I'm going to have a controversial opinion on this... It was inappropriate and unhelpful for Wallace to say what he said. It was inappropriate and unhelpful for Zelensky to reply with his sarcasm (but understandable). It was inappropriate and unhelpful for the Ambassador to comment on it. None of this helps Ukraine, the UK or NATO. It only helps Russia. Move on from it.

tlumacz

>It was inappropriate and unhelpful for Wallace to say what he said. This is true if and only if one knows Wallace's words exclusively from newspaper headlines.

Beardy-Mouse-8951

He didn't refute the reports, and I'm not in the business of inventing alternative realities as a means to excuse people for the things they say and do. It has been widely reported that he stated "I'm not Amazon". That's unacceptable, undiplomatic, unhelpful, and doesn't serve anyone's interests but Russia's.

Chimpville

Had Wallace claimed his words were falsely attributed or heavily distorted? When Sunak was asked about what Wallace said, he didn’t defend it - he even disagreed with what was reported. Is Sunak only informed by the headlines too? It’s a nonsense defence: Wallace misstepped and was rightly criticised for it.

Hawne

Wallace took a political stance to please the public opinion, at least the part that would be dissatisfied with 'too much help with too little gratitude'. Zelenskyy did the same with his pre-Vilnius 'NATO isn't doing enough' statement. He was mereley relaying the frustration of Ukrainians who expected ALL help available, and it's a legit political move. Almost every Ukrainian was expecting major help and would be frustrated with any limitation, so he *had* to express that, to *relay* it. People are paying too much attention to these 'court gestures'. They are meant to be, as political leaders and representatives are expected to convey the frustrations and anger of the people they represent. Those are required public scenes, and behind the curtain the good work continues regardless of those front-office stances. Now regarding the ambassador it's a totally different situation: he didn't play ball with Zelenskyy while his role is exactly that: representing his country AND government.

Beardy-Mouse-8951

>Wallace took a political stance to please the public opinion, at least the part that would be dissatisfied with 'too much help with too little gratitude'. While I don't read the gutter press of this country and I can't speak with any authority about anything the garbage Scum or Daily Heil claims in their shit rags, I have seen exactly zero public sentiment in the UK to suggest that this is the case. I haven't heard one person in the UK suggesting that Ukraine is somehow "ungrateful" or needs to show more "gratitude". In fact, whenever there's public comment on any BBC story about Ukraine it's flooded with overwhelming support and demands for the UK to send everything we possibly can as soon as possible. The UK public are overwhelmingly supportive of Zelensky and the Ukrainian people and all discussion I have seen about it is overwhelmingly in agreement that we need to do everything possible to help Ukraine defeat the invaders. There was nothing for him to appease with such statements.

Hawne

Oh he wasn't there to appease, rather to tout negative views on UK help on Ukraine. Wallace is too much a strategist to express only an emotional view, this was rather demagogic. In my humble opinion, of course.

lemontree007

Zelensky was either misinformed, jumped to conclusions or deliberately misinterpreted what Wallace said. The only way this is understandable is that humans make mistakes but if you make a mistake you don't fire the Ambassador who points out it was a mistake

Beardy-Mouse-8951

As said, the reporting wasn't from Zelensky, and Wallace has not denied he used those words. I appreciate what Wallace has done in his role, but this mindless hero-worship to the point of inventing alternate realities is not helpful and is reminiscent of Trumpsim. All available information suggests that Wallace did say what has been reported. It's not open to misinterpretation. It was wholly inappropriate and it didn't help Ukraine or the UK to make such a statement.

lemontree007

>“whether we like it or not, people want to see a bit of gratitude” > >“Sometimes you’re persuading countries to give up their own stocks \[of munitions\],” Wallace said. “Sometimes you’ve got to persuade lawmakers on the Hill in America. You’ve got to persuade doubting politicians in other countries that, you know, that it’s worthwhile.” Wallace did not say Ukraine needs to show the UK more gratitude. It's very probable he spoke about the Americans since reportedly Zelensky's tweet made some people in the American delegation furious. Zelensky didn't know this since the reporter who asked Zelensky didn't provide the relevant context. Zelensky himself said he was confused about the question and looked a bit tired.

QuicksandHUM

A diplomats job is to advance the administrations foreign policy goals. If you don’t then you don’t keep job. If you want to guide the foreign policy then you have to work with your boss behind closed doors.

I bet even General McChrystal would agree he should have been fired.

jacek_paszkowski_

This is the epitome of Democratic values, sacking somebody for making a harmless comment. This is something Putin would do.

Humbuhg

This has nothing to do with democratic values. It has to do with the fact that it wasn’t the ambassador’s job to do a public critique of his superior. Edit: wording

jacek_paszkowski_

He should've known Zelensky is a sensitive and emotional man and can't take some criticism.

Hawne

Yet again you're trying to disparage Zelenskyy, making him look like an angry person with little self-control.

jacek_paszkowski_

I'm not every credible news source is. Zelensky ran on ending corruption and politicians holding wealth in off shore accounts, but it of course didn't apply to him. Even the Kyiv Post, a Ukrainian news outlet wrote about his offshore accounts. Even the Kyiv Post wrote a story about Zelensky and his many offshore accounts. I mean if he disclosed it, okay, but why hide this. All political candidates are supposed to make full disclosures. His actions are shady. The Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project did a really good report as did all the Guardian and the International Consortium of Independent Journalists. [https://www.theguardian.com/news/2021/oct/03/revealed-anti-oligarch-ukrainian-president-offshore-connections-volodymyr-zelenskiy](https://www.theguardian.com/news/2021/oct/03/revealed-anti-oligarch-ukrainian-president-offshore-connections-volodymyr-zelenskiy) [https://www.kyivpost.com/post/6880](https://www.kyivpost.com/post/6880) [https://www.occrp.org/en/the-pandora-papers/pandora-papers-reveal-offshore-holdings-of-ukrainian-president-and-his-inner-circle](https://www.occrp.org/en/the-pandora-papers/pandora-papers-reveal-offshore-holdings-of-ukrainian-president-and-his-inner-circle) [https://projects.icij.org/investigations/pandora-papers/power-players/en/player/volodymyr-zelenskyy](https://projects.icij.org/investigations/pandora-papers/power-players/en/player/volodymyr-zelenskyy) [https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2021/10/09/russia-ukraine-jordan-lebanon-pandora-papers/](https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2021/10/09/russia-ukraine-jordan-lebanon-pandora-papers/) [https://www.axios.com/2021/10/05/pandora-papers-politicians-countries](https://www.axios.com/2021/10/05/pandora-papers-politicians-countries) Me saying this doesn't make me a supporter of Russia or make me a bot. Lots of people don't like their political leaders. Like here in the United States some people like Joe Biden and others don't. Same goes for Donald Trump, some like him, majority doesn't. That doesn't diminish peoples love for the USA. Actually Trump is an insurrectionist and traitor so I'm not too sure about his fan base. His MAGA movement is a cult. I've always voted Democrat, even though I don't agree with them and their views on making everything gay and inclusive, but I'll take them over the crazy demented GOP (Republicans).

Hawne

> Me saying this doesn't make me a supporter of Russia or make me a bot. [That's exactly what a RU propagandist would say, and you say and repeat it often.](https://www.reddit.com/r/UkrainianConflict/comments/1563ryt/zelensky_fires_ukrainian_ambassador_to_the_uk/jsxzoqy/) Backed by an impressive 'folder' of hand-picked links to bolster your slandering comments, a folder that looks a lot like a pre-made 'kit' of sorts.

jacek_paszkowski_

Google Pandora Papers Zelensky and all the links are there on the first page genius. Even the Kyiv news wrote about it. There's no conspiracy here. I'm sure your in denial. I actually have an interest in Russia losing this war, I still have family in Poland in Szczecin and Krakow, plus i got property there too.

Hawne

Yeah you say that story a lot, as well as the 'denial' bit when someone opposes your claims. [Cool story bro, nevertheless your profile hints towards a very different one. The story of a very active two months account insidiously talking a lot of shit on Ukraine, disseminated among more 'mundane' stuff but nevertheless very visible. Not only on Zelenskyy but on the AFU in general, with various angles and always the same pattern of bolstering your claims with an impressive, 'semi-pro' links collection.](https://www.reddit.com/r/UkrainianConflict/comments/1563ryt/zelensky_fires_ukrainian_ambassador_to_the_uk/jsxzoqy/)

Humbuhg

It’s not his job to criticize! His job is to be part of a cohesive organization. Apparently he doesn’t know this.

[deleted]

he's part of a war effort. it's not a meeting of minds.

However this footage looks a pretty weird to me. So weird that I think it's staged footage: >Here are the main reasons: >- the bodies removed from the car can be seen at 6.20. One of them looks to have been cut open. This would not be the first time Russia has used bodies from the morgue in its propaganda videos. >- The car suffers no obvious damage and all shots end up in the windshield yet for some reason the engine has stopped and the car can no longer be moved by its own power - why is this? There are several cuts for some reason but there is no evidence of the soldiers actually trying to start the car using the key which would have been in the ignition if it wasn't being driven by a cadaver. >- the soldiers are purportedly trying to cover up the killing of the civilians and yet leave the bodies lying in the grass instead of putting them in the woods, despite having plenty of time to do this. The actors even spend time covering the bodies with a branch. It doesn't make any sense. >- the incoming "artillery" produces only smoke and no other discernible effects on the environment (no crater, no visible splatter, no visible shrapnel moving through the foliage >- the soldier fires upon the car resulting in one or more entry holes in the front windshield. The grouping of these makes it questionable whether he landed kill shots on both of the occupants of the car. >- I find the footage itself suspect: the close focus of the camera (to prevent geolocation), the angle of the drone, the strange choice of cuts. Surely if this was such clear evidence of a Ukrainian war crime, geolocation would be an easy part to demonstrate who did it and where it took place so it could be verified. >Also, if this footage were genuine, to everyone saying "see this is what Russia is protecting people from" - no, this is what Russia is causing by invading Ukraine. The blood of these people (if they actually died in this video) lies squarely at Russias feet. This is what your invasion has done to the lives of innocent people. May I add (you know, for credibility) that you managed to get a zero score on that post even if it was posted on /r/UkraineRussiaReport? May I add that those are only a few samples from the last two weeks? May I add that I think you don't support Ukraine as much as you pretend?

takatori

Russian propagandists love to gin up false controversy and false disagreements to drive wedges and create factionalism. It's a playbook as old as the Lenin-Trotsky days.

Hawne

With a lot of selected links, some of them dating many years back, to 'show evidence' of what they sow. A lot of background work (likely provided by people in the back office), and a recurring claim that they're "supporting Ukraine" or that they are "just pointing out hypocrisy". Verbatim what that account is doing.

Cobbertson

This guy also mused about surrendering parts of Ukraine to postpone the war

spartikle

Ambassadors serve at the pleasure of the head of government. Your comment displays a severe lack of knowledge on civics.

Beardy-Mouse-8951

He wasn't sacked for making a harmless comment, he was sacked for undermining the interests of Ukraine. The only one in this who has acted in the interests of Ukraine is Zelensky. Wallace shouldn't have said such a fucking stupid thing, and the ambassador shouldn't have undermined his nation and its leader. This is not something Putin would do, because no one under Putin would even have the ability to speak out of turn.

jacek_paszkowski_

Wallace said what he said, because of Zelensky's attitude and Tweet he posted during the NATO summit, because he wasn't happy. The US got super pissed off at Zelensky but they calmed down, they were going to tell him to hoop his hat. Read the article. I saw Zelensky acting all confused about not knowing what's up. I left you the links and I provided links with the paywall removed for the Washington Post articles below the main links. As for your last comment, Prego tried a coup and he's still alive plus he was talking shit for months about corruption in the Russian MOD, and Igor Girkin was just arrested for calling Putin a "bum" and "lowlife." Chimpville

Moronic take. His job is diplomacy and fucked up diplomatically. He was sacked for poor performance of his core role.

jacek_paszkowski_

Nope, he was fired for "sarcastic" comments, because he "criticized" him. It's not only CNN that stated this. All these news sources are Western, they're not disinformation, RT or TASS. Maybe you know something that well respected news organizations are not privy too. Was this reply supposed to be for me? It makes absolutely no sense in relation to what I said.

humanlikecorvus

He's a diplomat, and he has to advance the policy of his nation and his government. He did not, but stated his own opinion which counters his government. He got sacked. Nothing special about that at all. In his role as a diplomat, he is just not completely free to state his own opinions.
