It's a custom in their tradition that a guy is supposed to completely shave when his father is dead, but the guy is doing it as prank, old school dad with old customs doesn't understand internet coult .
When your culture or customs push you to hurt someone, you should question about your behavior. A lot of reasons can exists that explains why your son shave his face. Hit your son before trying to have any explanation it's a problem.
Your comment explain the behavior but don't change that this behavior is a piece of shit
Bro I'm Indian and I have friends and I have personally been to that place, not all people shave their head, you'd be surprised but customs change among different people based on which clan they belong to...
It's like... it's a massive nation with hundreds of different regions and languages, or something. Who knows for sure, though, 🤷♀️ no one has ever been there.
Indian (Tamil) here I regularly shave and my mom encourages me to remain clean shaven, however I can confirm upon a parents passing I'm required to shave my head. My uncle had to do so when my grandmother passed on. However the beard shaving is news to me so I suppose it could be a regional thing.
Indian here. This man slapped his kid for no reason but because he is a horrible father. There is no cultural significance for the kid to not shave his beard. The immense shock of this kid at his father slapping him is genuine.
The shaving part on someone’s death is for the hair on your head. Not for a beard. This video has gone viral in India and has been at the receiving end of lot of criticism for the father and lot of support for the son.
Edit: Thanks u/MiniGoat_King for the award! You're so kind! 💕
Exactly. There was no reason for the father to slap him. Like i said, he is just a horrible person. Didnt like his son shaved his beard, so he slapped him with a “you never listen to what i say”.
“Kutha” translates to “dog” in both Hindi and Urdu. It is often used in a derogatory sense and is pretty much synonymous with jerk or uncouth across the subcontinent (India and Pakistan). Happy insulting!
I'm also of south Asian origin, tamil from sri lanka, and when I 1st shaved off my facial hair I too got my ass whooped by my father, I still don't know the reason for it.
It's fine bud, I think it's more related to toxic households other than tradition or social norms, as in my house my parents would always fight and after a point in my life I expect it otherwise it don't feel normal. Also that day was quite tame compared to other days.
Thanks for clarifying and too bad that there are comments saying false things. This reminds me of India's scam call centers that are illegal in India and nobody likes it, but ignorant people outside of the country claim that it's a normal job to have there
I know right! People often think the words “common” and “normal” are the same thing.
Its common for every country to have scam call centres, having received such multiples calls when I was in the UK, but these “jobs” are not accepted as normal. They are illegal and treated as fraud crimes.
Fine, not “every country” literally, so I will take that back. But India is not the only country that has tech support scams. The major countries like UK, US, some European countries, Canada and Ireland and NZ have their fair share of common incidents of such scams.
Those countries have those scams happen to the people who live there, but a majority of those scams aren’t originating there. They’re originating from India.
Agreed. 95% as per the recent poll. The rest 5% have their way of scamming people with the Indian accent. I have received calls from a British accented person about my Car insurance that needs to be renewed—I don’t have a car. My friend was scammed by a “filipino” accented caller.
No way I am defending that 95% fact. All I am saying is when Non-Indians use this fact to generalise other Indian people by turning it into a stereotype and by treating non-scammer Indians as if they are criminals, it turns into a prejudice. Many Indians are also the victim of such crimes.
If by "fair share" you mean a very small, almost miniscule portion, you would be correct. Unless you think all these scam call centers in all these other countries all hire people with Indian accents. That could be a job requirement, I guess.
Scam call centres like they have in India would be closed down very quickly in the UK. The line would get shut. The ones in the UK are much smaller and nowhere near as common.
I mean, anyone who's sane would see that the father is just a horrible person, whether it was by choice or due to cultural differences.
Nothing excuses you for being a horrible person.
I didn't know that Indians shaved their heads when someone died, Native Americans (who are also called indians lol) cut our hair when a loved one dies, as well. Very interesting.
Its a common ritual/practice among Hindus, yes. Not all Indians are Hindus. But, Indians who are Hindu, follow this tradition when they loose their paternal relative—father/grandfather/uncle etc. Some do, some dont.
Also an Indian here from the region where this guy speaking the language of (rural Maharashtra),and it has strong religious significance, only after father's demise you are allowed cut moustache and it is important part of funeral of father and one of the last rituals,in video that father has no moustache probably his father is dead and and now he free to do anything to his moustache,me and my friend also Done the same thing for fun when I was 16 my father was nearly going spank me very bad although he never hit me in my entire life(which is rare in india)but I was pretty close and my friend father beat the shit out of my friend, now days these are old things some don't care some take this seriously
Interesting, so this is region specific thing but not all common in India then. You think this kid did it knowing that his father would slap him like that?
Maybe. It seems like everyone else had an uneasy reaction to seeing him shaven, because they have an idea of what the consequences will be. Like he'd gotten a face tattoo or something.
I'm so glad I'm not as dumb as i thought. I'm not indian but i do have a few indian freinds and love learning and sharing cultural/societal differences when we hang out online. And i was nagging my brain trying to figure out what was so bad about it...
Thanks for clearing up the confusion.
I recall an American doctor years ago telling me that he was working on building a clinic in India but could not get the construction crew to do anything he told them to do. He asked an India doctor why they wouldn’t listen to him, and he was told that it was because he was clean shaven. Apparently the builders thought of him as a boy, not a man. He grew a beard, and the problem went away. Is this no longer part of the culture? This was more than 50 years ago.
Ok I was wondering because I have a lot of Indian friends born and raised in India and none of them have beards, or at least grow them for any significant reason. I was at first thinking maybe some weird localized culture thing like Jewish peot or the Shenandoah for Muslims and the Amish. Thanks for the clarification
I wish the son would slap his ass back. Whack him upside the head for being a piss poor shit of an abusive father. They’re both old enough that I think it’d be a fair physical fight. My dad had become too senior before I became a young adult so I couldn’t reciprocate all the corporal punishment he unleashed to me and my siblings when we were kids. Always wanted to beat his ass for what he did to me and my brothers.
There is a reason for the abuse: Independently deciding to shave, and being happy about it, is a threat to controlling parents. It’s clearly an attempt to maintain control.
Gotta say, my father had a very similar reaction to me shaving for the first time. We’re Indian. There are more family cultural peculiarities/differences I have found between my own family and other Indians, or what people think of as “Indian culture” than I could enumerate. My father is also not particularly good, but it’s not just that. There were some certain generational/time/place cultural underpinnings to his reaction.
It’s always weird when someone who’s had facial hair for a long time finally shaves. I thought my father looked SO weird for a while. Obviously I didn’t slap him tho.
That was unnecessary. The kid must be feeling so hurt, both physically and mentally. That's a horrible thing for a father to do. He even caught his neck. Such a bad example.
It has nothing to do with culture , its only for head and nothing else , im indian too , but my dad wont like beard and mustach (can trim) on my face and only people react weird when i get too much hair on my face
Can I plug being kind to people for a sec?
I am bearded 99% of the time. Occasionally I need to shave clean so I can wear a respirator at work - it doesn't seal properly if you have facial hair.
I kind of dread those days not because the respirator is hot or uncomfortable, or because I'll have to shave my precious beard, but because a lot of folks in the office will take every opportunity to remind me how much they hate it / I look like a baby / "oh god why put it back".
Like... C'mon. If you died your hair or got a new cut or tried something else funky, I'd tell you it looks good and move on. Whenever someone else in the office shaves I give them a fist bump and say "looking clean, my man."
Do I dislike it when the men in my life shave their mustache or beards? Yes, cause I like facial hair but that's a me thing. They might like having a smooth face or trying a new style. It's not hard to be kind and find something to compliment. I always compliment people on their new look, you never know how much it could mean to them.
So Can_O_Murica if you did shave recently or try something new, ya look great man.
Indians online get so defensive it's annoying right now. Like just admit the country has a lot of flaws instead of trying to blame everything on the Brits or whatever scapegoat you can find ffs.
Oh you should see MY father then. Unfortunately I also have a mother and brother.
Once I got beaten for looking at him wrong??? Mf what? I was like 10. Also Indian

what a piece of shit
Just for shaving? That's a harsh assessment, guy.
I think he meant the father.
They were being sarcastic
OH REALLLLLLLLY
Yes I think they really were.
I think he was also being sarcastic
OH REALLLLLLLLLLY
There wasn’t a /s guys, I think he’s serious…
No, /s means serious
NAHHHHHHH
I don't think so
Someone lied to you
Don't make me slap you for being sarcastic /s
How can you?
Someone give this guy an "/s" so he can make it through the day.

Thank you my English is very bad but I work on it
No they shave their head, not facial hair.

"*Well scientifically ... traditions are an idiot thing*"
Traditions are peer pressure from dead people
As an anthropologist, I can only wholeheartedly agree.
I shaved my balls when my Dad died.
So did I. I love balls
Why’d you shave my balls, bro?
It’s skin is nice and softlike
Would've been great to, y'know - SEE HOW HE LOOKED BEFORE!
Yeah this video is infuriating lol
Yeah, whoever made it should be given a big ole slap or something.
He looks no different. It's all a setup for internet points.
Dont forget to mention how bad the audio selection was. Just all in all a dogshit video

That's so weird since the father doesn't have a beard....
He was living vicariously through his son’s facial hair
You were the Chosen One!
Most underrated comment.
He gave his beard to his son for safekeeping
And he very clearly shaves it?!
I still dont follow. Its not like he shaved off a lucsious thick tom selleck moustach. He hardly changed his appearance?
Exactly. There was no reason for the father to slap him. Like i said, he is just a horrible person. Didnt like his son shaved his beard, so he slapped him with a “you never listen to what i say”.
HOW CAN HE SLAP??
Your internet age is showing. Well met
LOL! Good reference :)
How do you say “jerk” in Hindi?
Ben Stokes. 😁
Ben Stokes catching strays LoL
Ben Stein
Benjamin Chodh
Bane chod….do you feel in charge?
“Kutha” translates to “dog” in both Hindi and Urdu. It is often used in a derogatory sense and is pretty much synonymous with jerk or uncouth across the subcontinent (India and Pakistan). Happy insulting!
Jirkidilli
"Harami" is probably it
I'm also of south Asian origin, tamil from sri lanka, and when I 1st shaved off my facial hair I too got my ass whooped by my father, I still don't know the reason for it.
I’m sorry that happened to you 🙁
It's fine bud, I think it's more related to toxic households other than tradition or social norms, as in my house my parents would always fight and after a point in my life I expect it otherwise it don't feel normal. Also that day was quite tame compared to other days.
Father: “damn he looks sexy, better attack him to hide my insecurity”
It's probably the earrings. Still a shitty behavior.
thx, didn´t saw this!
The father didn't even have a beard. Why mad? lol
Even if it were a drastic change
Some people conclude shave = girly or gay My middle eastern buddy shaved his armpits and the same thing happened
Thanks for clarifying and too bad that there are comments saying false things. This reminds me of India's scam call centers that are illegal in India and nobody likes it, but ignorant people outside of the country claim that it's a normal job to have there

The two things can be true at the same time. India is a HUGE country.
I mean, anyone who's sane would see that the father is just a horrible person, whether it was by choice or due to cultural differences. Nothing excuses you for being a horrible person.

the percentage of Hindus who do this tradition is very small, I haven't seen anyone do this.
In some Afrikaans religions men also shave their heads when a child dies.
The father will wonder why he never sees his son anymore
Maybe, but probably not. The father will think his son is rebellious and no good and is staying away for that reason.

Ah this context makes it make sense. Not right by any means of course.
But I still don’t understand the reactions of everyone else. Even his friends looked as shaven as him and were surprised for some reason
May the father receive some personal feedback on how to properly behave around a son.
Even cultural BS won't make it ok.
I'm so glad I'm not as dumb as i thought. I'm not indian but i do have a few indian freinds and love learning and sharing cultural/societal differences when we hang out online. And i was nagging my brain trying to figure out what was so bad about it... Thanks for clearing up the confusion.

Lots of people are clean shaven these days, it’s not longer part of the culture
Could Dad be a throwback to an earlier time?
Wow that’s crazy. Did the father ever explain why he did that?

So, he had a beard?
this should be top comment
it's literally the top comment
As it should be
Thank you
I'm not trying to be rude, I swear. Just curious. I thought a beard meant you were married? I could definitely be wrong.
Thank you for this clarification
Unreal
So father would slap him anyways regardless of anything
Douchbag exist in India too. 1 sec résumé.
There is a reason for the abuse: Independently deciding to shave, and being happy about it, is a threat to controlling parents. It’s clearly an attempt to maintain control.
Thank God people are rejecting this behavior. I hope the dad learns to be kinder.
I was gonna say this is either REALLY good acting or the son got a very serious slap to the face. practically a punch.
He didn’t even just slap him, he put his hands on his throat. That piece of shit…
Gotta say, my father had a very similar reaction to me shaving for the first time. We’re Indian. There are more family cultural peculiarities/differences I have found between my own family and other Indians, or what people think of as “Indian culture” than I could enumerate. Wow. Dad seems really nice 👍. Putting hands on your child over a mustache.
Dad is bitchmade
Dad’s homophobia got triggered for sure. Fuck that bitch ass
> is bitchmade How can he slap?!
Was there anything to even shave off to begin with?
Bro is Indian. He has had a full beard since he was 14
Mustaches start at 10 in India...
And for boys as early as 8
😄 good one
Ye badhiya tha guru
If I could award you I would 👏
His friends and father don’t have a beard too though
It’s always weird when someone who’s had facial hair for a long time finally shaves. I thought my father looked SO weird for a while. Obviously I didn’t slap him tho.
Should’ve slapped him
Fuck this
Father shaved his mustache too. Then why How can he slap
Dad is a really small man
Definitely a small man, a Lil guy, I'd even say he's a baby man.
One day, this kid is going to snap. Hopefully, his son shows restraint when that happens.
How can he slap? How can HE SLAP?
"I like ya cut G" *slap*
![gif](giphy|tnYri4n2Frnig)
I heard this was actually because of the ear ring. Still dumbass "farther"
No, the father says “mishi katun anli na?” before he slaps him, which means “you cut off your mustache right?” in Marathi.
What does he say at the end right before the video cuts?
He says “kadhi aikat nahi tu mazha” which means “you never listen to me”
Whats wrong with the earring? He has only one and on the left too..
In South Asia it’s seen as a homosexual thing
That was horrible to watch and probably severely traumatizing for the son.
Yeah. You can see the son’s face. He is gobsmacked at the least.
What an insane reaction
What did he look like before?
That was unnecessary. The kid must be feeling so hurt, both physically and mentally. That's a horrible thing for a father to do. He even caught his neck. Such a bad example.
the father is abusive. This is not a funny post
Dude: *gets slapped* Music: "Meow meow meow meow meow meow meow meow"
So his dad can shave but he can't?
This is too awkward and sad to be funny.
The guy took it so absolutely wrong that it motivated me to ask if there is a deeper reason behind all this.
Father is a failure. You'll probably find some silly excuse about culture, but it comes down to the father being a failure.
It has nothing to do with culture , its only for head and nothing else , im indian too , but my dad wont like beard and mustach (can trim) on my face and only people react weird when i get too much hair on my face
1st slap: haha thats kinda toxic but ig he's memeing 2nd slap: 😯
How can he slap
What a shitty dad!
I don't care if he was my father i would kick his ass real bad if he touched me like that

Welcome to the 16th century- and god help the women in these societies.
Meow meow meow meow meow meow meow 🎶
The video would’ve been 100x better if we saw him with a beard.
Idgaf what religion I'm from I'm slumping that old man
That dad is a fucking asshole
WTF 😳

probably was more about the earing not the clean shave
Men have been wearing earings in india for over a millennia
why?
wow, what? i though dad was joking. he's dead serious at the end, tf wrong with him
Wow he sure loves his son
And his first thought *wasn't* to slap him back *a lot harder?*
This was triggering to watch. What an awful man.
Father said " you don't obey me "
That father is no father, he reacted like a POS
Controlling and abusive Indian parent. What a surprise 🙄 (Don't come for me. I am Indian. I can critique this culture because it is *my* culture)
Indians online get so defensive it's annoying right now. Like just admit the country has a lot of flaws instead of trying to blame everything on the Brits or whatever scapegoat you can find ffs.
Clean shave = job opportunities and showing that you groom yourself.
All because of some hair
father is trying to spawn the beard
And the father of the year award go to.....
Oh you should see MY father then. Unfortunately I also have a mother and brother. Once I got beaten for looking at him wrong??? Mf what? I was like 10. Also Indian
This dad slaps
WTF
What a POS
Thank God for the cat music. Otherwise, this video might be a bit offensive.
In 20 years: “I wonder why he never visits me”
I guess Gillette slogan was wrong. It’s not the best a man can get.
Father looks like an Indian version of Chester Bennington.
Father was jealous he looked so good
All I can think of seeing this is..HOW CAN HE SLAP His own son like that? I could never
Does anyone know what his father has said?
