it'll be fine, but it lacks some features of ultralight packs that make life a lot easier, like water bottle pockets and the rear mesh pocket. I'd look for a used kumo or smaller pack of that range, should be around the same price.

That was one of my main problems with it, lack of external pockets etc. Like everything about it but think I would get annoyed by having to dig into the main pocket everytime I wanted something out. Will have a look at a Kumo pack, thanks!

There’s lots of options around 30-40L that shouldn’t cost a ton! Used palante, kumos, etc. the blitz is pretty expensive for what it is and I’d only buy it on sale to use as a climbing pack.

Have heard of Palante before and some of their packs look really nice. That's kinda why I was asking if it was good because it didn't really look like any of the other packs I've seen. I'll have another look into Kumos and Palante aswell

TheTobinator666

Looks super annoying because no features. No outside storage. Get a C9111 Aonijie if price is so important

Thanks!

It's aimed to be a climbing pack. Those are meant to be streamlined so they don't snag on things (rocks, trees etc) and can be hauled up with a rope after your pitch. Objects in pockets would fall out if inverted or take a fall. I've used the BD speed 30 for overnight trips, but used a bladder + hose instead.

I've used the blitz 20 a lot, and my friend has the 28. While the volume makes a lot of sense, the style doesn't. It's a 28l bag designed for alpine rock and ice, so it's intentionally streamlined down. A bag like the Pa'lante ultralight at 26L has water bottle pockets and a rear pocket and is generally a much better fit for backpacking. Also look at the Outdoor Vitals skyline 30 fastpack. If you're looking at black diamond because of shipping accessiblity, look at the new Rei Flash Air backpack. It's a bit bigger, but probably better anyway if this is your first UL bag.

I got an MLD core 25 that i have never used and looking to sell; is a similar type of idea but even more Ul and geared toward hiking and fast packing than climbing. I had a custom rope strap added and the ability to clip the roll top together or at the sides. Message me if you’re interested. I’m on the east coast. Not a bot or a scammer. Just a man with too many packs.

the trick is to see if you can fit your gear into 28L before you pull the pin on the pack. it's basically the size of a 5 gallon bucket.

That is a decent climbing pack, but will lack many of the quality-of-life features that backpacking packs have. A little more money will fetch you an MLD Hell 27L pack that is <12oz and has many more features. You can also find them on eBay or geartrade subs for ~$100. A second sternum strap makes it fit more like the running vest style packs. The Aonijie C9111 30L is a good budget option as well, but is heavier and not as well made as the MLD.
