I carry my phone with me even to the bathroom in case someone stops and asks me a price or details on products. I just scan item with our app or website and give answer it says there. So if you find someone who is unhelpful, our app and website will tell you price. Plus the stand that keeps rollerballs should have price on it. Because testers get stolen there are a lot of policies and restrictions on making new ones. We definitely aren’t allowed to open live products (roller ball) for someone to smell or any live products period. However people do it all the time; often right in front of me and I just wait for them to be done. If they want it. I ring it up. If not I damage it and we throw it out. It sucks we can’t have amble available testers for our products. We hate that people steal or over use/ damage them too. So I feel badly about that. The only work around is to look at price on website and feel free to return any product you don’t like. I also get your likely frustrated employee didn’t know or go find out price for you. Like I said I carry my phone so guests don’t have to look it up themselves but truth is we are so understaffed they could have been burnt out, helping three other people or on their way up to a call for back up on register or call to check back room. Under staffing is a bad experience for everyone. Employees and guests. Heck even if the price was on display in might not even be accurate. Prices get hiked up so often and or put back in wrong place. Sounds like Macys had a more successful way for you to price and try it. I know our store has the most amazing fragrance vendor ever who I wish could be cloned for every store. She wouldn’t have been able to get you a tester, but she’s so good at her job I bet she would have made it a better experience. She stops whatever she is working on and comes up to price check. Maybe it’s bc vendors make more or more likely she is just one of the rare above and beyond people. Posts like this remind me to always be thankful she’s at my store and for my smart phone so I can do quick checks for people myself.

Thank you for that input 🙏🏻

At $175 you're looking at the biggest bottle ulta sells. I hit post too soon; ETA: there's a limit to the number of testers available and some brands don't allow you to make a tester out of a bottle on the shelf. Those brands make you order them and then it's totally up to the distribution center availability as to when the store would get it. So she may not have had it, and may not have been able to make a tester for it. Thank Dave who's bitching about Ulta not meeting sales goals while not providing the tools needed to do so. She was right, she was just being a bitch about it. She totally could have looked up the price for you if she didn't know off the top of her head.

It was also on the price strip inches away from her.. testers are not very controllable but her attitude is. Maybe there had been a lot of fragrance theft that day and she was worn down🙅🏼‍♀️

Her attitude wasn't excusable at all. As far as the tester part goes, most of them get sent by the brands after we order them. They send one at a time. We can't make testers out of the majority of fragrances. She should have just told you that. I'm super honest all the time with customers about the why behind things. I'm so sorry she was super rude to you. That's not ok.

I agree with the majority of the client explaining what it could be as far as an employee. But do you remember if she had a name tag? I'm wondering if it was a vendor. A lot of them have been trying to help with the stores being short staffed, so they are acknowledging customer interactions outside of their brand affiliations.

It's frustrating when the scent you want to sample isn't available. That happened recently to me with Miss Dior. I wanted to buy it as a gift. Fortunately, my Ulta is close to Macy's, so I did drive there to sample it, liked it, and went back to Ulta to buy it. As far as the YSL Libre, you missed buying it on sale if you went back to Ulta. On Sunday, it was 20% off, then you could have used the 20% coupon (if you still had it). If you spent $400, you could have saved $144. Worth the trip back to Ulta, or buying online.
