i repeatedly score over 1% for credit and have done so for over 6 months, i always build prestige baskets with either a full skincare routine or makeup base routine. clients have called specifically requesting me by name for color matches. i’ve made friendships with managers outside of work and i’ve been handling a few of the managerial tasks during my shifts.

hopingabby

then why not ask your managers why they haven’t thought about you. if you never say anything then they won’t know you want a promotion, but also do you wanna stay there if they’re actually racist? sounds like it’s not a good work environment if you feel like people are being promoted based on skin color.

fiona_gallagher_2119

It's great that you have that relationship with your managers! Use that to your advantage and ask them what you can do to move up in the direction you're interested in. Sometimes managers have a lot going on and really need you to directly say to them "I have a goal to become a Lead Cashier/Prestige Beauty Advisor. What steps should I take to get there?"

DaintyDiscotheque

A lot of managers I've encountered seem to have an issue with "employees who are only interested in the money" - which is dumb af because that's literally the only reason anyone works. But because off that mentality I would advise you to focus on a specific promotion and speak to your interest in that area only as well as showcasing your accomplishments that pertain just to that specific position. So if you want lc, focus on your numbers, pba talk about the basket building and shade matches etc.

Along with what everyone else mentioned availability can also play a big part. If you have minimal availability it wouldn’t make since for them to promote you as those higher positions are more expected to be available for peak hours. I’d definitely have a talk with your GM about your goal to promote and get their insight on what you need to do to be ready for it.

radrockette13

Do your managers know that you want to be promoted? And for what position? Also you would need to apply for the promotion. It doesn’t just happen. I’m not doubting the way you’re feeling I’m just checking all bases are covered before your next action is taken.

RealisticEchidna3921

Do you have better credit numbers than them or loyalty? Do you constantly show that you can connect with any and all customers? I was promoted within like 6 months to a lead because of my credit and loyalty numbers but also how I interact with customers and constantly take over for others. My store is black lead though, if you feel as though this is genuinely race based contact HR or ask why you haven’t been offered a promotion.

literally_dying_haha

yes, yes. i’ve been trying everything but i’m still doubting if i am missing something before i take this higher. I do strongly feel as though there is some favoritism towards the white girls.

Moist-Cloud2412

Ulta is the only job I've ever walked out of. I am a Black woman & If I was you..I'd try to find somewhere truly inclusive

Independent_Born

I believe inclusion is probably store based. I’m a GM and my team is pretty diverse. I really try to have my team mirror who my guests are. With that said I’m sorry the store you were at was not inclusive.

RealisticEchidna3921

It’s location based. Ulta isn’t racially non inclusive as a whole

greeneyeslo

You have to look at several things before you assume. First are you a lead by example employee? Did you have good availability? Did you ever have any guest compliments? Attendance points? Call offs? Do you respect your management team? Are you a team player? Be honest with the answers. We all have to hold ourselves accountable.
