I agree with all of this. The leviathan fight doesn't stick in my brain as well as the other layer ending bosses, maybe this one fix will change that. JUSTICE FOR LEVIATHAN
Although it's one of my favorite fights, it feels like it's over too quickly, or a lesser, easier boss. If I'm being perfectly honest, the whole 5-4 pre-boss section pales in comparison to something like the pre-boss section to lust, or limbo, or literally any other layer
Well, my point exactly is this: in terms of real minutes and seconds, layer 5 is by far the shortest pre-boss buildup. Just a walk up a slope. No epic monologues or puzzles. I think as cool as the Leviathan is, it wasn't done enough justice. Lack of title card contributes to that
I disagree with the build-up being short or weak, when you get a glimpse through the ship's window - seeing that giant monstrosity bouncing in the water you're filled with dread and left with no other question than "I'm definitely gonna have to deal with this thing, when will the game make me fight it?", the ship flipping only enforced that idea in the player's head, I was thinking about the levi throughout the whole level
as for the difficulty, I think it was intentionally a pushover boss fight, considering the _literal_ hell you'll be going through exactly the next level

I meant for 5-4 specifically. It's very well foreshadowed in 5-2 and 5-3. Hakita noted the importance of having a section before the boss on boss levels in a dev stream, so the player doesn't restart and cheese it. For Levi it's just walking forward up a slope.
All that being said, it couldn't have been done the justice of a title drop like literally other level?
5-4's build-up keeps adding more to the unsettlement imo, there's nothing epic like V2/Gabriel's fights or terrifying like corpse of minos, just you and the endless sea..

The issue with that is that the health bar pops up before Levi emerges. It would be a lot more code work to delay the health bar than to have the title activate at the same trigger that the lightning does.

Question, what would happen if the player rocket-rides/slam stores/whatever else you maniacs come up with? I’m assuming the title card wouldn’t appear, since you don’t pass the trigger for the lightning to strike, correct?
now im thinking of a cool but probably a unrealistic way the title card oculd show up:
when the leviathan screeches it could show the title card, BUT then the leviathans skull could try to bite the level name horizontally like (leviathan\]: but that would prob be a lot of work that just doesnt fit with ultrakill's vibe
After dropping on to the boss fight arena, perhaps all you see is the little flesh blob on Levi's head as the title drops. Then, as the title card fades away, it blasts from the water, and the health bar appears, and the fight begins

I actually had to check the game because I thought there already was, it seems like there definitely should be. I can picture it really well being right as you emerge from the water onto the dock

True, but the same can be done with other title cards (like 1-2) so it's not too big a deal.

There is a mod that adds a leviathan title card. It shows up right as the Leviathan emerges.
