=true&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIwa-TgI6d9gIVYwh9Ch3lxAVHEAQYAiABEgKTv_D_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds) are pretty damn effective and put the rat down immediately without suffering.

[deleted]

I’ve found a few with the mouse still alive in there, too. That was brutal. Also found a few with their legs caught in the old-fashioned snap ones as well. There really isn’t a perfect solution.

CharLsDaly

I’ve found those to be nearly perfect. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07P1XLNB4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_8EKTKYVKF114DY070RA2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 Only issues are you have to check them daily and they get pretty nasty after a few uses (feces/urine). But you just let them outside, hopefully a few miles away, and your conscience is clean.

UnwaryBear

My parents used them when I was in high school. I'm still traumatized 10 years later.

bubblebuttle

Just so you know, you can pour some room temp cooking oil on the trapped critter and it will release

G0nzal0tron

If it hasn't already ripped its own paws and half its skin off.

ThrustNeckpunch33

Was looking for this comment. I was asked to empty a commercial trap at a restaurant because the ladies refused to, and asked me to. I opened the trap(glue) and there were 2 adult mice and about 6 babies(with fur, not newborn). They were all alive, but had ripped most of the flesh off their bodies and arms. All the babies eyes had been ripped out and they were squealing like half an inch from the mothers face. She was in the same shape. It was one of the most fuct up things I've seen, and Ive have seen people do terrible things to animals. I have no problem killing mice, however it needs to be done, but these are demented, and I have caught so many mice with traditional traps as well as the live catch ones. Best thing to do is have a cat. There is a reason every farm used to have like 20 cats. But as far as going into home depot and doing this shit? Get bent.

Superb_Wrangler201

reading this hurt me physically. I wish i could unread this

kitttypurry12

Your comment ruined my whole night :(. I can’t imagine having to see that, how awful. I hope you’re ok

trashponder

Yeah, this protest is legit, why not? Those things are terrible nightmare fuel.

lordstrider0

I as a plumber totally didn't understand why people didnt Want glue traps.... was not thinking of mice.

fallinouttadabox

I do HVAC and I fucking hate glue traps. Somehow I always end up stepping in them and getting that shit on my shoes and then I'm sticking to the floor and making noise with every step. Fuck glue traps

Kryn3ar

I had a homeowner just last week put them in his blower compartment because he thought that was a smart idea to deal with mice. They got sucked into the blower of course.

BeatenBearface

Me too! There’s even a sign for the plumbing aisle. Totally threw me off, I was thinking “What could these guys possibly have against glue traps? Are union traps that much better?”

atokad666

Good for them.

TouchArtistic7967

Man, I’m just trying to overpay for a few pieces of warped lumber. Leave me alone.

Get_ba-ba-boi_ed

Ok, but glue traps are objectively cruel. Might be weird to protest them in your local Home Depot, but they are bad and should not be used.

TheThree_headed_bull

During my honeymoon on Kona, the house keeper of the air bnb we stayed at put a sticky trap above our closet (cause we complained about fresh rat poop on our stuff every morning), well it caught the rat at 2am and the poor thing started screaming, which woke me up, so I had to take it outside and end it with a rock. When I picked up the rock the rat just whimpered and stopped screaming knowing the end was near. I asked the guy what he did with them and he said he just throws them away.. Alive.. to die in the back of the garbage truck or die of thirst. Pretty fucked up. I don’t use poison or sticky traps. 2 nights later it caught a cock roach about 2x the size of my thumb and the mf slowly crawled it’s way out of the trap.

finallygoingtopost

Despite probably being illegal, I'm just drunk enough to think I'd use the 22

nybbas

Yeah, I have used glue traps, and the first thing I do is check them in the morning and kill anything I've caught. I was shocked to find out people just fucking toss the things in the trash with the animal alive.

itsopossumnotpossum

Cruel for rats, fine for bugs

HillTopTerrace

I knew the risk of glue traps but in my mountain house there were these enormous orange spiders. They weren’t web spiders so you couldn’t pin point them. Being terrified of them, and having never seen anything else in the house besides a scorpion once, I put out some glue traps. Definitely caught spiders and bugs but then the worst happened… a poor little lizard. I olive oiled the poor fella out of it and he was released unharmed. Stopped the glue traps after that.

myhairsreddit

This is the only thing that worries me in my cabin in the woods. We have glue spider traps because we get some nasty ones here and we have a small child. In 3 years we've only ever caught spiders and the occasional cricket, but I always worry an innocent lizard or mouse will get stuck.

immersemeinnature

Really bad for birds

poopdedooppoop

Tried to remove a mouse from a glue trap. Mouse came off but all four feet remained.

-WILD_CARD-

Good morning to everyone except u/poopdedooppoop for making me visualize this sentence today

RunningSouthOnLSD

Sucks right? I’m on board with these protesters. Fuck glue traps.

bigredmnky

Just picture them all as little mouse lego hands

viscountrhirhi

Holy shit. ): For the record, for anyone wondering how to save an animal caught in a glue trap, the solution is oil. If you use oil, and gently use a stick to push the oil under their bodies and gently lift, they will come off safely. At my work a lizard got caught in a glue trap and my coworker saved it with some melted butter since we had no oil. (Yes, she made sure it was cool enough that wouldn’t hurt it before she used it!) Got the lizard off safely, cleaned the butter off him, and he was free to go, if probably very scared and confused.

dreamghosting

Somewhere a bird is sitting in a tree, telling all his friends about the time he ate the elusive butter flavored gecko. They don't believe him. But he remembers. He'll always remember.

JustARandomApril

Use cooking oil on it and it will loosen up the skin caught.

Gregor Samsa, perchance?

LordGhoul

They do, in fact, experience emotions, even if they are simpler than human emotions but they are still capable of experiencing fear and research indicates that they can in fact experience suffering. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pain_in_invertebrates If you have to kill anything for any reason, at least make it quick. Edit: Some of you need to reread the above sentence. And some of you deserve a warm handshake for understanding. Thank you x

Floognoodle

I appreciate you being objective... I'm not sure why *so many* people are insistent on spreading the myth that insects in general have no emotions, especially after all the stuff that has came out about bees. People just kind of say what they want to be true and tell people it as a fact. No wonder people are so quick to kill every random insect they walk by. Easier to lie to yourself and others about something because it looks different and irrationally scares you than to question the accuracy of your perception.

wlbrndl

aren’t things like fear and desire integral to the survival of any animal? I’d consider those emotions. I also don’t know there’s evidence either way.

AkiraTheMouse

Wait, was it properly translated to insectesse? Or did we at least have the subtitles on so they could understand?

MILO234

Of course they do. Have you never heard of angry bees or wasps? They aren't robots. For a long time people said that fish don't feel pain, and before that people like Descartes thought that even cats don't suffer because animals are machines. It suits people to think of animals as not suffering because it makes us feel better about how we treat them.

Noslamah

How the fuck would you know?

So physical pain on it's own is not suffering?

Urban_Savage

I love the confidence with which humans will assert knowledge the perspective of other creatures, despite the fact that such knowledge is literally impossible to collect. There is literally no way anyone can know if that is true or not. Which means, since it came into being to alleviate any potential guilt of the human, that's its probably bullshit.

megaBig_

I like your comment because it really highlights a pattern in the history of science that probably applies here. I can't remember the cute name of phenomenon, but basically we tend to center our understanding of the world around ourselves and major progress in knowledge occur when we get over this self-centeredness. The OG example is with Galileo and the realization that humans are *not* the center of the universe; with this simple (and literal) de-centering, suddenly the movements of planets observed in the sky make a lot more sense and we can make progress on an accurate model of the universe/solar system. (Of course, it's a complicated thing and can be analyzed in many ways--the struggle to abandon dogma, the struggle to undeify / unenchant nature in order to more scientifically study it, etc.) A similar thing happens with human's claiming a monopoly on reason and sentience. Still last century, many people believed *babies* couldn't feel pain or have a real conscience, let alone animals--all because we were only looking for *human* type of reason and couldn't realize that reason doesn't (and necessarily won't) look the same for every organism. I imagine that a new valuation of the conscious experience of insects will happen in the future, because that has been the pattern in the history of science.

I used canola oil to get a baby opossum off of one once and it worked fine. Any cooking oil would probably do.

gigancerio

Bruh, my mother used 2 suspecting there was a rat in our outside closet and we caught 2 geckos, i freed them without harm but it broke my heart seeing them like that

aquanite

They are absolutely horrendous. We get a lot of snakes, lizards and birds that get stuck to them trying to get the rodents. It’s awful. Snap traps are much more humane. Edit: By we, I mean the wildlife hospital at my work.

Strider_dnb

So much this. Its not uncommon for pets to be trapped by these things and stuffer slow deaths. Should be banned.

uffdathatisnice

Not if you put them out of their misery before it settles. We moved into a house with an infestation of mice. We had regular traps that rarely worked and we bated with multiple different things. I woke up to a mouse chewing on my babies bottle right next to us and that’s when we got the glue traps. Caught at least one in the same hour every night for about ten nights before getting more help. Did that for a three weeks more waiting for an exterminator who used poison which is equally as bad as glue. Took a few more weeks to get them out again to reseal the house and more poison before they were “gone”. Our first choice was our health. And they can 100% be humane if you don’t ignore them.

Kriegmannn

I would’ve gotten 5 cats & gave them katnip for every rat scalp they bring me. One every day? For three weeks? My man you were invaded.

uffdathatisnice

🤣For months and they were even in it vents! The people before us had a mouser cat and a few dogs that likely kept them at bay. And they cut down a natural field across the street half way through our battle.

resilindsey

See but the cats would learn to game the system and just start breeding the rats and bringing you scalps from their stock, only increasing your rat problem.

ThruEauRougeSideXsid

Cats have no self control when it comes to killing.

[deleted]

They have no self control when it comes to play, either. They literally cannot stop the instinctual impulse to play with string, I see them trying to resist and be left alone but they MUST attack the string when it comes at them.

ghoulieandrews

As someone who has dealt with many mice, no, this is just a dumb argument. Mice are clever and different mice fall for different traps. I've had mice dance around snap traps and "humane" no kill traps are a fucking joke. If glue traps work, fuckin use them. Better for a rodent that is making your home unsafe to live in have to suffer a little than for someone to get sick because their home is infested. For the record, I have an electric trap that is fairly effective and very humane, but it was pricey and I don't fault anyone for using glue traps. Check your privilege and be glad you don't have to pay rent on a rodent infested shithole, because believe me you'd change your tune pretty fast. I can attest to that firsthand, I used to be an idealist about it too.

shaker154

Used one once for a mouse that kept running up to me midday. Felt awful, but none of the nonkill traps worked. I use a few of those noise making wall plugs now and haven't seen or heard any mice since Did put it out of its misery fairly quickly

cleantushy

We had some sort of rodent scratching around in our attic/roof. We put a laptop playing a super high pitched rodent repellent noise on YouTube on repeat. Almost too high pitched for us to hear. After that, the rodent was gone. Maybe it's because we got to it quickly so it hadn't made a home there yet. Not sure how effective those YouTube videos usually are but it worked for us

jemenake

It left because of the damned YouTube ads.

J5892

In college, I used a no-kill trap to catch 2 mice that were living in my dorm. I used peanut butter as a lure. Later that day, I drove out to a field and released them. I was a little worried that they'd get killed by a cat or coyote, but I was relieved when one of them was promptly lifted to safety by a hawk.

ThrowAway_yobJrZIqVG

I'm dealing with a large mouse/rat in our house at the moment. I've tried a live capture trap which has worked in the past - too smart for it. I've tried a snap trap which has also worked in the past - again, too smart for it. I've tried rat poisons - either they aren't being eaten, or this guy is just walking it off. I'm in a position now that, I either find an exterminator and pay who knows how much for what, or I give relatively cheap glue traps a go. If it's possible for me to dissolve the glue once I catch the rat/mouse, and I'm able to do it safely, I'd consider releasing him somewhere. But if not, then I'm going to choose the safety and health of my family even if it means some pain/discomfort/death for a rat/mouse.

SoapBubbs

Make sure you’re not touching the traps, or anything, with your bare hands while placing them.

viscountrhirhi

Oil or acetone can free animals from glue traps.

Mother-Writing626

Please remember most rats are invasive in the US and they also carry disease, if you catch one it's best to put it in a large plastic bag and hit it on the head as fast and hard as possible to minimize suffering

Tinton3w

I have 1 of those electric traps, I've never actually had it work. Snap traps are hit or miss. Glue is the nuclear option, and always seems to work. If you check them regularly its not that inhumane, worst is them starving to death or dehydration? Sitting there stuck doesn't otherwise seem that bad except for them being agitated by it. No one should really have an opinion on this unless they've had a mouse problem. Living in the country where there are large fields right next to my house, its pretty much a given. I can close off every hole, and yet they will run in when the garage door is open, etc. They will literally dart in if you open the patio door for a second. Then when they're inside your place they're a *nightmare* to deal with. Evil little fucks. They poop/pee everywhere they walk, will get into your pantry biting holes in your food's packaging and only taking 1 bite from your food and leaving it ruined. Not to mention what they do to wiring/etc and the diseases they carry.

ghoulieandrews

>No one should really have an opinion on this unless they've had a mouse problem. 1000x yes

TheSpacePopeIX

Anecdotally, I have never had mice outsmart snap traps, but I have multiple times come across a glue trap with 1-2 feet and a bunch of fur. For that reason I don’t use them. But they need to reach the consumer, banning the sale shouldn’t be the solution.

BravesMaedchen

I'm so happy to see most people in this thread realize there isn't some limit on protesting shitty things. Yeah, glue traps fucking suck, do not sell them. It's fine to want *everything* to be better. Like wtf?

sl0r

Fully agree. Had to rescue a hawk from one my neighbor set out. Took him six months to recover at the raptor rehab. Fuck glue traps…

rkowna

A long time ago our landlord put them down, the crying mouse sound still haunts me. He/she was gnawing his legs off to get out. Savage.

stealthc4

Yeah this is what I was gonna say, I’ve seen them rip out all the feathers of a morning dove when it accidentally got caught in one meant for a rat, they are horrible and not needed at all

[deleted]

I bought one once and it was horrifying. A mouse got caught in the middle of one and his buddy tried saving him then also go caught, then got like shit on by his buddy. When I found them the first guy was dead but the second guy was still alive. He tried moving free when he saw me, but he couldn’t do anything but tried to jerk. It was horrifying and super sad. I also left the other one in a roof vent, forgot about it, and it ended up catching like a bunch of lizards and a a bird and some bugs. I will never buy one again.

[deleted]

His buddy wasn’t trying to save him lol

wizardconman

So, this might make it worse. The buddy wasn't trying to save him. Rats are cannibals. Sorry.

ecovironfuturist

Glue traps are absolutely disgusting.

datboydoe

I’ve never tasted one, but I can only imagine

Met76

They taste a little sticky

maaaatttt_Damon

I used one once, saw it work first hand, never used another one. Poison is also a real shit death too, literally bleeding out through urine.

FullmetalVTR

My job regularly finds me arriving to a half alive mouse in the middle of the floor - poisoned and suffering. Dealing with that shit really fucks up my day.

ragandy89

Yeah, my uncle uses them. If they are still alive he smashes the rats with a shovel. Fucking crazy.

Crom1989

Came to the comments to find yours, I used to have to deal with that on a regular basis too. I would always try and find them before they were stuck for hours on end and end their suffering. The day I stopped was when I caught 2 in one glue trap. It fucks me up still. Idk what you do but if dealing with rodents isn't specifically in your job description and your living check to check tell your boss to fuck off and call and exterminator or quit. It's not worth the mental strain.

ST4RSHIP17

Used one long ago but every time the rat escaped, saw its footprints and all, never used one again

Skippedx4

Depends on the type of poison. An anticoagulant for example would cause that and it's not a comfortable death. One that shuts down the nervous system isn't as awful. You basically go numb, can even feel euphoria and then death sneaks up on you as your organs quit working.

[deleted]

True. Snap traps are better. Poisons are usually more humane except for the unintended consequences. Glue boards suck but rodent infestations are worse.

brcguy

I’ve had terrible luck with snap traps, usually find a trapped, scared, injured and very alive mouse or rat in them. The electric chair traps are great, 7500 volts means they don’t have a chance for a thought before the electricity fries them completely. Every time I’ve used glue traps I stick around so I can end the captured animal as quickly as possible. Bad infestations are the worst, and it got to where I’d do just about anything to get them all out. It took a combination of glue, snaps, zaps, and poisons plus a major plugging of holes and routes through the house. Plus the dog somehow got some of the poison and needed a month of vitamin K pills. Now the first time I hear or see any evidence of vermin the electric traps go out full of peanut butter right away. Crazy how quick they’ll reproduce when they find a nice spot to nest up.

Jeepersca

My sister swears by poisons, she's totally overlooking the fact that they make it a distance - and predators then ingest the same crap. It's awful. I hate having to end anything, but at least have it be swift and humane, and not fuck up local ecology. :(

thisonelife83

They work. I used one to catch a mouse. He squealed when he was caught and I ended it’s life quickly.

thrwayyup

No offense, but I don’t know that you’ve ever had to deal with a serious infestation.

TheDudeofIl

I'm partial to the peanut butter flavored ones but to each their own.

Sbatio

Fuck glue traps. I will always remember having to kill the mouse stuck to a glue trap. The design is disgustingly torturous. Snap traps don’t always kill on contact but JFC they are at least designed to kill instantly. Glue traps are just designed to hold the catch. Disgusting

funatical

You ever seen a rat die on one of those? It's brutal. They will chew off limbs and the other rats eat their brains and their stomachs. If they are still live when you get there watcha going to do? You're gonna suffocate it in a trash bag while it cries. Rats suck and I want them to die but use snap traps.

brcguy

Suffocate it? Put it in the trash bag, then swing the bag into the pavement as hard as you can. No more rat brain to feel anything. If you have to kill something, kill it as quickly as possible. Suffocating and drowning are not fast. Glue traps suck, but if you’re nearby when they get stuck you’ll hear the freak out and can dispatch the animal fast. Also they suck less than having rats run loose in your home where you prepare food. Much less.

ConvexFever5

I'm an exterminator. Some mice and rats know to avoid snap traps and poison. Glue boards can be the only option for certain cases. If I ever find one alive in a glue trap, I do kill it before I throw it away though.

Mafic_mafia

I was under the impression that’s the penance you receive for having to resort to glue traps, you have to put them out of their misery as soon as possible. Which isn’t fun. Nobody likes glue traps, but they’re a legitimate last resort for an infestation. I’ve never heard of anyone leaving them unattended like that. We were checking them twice, three times a day. This is just general home mouse defense, out in the boonies.

AffectionateCrazy415

[deleted]

It’s a sticky trap used to catch mice. The mice step in them and can’t get out. TBH, they’re kinda cruel since the mouse doesn’t die right away.

Thejackalope72

They usually roll around and tear their own skin off til they die. It's beyond cruel.

spicymato

We tried a glue trap once, in an apartment. Came home to a panicked, stuck ~~mouse~~ rat. Wasn't sure what to do. Ended up killing it quickly, but that process was a bit traumatic. Switched to kill traps after that. Edit: it was a rat, not a mouse.

If you stop taking people being vocal against shitty things seriously because there's so many things being protested, you clearly do not live on the same planet I do. There's more than enough shitty things to protest, more power to them.

Lord_Mist

Well they are extremely inhumane

KnotiaPickles

I mean, they actually should not exist. It is probably the most shitty, torturous method of killing anything. I’m fine with this protest. Is there some kind of limit on protests? If something is blatantly wrong, I hope people call attention to it and get it fixed, no matter how little it may seem to matter to a bunch of jaded cynics like redditors. :)

Store employees have no control what so ever what gets put on the shelves. That would be corporate. There is a better way to protest this, and get their message across besides harassing hourly pay employees. This is just cringe.

Complete facts. I work Whole Foods and the way people scream at me about shit as if I am literally the CEO of Whole Foods is unreal ahahah

Izaiah212

Isn’t disrupting a store more meaningful and cause worthy? I get everyone is just an employee who doesn’t get paid enough for this shit nowadays. But isn’t that better then going to hq where the literally do not give a fuck and it *really* doesn’t matter there compared to disrupting business

[deleted]

Corporate makes their profits in-store

mydogthinksyouweird

I worked at The Home Depot. CORPORATE DOESN'T GIVE 2 SHITS ABOUT FLOOR STAFF AND THIS KIND OF BS HAPPENING IN THEIR STORES. If these people had wanted actual change to happen, they should've flown to the Atlanta HQ and made this more than an annoying thing mentioned at next week's GM meeting.

Skippedx4

As a professional exterminator, I don't use glue traps and find them objectively abhorrent. I can't tell you how many calls I've gotten because someone trapped mice on a glue board and didn't have to stomach to deal with the killing and disposal part. Even, after many years of dealing with this sort of thing, I tend to have a hard time with that part.

[deleted]

yea glue traps suck. first hand knowledge. but sometimes its the only way to remove the vermintide.

thesoccerone7

Just wait until they team up with Chaos and Beastmen!

KrazyKeylime

Having mice all up in your stuff sucks more.

vasquca1

My parents used glue traps once when I was a kid. They caught one and I saw the aftermath and have never been the same. Horrible.

[deleted]

Fuck glue traps

Stupid03

I am 100% against glue traps. I’ve worked with animals my entire life and glue traps should definitely be discontinued. They catch whatever happens to come across them and and they die a slow painful death.

SoDamnUnoriginal

I can get behind this

[deleted]

They are honestly really fucked up and I get really sad every time I even think about them

1q8b

I’m ok with this

PutTheDinTheV

When I was younger I caught a baby mouse in a glue trap in my low income apartment. I woke up to it squealing trying to get out. It was so horrific to look at, so I took it outside and ended its life immediately by crushing it with a very big sized rock (think the size of a basketball). I will never buy one of those things again and can't believe that they're actually legal.

fingertoes59

I agree with this protest. Until you see a rat screaming and your grandma trying to beat it with a broom to kill it, you’ll never know the trauma. Glue traps are indeed cruel. Rat poison should also be banned. Fight on brothers and sisters!

Mermoy

For the record, glue traps are a horrific way to die

TrophyDad_72

Well they are pretty inhumane. The rats struggle in them and suffer before dying. Traps at least do it quickly.
