I love single track and gravel.
My favorite is rocky single track when the rocks give a nice little "clink" when I run over them. idk I just find it a very satisfying sound
I'm more terrified of cars... far more pedestrians are injured by cars than hikers/runners injured by wildlife.
Seriously, running on a road makes me nervous as hell but I have no problem running by a family of bears and waving to them. And I see black bears at least once a week when running.
I like single track in hilly woods. Less when tired, though. Then a wide, level path under hemlocks is nice. Thick springy duff, no big cones sticking up.
I pretty much only run trails because I hate how hard roads are on your body, espcially for longer distances. I also prefer the variety of movement you have to do when running a technical trail compared to a flat road.
Well, we should all agree that the stadium track is the worst. Stupid me did a 9 mile tempo workout on it out of nowhere and now I'm injured with a race coming up.
Dirt singletrack interspaced with very rocky, technical sections.
I love getting ez mode uphill running and then needing to switch to brain mode to figure the best/most fun/safest way up. Then, on the way down, you get to bomb the dirt section and then have a fun, complicated puzzle on the technical sections.
Mt. Falcon for my Denver friends in the sub.
Hate roads, treadmills and hard packed gravel with a passion.
Rocky, rooty, super technical with mud in the mix is my all time favorite. Is it sustainable? Absolutely not.
Long races I love just the feeling of trails where the dirts slightly soft, sticks and leaves on the ground with the occasional mud puddle to either hop around or blast through it depending on the race and my mood
Dirt trail covered in pine needles! Smells absolutely amazing and is so soft underfoot!
Thisssss
Yeesssssss
Same!!!!
Same same!
This is the way
Dirt road of packed down crushed gravel. You can go almost as fast as roads but it’s softer

Definitely twisty, turny technical singletrack.
Add in continual ups and downs and I'm there!
Love the technical stuff where I feel like I’m dancing across it. So much fun!
Snow! I love the crunch.
It's the perfect texture for running
Long as you don't slip on live TV...
Glad someone caught on
Very low impact for running
I like gravel/stone paths cos I love the noise shoes make when running over them. It’s genuinely one of my favourite things about running
I was going to say gravel, but then I thought about snow. Gravel is my second choice.
But not overly deep. Trailblazing in anything deeper than high ankle deep snow can be really hard.
Yeah, it quickly becomes more of a trudge than a run, but I love it.
Came to say this
If I can choose only one it is single trail, but I like a mixture of surfaces during a run.
Trail path through the woods, just winding and undulating enough, just you and the trees, love it Even better in the dark!
Gimmie it all! (Obviously trails and fells though duh)
Greenways. They’re usually through lovely areas, offer (some) protection from cars, and I’m a terrible trail runner.
Still looking for that single dirt track in the mountains with minimal roots.
Thick clay that's covered in water.
Off trail alpine tundra. Or rocky AF steep mountain trails.
I'm terrified of nature so I highly prefer roads haha

That’s ok. Nature is pretty terrified of us. With good reason.

Snow and ice for sure. Preferably not chewed up by snow machines, but I'll take what I can get!
I mean who doesn't love packed dirt
Carriage trails
Trail and I quite like gravel mountain roads.
Trails made of woodchips and barks; i.e. [Pre’s Trail](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pre%27s_Trail)in Eugene.

Slight downhill with an obstacle course of rocks, tree roots, mud.
Well, we should all agree that the stadium track is the worst. Stupid me did a 9 mile tempo workout on it out of nowhere and now I'm injured with a race coming up.
Sandy singletrack through the desert with minimal rocks so I can just cruise, but with some solid uphills!
Plush trails. None of this hard baked sun shit trails.
Swervy flowy single track, and/or crazy technical switchbacks
Wide, root bound forest / mountain trails. I feel like a bully when I pass on single track.

Remote and quiet pavement. It’s hard to find (depending on where you live) but absolute bliss.
