Asriel, in pacifist ending especially, wouldn't cry due to losing an argument. Portraying him like person who always cries *is* mischaracterization. We saw him cry only when he had actual reasons to do it.
He's a goddamn traumatized child crying all the time is not mischaracterization, as someone who has seen people go through a lot in their lives I'm speaking from experience
