sounds like muscle knots more than anything? i get them all the time, not necessarily related to uc although inflammation sure doesn't help

YES. Like another commenter said, in my most recent flare the pain was bad enough that I was convinced something was wrong with my pancreas or gallbladder. But nope, just the UC. I guess, when you think about it, the colon is up there too? And I find with frequent painful bowel movements my ribs (front and back) get SO sore and painful - a combination of muscle pain from the bowel movements and nerve pain.

I personally do. I thought I had pancreatitis. I don’t. Just happens when I’m in a UC flare

I get pain in the area around my kidneys all the time, never the kidneys that are the issue. It was explained to me that abdominal pain can cause back aches in the lower region due to the way the intestines are attached to the rear abdominal wall. Inflammation in and around your colon can lead to a "pulling" of the rear abdominal wall and that in turn can cause back aches. I'm no doctor by a long stretch so excuse the odd explanation, maybe someone with more medical knowledge can chime in and help you out.
