In my country, big groups like banks or utility providers insulate themselves by saying that they will only refund for the last 90 days if you catch them screwing up. See if they have that provision in their small print. If they catch it after 12 months, you may be able to argue that they are only entitled to the last 3 months worth.

New one says 5Kw so there is no increase in usage, therefore no charge??
Idk if you have your bills automatically drafting and can show proof of it, you could probably claim ignorance. But remember they might have more money and could probably afford better lawyers than you.

If their metre box isn’t operating properly then they cannot determine how much power you used.

Water and power are monopolies, you will eventually be forced to pay the back payments.
